User Driven Power 50 (June 2012) -> Results are up in post #34

Slightly off-topic but does anyone know what happened with D'Vo? There's no news about him moving on from baseball yet he hasn't played this year. Funny that we get that piece on DoU about him and then he doesn't even play baseball again.

I'll try to post results on Thursday night. I'm out for the weekend and things seem to be slowing a bit.

Sadly, work has been so hectic lately, I'm not going to get a chance to post my own...

Biggest gaps occurred between Jed Bradley -> Scooter Gennett (108 points) and Jorge Lopez->Yadiel Rivera (103 points).

Jimmie Nelson, Taylor Jungmann, Wily Peralta, and Jed Bradley were all very tightly scored: 664 points (Nelson) to 648 points (Bradley). Compare that to Thornburg at 697 and Gennett at 540. (Or Mike Walker at 35).

The progression and improvement of Jimmy Nelson has been a wonderful thing to witness. I wasn't a fan of the draft pick when it was made, but man, has he really come on since the middle or so of last year.

The only two guys who I think should be shooting up that list are Gian Rizzo and Hiram Burgos. I personally think that both should probably be sitting in the Top 20 at this point. Look out for Juan Ortiz in the DSL too...

This is very cool to see the results. Yaddy Rivera does not sniff my top-10. Plus, how the heck does Hunter Morris not crack the top-10?

So, let's do another after the draft pick signing/trade deadline?

It is good to see Morris doing well in AA. I'm interested to see if they bump him to AAA this year.

1 Tyler Thornburg

2 Jimmie Nelson

3 Taylor Jungmann

4 Wily Peralta

5 Jed Bradley

...and this shows why we spent our top picks on hitters this year.

Well, when the Brewers draft a guy and the closest MLB comp is "Jeff Suppan," who in the hell IS going to like that pick! You're talking about the worst signing in Brewers history(with Jeffery Hammonds a close second IMO, but at least we weren't trying to win then).

Now that Nelson is hitting 98 and can throw 93-94 with some regularity, is a GB pitcher with the org's best slider, I'm not quite sure how he was ever compared to Suppan.

I wish I knew more about some of the DSL guys. I see only Rizzo's results, but don't really have a feeling for his stuff. Is he a guy with a 98 MPH fastball, or a guy who throws 90-91 with average secondary stuff, but knows how to pitch?

I'd have to think if his stuff was THAT good that after last year he'd be stateside, but that's obviously a flawed theory. Who knows what the reason is. Maybe he'll be pitching for AZ in rookie ball.

A Burgos type pitcher if you will. Though I agree with you, his emergence this year has been extraordinary.

Though clearly just as Thornburg was the best thing about our farm system last year, seeing him develop into a potential future top 3 on a playoff caliber team, Nelson is the same for this years team.

And while he was drafted a year earlier, I thought he was only 6 months older than Jungman and younger than Thornburg by about a year. Though Bradley's the youngest of the group.

Not to mention, despite his struggles, Peralta is right in the middle of those guys in terms of age despite this being his second sting in AAA.

Edit-I also think it'd be fun to do a post-draft ranking. Totally useless as we've got so little to go off of, but it'd be interesting. Maybe after rookie ball to give us some type of idea of who should go where. Not to put too much stock into the rookie league results, but better than nothing.

I like Hunter, but for a guy who can really only play 1st, and doesn't walk that much, I think he needs to bring that slugging up quite a bit in order to truly become a top 10 prospect for most people.

It would be nice to see him in AAA this year.

I would be more curious how Rivera doesn't "sniff," your top 10 than why you think it outrageous that Morris isn't in it? I'll take a young, projectable SS with a much higher ceiling over a player who's more developed with a more certain floor, but far less of a ceiling.

I guess it all goes back to how you evaluate prospects. Does a .300 hitter with a little bit of pop who hasn't draw walks at a very high clip until this year and is limited to 1st base deserve to be ranked higher than a raw player with a far less chance of making it to the big leagues, but a far high chance of making a impact.

I go with the latter.

I think I had Yaddy at 19. I still really like his potential, but he has a very long way to go with the bat. He is approaching 1000 career PA's and his OPS sits at .611. The clear top SS prospect in the system is Orlando Arcia and I think the Brewers know it. Now, let's sign Angel Ortega, get Carlos Belonis' bat cooking and try Chris McFarland at SS. Then we just might have five of the more exciting SS prospects aged 20 and under in all of baseball.

As for Morris, the thing I always go back to was an early season Jimmy Nelson interview when Nelson was asked to name the one hitter in the Brewers system who will be a sure-fire major league hitter. He quickly answered, "Hunter Morris". Now look at Hunter's numbers. See how they are trending up as he moves up the ladder? To me, that is a really good sign he will mature properly as a hitter. His SLG is a few ticks below .500. He is on pace to roughly double his BB total form last season. The power is real as he did set a BC Manatee HR record last season and currently is among SL leaders in hits, 2B, XBH and TB. Morris is pretty dang good with the glove too.

After looking at it even closer, I am more than satisfied where I placed both players.

Morris' 18HRs didn't impress me as much as Khris Davis' 17 HR in half the games...

Granted, Morris has looked pretty decent this year. A tick better on the plate discipline also.

As for the next one, I'll plan on one for mid-August. Then we can have a wrap-up version after the AFL.
