This is why I resist getting excited about any hot start for Gomez. Every year, he has a hot stretch at some point and people say, "Gomez really looks different this year."

Then eventually he goes back to looking like the same Gomez who is good for elite defense and pinch-running and not much else, and settles into the .288ish OBP that he's carrying right about now.

Vin Scully is really amazing at what he does. During a Hart at bat earlier in the game, Scully went from mentioning that Hart's father is known as one of the best softball players ever from the state of Kentucky, to mentioning that two years ago Hart got corrective contact lenses, to the fact that he has a four leaf clover tattoo with the initials of his children on the leaves and his wife in the middle, and that Corey also likes to collect comic books. All in one at bat.

When Axford came on, he mentioned that he is Dutch from his mother's side, and that his grandparents came over to Canada right before WWII.

It's amazing how he is able to come up with this stuff, on every single player.

Having the Extra Innings package I always make it a point to listen to Vin Scully when the Brewers play in LA. He truly is a legend.

Lucroy to DL. Boxer's fracture on right hand

Boxer's fracture is otherwise known as punching a wall fracture. I've known several people that have been diagnosed with that and it's been from punching a wall. Not saying that's what it is, but that type of fracture occurs when the last knuckle is pushed back - usually from the force of a punch. I doubt the suitcase did it but whatever..

I'm so glad I didn't know about Lucroy's hand with the suitcase that fell off the grassy knoll or whatever...I'm just glad I made it home safe. This injury train is unreal. I hope Tony Migs has Braun secured in bubble wrap.

Had a great time at the park tonight. Got to text with sdcheezhd but was too busy making sure my kids didn't spill ice cream on the people around us to run into him. While the crowds still aren't where they were, there is definitely a better vibe at the game surrounding the Dodgers now that the ownership team is in place and they are winning. I was wondering what the night was going to be like when one of the Dodger vendors started giving a guy in a Braun shirt in front of me the business about the "steroids" as we were walking into the stadium. After that I didn't hear much. He got a fair amount of boos and a few steroid comments. My buddy turned around to one guy who yelled steroids and said, get it right, it was synthetic testosterone. Everyone got a laugh out of that. They had a chant out in left in the first, but nothing worse than Fielder got the last few years out here. Everyone around us couldn't have been nicer. Most Dodgers fans feel like crap that their stadium has gotten a reputation normally reserved for Raiders games and go out of their way to make up for it.

Marcum looked good tonight and ARam had quite the game. Weeks even shows some signs of getting better, although that last strikeout was ugly. Kottaras and his noodle arm behind home plate are going to give up a ton of steals. Between KRod and his leg kick and Kottaras, pudgy old Bobby Abreu had one of the slowest steals I've ever seen. The throw from the knees earlier was pretty ugly too.

Ax was hitting 100 on the gun at the end, although sdcheezhd and Uecker are skeptical. I'm so desperate for good news, I'm choosing to believe he was hitting it.

A win is a win...they keep trying which is great. Will be fun to see Fiers tomorrow night.

Pitch f/x had two at 100.

I was there with a long-time Dodger fan who joined the boos during Braun's first AB so I gave him the key pro-Braun talking points from the 50 page thread (thx pe, xis and others) and flipped him around pretty quickly. He's Jewish so he has that incentive to be on Ryan's side. For the rest of the game he clapped for him, although it was pretty much the Orson Welles clap. He was shocked that mlb fired Das after he ruled against them for the 1st time out of 13. Not even a pretense of fairness. Only 2 other Brewer fans in sight to counteract the boos, which for the most part didn't seem to have much emotion behind them. I was surprised that with so many ex-pats in the area there weren't more of us showing the flag (there have been lots at Petco lately) but the 4 straight games probably dilutes it. Socal says the UW Club is coming Wednesday.

A couple things to add to Socal's report: Loney drew a big walk in the 6th; after watching the pitch go by he took a step towards the dugout so apparently even he thought it was strike; Marcum did a great job getting out of the inning and then dominating the 7th. K-Rod looked pretty good in the 8th, jcredit to 2 good ABs by Abreu and JHJ although he did go to sleep on Abreu's lead. Ax got 2 big assists from Ransom. Dodger Stadium is nice and retro and all but they never give you any information. You have to wait a while for the out of town scores; when a new pitcher comes in they show a bunch of other stuff before telling you who he is, etc. Also, the wave in the 5th inning of 1-1 tie? Poor form. And since I'm being skeptical, I'm skeptical of the suitcase story too.

So just 1 more win to win the season series. Bring em home Socal.

What number will be higher at the end of the season: Weeks strike out total or his batting average?

I started laughing when I read this, but honestly, that is a pretty good question. He'd have to hit under the Mendoza line for there to be a chance.

I think he is going to turn it around at some point though. He'll be forced to.
