Once again this season, Brevard does not have its own audio coverage. It appears two teams in the Manatees North Division (within which the majority of games are played) have audio, and all six teams in the South Division have audio (at least for their home games), so there will be opportunities to listen to approx. 70% or Brevard's games this season, just all from the opponent's perspective. There are no Florida State League games on MiLB.TV this year.

Wisconsin: LHP Will West at Peoria (Cubs), 1:40 PM pre-game, 2:00 gametime

Chris Mehring is back to do his customary fantastic work as the Voice of the Rattlers. Follow him on Twitter @CMehring; we'll link to Chris' infamous blog often -- Rattler Radio.

MiLB.TV -- for subscribers; Wisconsin is one of only two (Great Lakes) Midwest League clubs that have all their home games available via MiLB.TV; Chris' call provides the audio. So for the $39.95 season-long package, fans in Brewer Nation can watch all Sounds games, all Timber Rattlers home games, and 24 Stars' road games (one Helena series this summer, too).

Please note the following from the Rattler Radio Blog:

If you listen to the Timber Rattlers on the internet feed see below information for IMPORTANT NEWS!!

There have been issues with the internet feed the last few nights and the station engineer gave me the story and a few tips on how to listen to the games.

The story: The station has moved to a new provider for the internet feed. The new provider is supposed to be able to automatically take out the commercials and go back into programming. There have been a few problems with that on their end, but here are the fixes he suggested.

#1: There is a new link or try the Main WNAM page and click on the big LISTEN LIVE button at the top.

#2: Download the Silverlight and Adobe Flash programs and start running them on your computer.

#3*: Be Patient. If you go to the link and there is dead air, hang with it the programming should come back on.

#4**: Test it out before the game.

*-This is the most important one. My blood pressure started to go up after I was at the new link and heard nothing for 45 WHOLE SECONDS! The NERVE!

**-This one is mine…but it makes sense.

If you are in the listening area, feel free to tune in on AM1280, WNAM.

__________

We'll post this one more day (Memorial Day), the link in the Daily Menu matches the link Chris suggests.

The Dunedin broadcast was awful with reverb when I tried it earlier; when I checked back in, it was crystal clear and the bottom of the 4th was just beginning, with the Sea Cows clinging to a 3-2 lead. So much for that.

Jungmann allowed the first seven batters to reach to begin the inning before being yanked with the bases loaded in favor of Eric Marzec, who promptly allowed a grand slam on his first pitch. 9 R, 10 H, 3 BB for Jungmann. Ye gods.

After Greinke's performance last night, I'm done listening to this game, I think, but I will write it up later.

Final: @Dunedin 12, Brevard County 5

Manatees swept by Blue Jays

By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees

DUNEDIN, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees dropped their third game in the row and were swept by the Dunedin Blue Jays after losing 12-5 on Sunday afternoon at Florida Auto Exchange Park. Brevard is now 1-8 against the North Division leading Blue Jays this season.

Manatees starting pitcher and 2011 first round draft pick Taylor Jungmann (3-4, 4.02) had the shortest start of his professional career as he went just three plus innings and allowed nine runs (all earned). He allowed ten hits, while walking three and striking out three.

Brevard (19-29) had a 3-2 lead heading into the fourth, thanks to a two-run double by Nick Shaw and a RBI single by Shea Vucinich in the third inning. That lead would be short lived as Dunedin (33-17) plated eight runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Jungmann faced seven batters in the inning and did not record an out as he allowed four runs on five hits and a walk before departing the game with the bases loaded.

Eric Marzec came in to try and clean up the mess but it got even worse as he allowed a grand slam on his second pitch of the afternoon to John Talley as Dunedin took a 10-3 lead. Seven of the eight runs in the inning were charged to Jungmann.

Nine-time All-Star and 2004 AL MVP Vladimir Guerrero was 2-for-5 with a home run off of Stosh Wawrzasek in the eighth inning for Dunedin. It was Guerrero's first game since signing a minor league contract with the Blue Jays on May 10.

Offensively, the Manatees recorded ten hits as Cody Hawn and Parker Berberet had two each. Since joining Brevard County from Class-A Wisconsin, Berberet has four hits in his first three games with the 'Tees.

After an off day on Monday, the 'Tees will be back home on Tuesday for a doubleheader against the Daytona Cubs (19-28). The twin bill will be the first two games in a four-game set between the two rivals.

For Brevard County, Jimmy Nelson (3-4, 2.13) will take the hill for the first game while the Manatees' starter for the second game has yet to be determined. Nelson is 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA in two starts against the Cubs this season.

Daytona will send P.J. Francescon (0-0, 1.50) to the mound for game one, while Hayden Simpson (1-3, 6.96) will toe the rubber for the Cubs in game two.

Brevard County box score

Taylor Jungmann also had a great 2011. I detailed his, uh, exploits above; I got one thing wrong though--Marzec gave up the grand slam on his second pitch. Ah, much better. Jungmann was 91-92 with his fastball per the D-Jays broadcast.

TJ Mittelstaedt went deep for the 'Tees for the fifth time this year.

I learned that I've been saying Marcus Knecht's name wrong--it's like the Xbox Kinect, rather than having a silent K.

Brevard County play-by-play

Dunedin Bottom of the 2nd

  • Marcus Knecht strikes out swinging.
  • Ryan Schimpf walks.
  • Kevin Ahrens called out on strikes.
  • Jack Murphy doubles (5) on a line drive to center fielder Reggie Keen. Ryan Schimpf scores.
  • Jonathan Jones singles on a line drive to right fielder Franklin Romero Jr. Jack Murphy out at home on the throw, right fielder Franklin Romero Jr. to catcher Parker Berberet.

According to the Dunedin broadcaster, it took a great throw from Franklin Romero and a great catch/tag from Berberet to get Murphy at home.

Dunedin Bottom of the 4th

  • Ryan Schimpf walks.
  • Kevin Ahrens singles on a line drive to right fielder Franklin Romero Jr. Ryan Schimpf to 2nd.
  • Jack Murphy walks. Ryan Schimpf to 3rd. Kevin Ahrens to 2nd.
  • Jonathan Jones doubles (3) on a line drive to left fielder Scott Krieger. Ryan Schimpf scores. Kevin Ahrens scores.
  • Jack Murphy scores.
  • Gabe Jacobo singles on a line drive to center fielder Reggie Keen. Jonathan Jones scores.
  • Vladimir Guerrero singles on a ground ball to left fielder Scott Krieger. Gabe Jacobo to 2nd.
  • Kevin Nolan singles on a line drive to left fielder Scott Krieger. Gabe Jacobo to 3rd. Vladimir Guerrero to 2nd.
  • Pitcher Change: Eric Marzec replaces Taylor Jungmann.
  • Jon Talley hits a grand slam (3) to right field. Gabe Jacobo scores. Vladimir Guerrero scores. Kevin Nolan scores.
  • Marcus Knecht singles on a line drive to left fielder Scott Krieger.
  • Ryan Schimpf flies out to left fielder Scott Krieger.
  • Kevin Ahrens grounds into double play, third baseman T. J. Mittelstaedt to second baseman Shea Vucinich to first
  • baseman Mike Walker. Marcus Knecht out at 2nd.

Jungmann was struggling with his fastball command, and after two of the first three batters worked walks out of protracted plate appearances, Jones smelled blood in the water and hammered Jungmann's get-me-over first offering.

Final: Round Rock 19, @Nashville 3

Sounds Fall 19-3 To Round Rock On Sunday Afternoon

Nashville Sounds

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds snapped a four-game winning streak while entering the record books in the wrong way on Sunday afternoon, setting the highest single-game hit total allowed in franchise history in a 19-3 loss to the Round Rock Express at Greer Stadium.

The 19 Round Rock runs marked the fourth overall time an opponent has produced that output against Nashville (20-29) in the Sounds' 35-year history and the first time since the Las Vegas 51s plated 19 on August 10, 2010.

The 24 hits allowed surpassed the 22 hits by Albuquerque last season on June 12, 2011 at Isotopes Park.

The 19 Round Rock runs and 24 hits also were both franchise records for the Express in their seven-year history.

It was the second-largest margin of defeat for Nashville since joining the PCL in 1998. The Sounds had an 18-1 loss to the Memphis Redbirds on July 30, 2000 at Greer Stadium.

Every batter in the Express lineup had at least one hit a hit as Round Rock batted around three times on the afternoon. Michael Bianucci (3-for-5) fell a triple short of the cycle while Matt Kata (4-for-6) and Ryan Spilborghs (4-for-5) each had four hits.

Round Rock starter Michael Kirkman (4-1) earned his fourth straight win with his second quality start of the season. The 25-year-old lefty gave up one run on three hits while striking out six in six innings.

Nashville starter Wily Peralta (1-6) struggled again from the mound in his fourth consecutive loss. The 23-year-old surrendered eight runs (six earned) on nine hits in 1 2/3 innings, the shortest Triple-A start of his career and b a Sounds starter in 2012. The right-hander has now recorded a 16.88 ERA (20er/10.2ip) in his last three starts.

Designated hitter Jordan Brown (six games) and second baseman Eric Farris (seven games) each had two hits to extend their respective season-high hitting streaks. Left-fielder Corey Patterson also had two hits while driving in two runs.

Round Rock batted around and opened the contest with four runs in the opening frame against right-hander Peralta. Former sound Brad Nelson brought home the first two the first two runs scored on based-loaded single. In the ensuing at-bat, Joey Butler added the next run on an RBI single to center. The final run of the inning was scored on a Bianucci infield groundout.

The Express duplicated their previous inning by batting around again for four more runs thanks to back-to-back jacks by Nelson and Butler over the right field wall. Both homers came with two outs and followed a questionable third strike call that was ruled a ball for a walk.

Spilborghs singled home Yangervis Solarte in the third for a 9-0 deficit. Three consecutive hits from Round Rock opened the fifth frame, highlighted by a Luis Hernandez RBI single.

The Sounds broke the shutout in the bottom of the sixth. Center fielder Logan Schafer worked an inning-opening walk, advanced to third on a single from Patterson, and scored on an Andy Gonzalez sacrifice fly.

Round Rock batted around again for nine runs in the eighth inning, beginning with a three-run homer by Bianucci. Nelson, Butler, and Kata followed with RBI singles before Bianucci brought home another run on a base-loaded walk. Martinez ended the rally with a sacrifice fly.

Nashville loaded the bases and plated two late runs in the bottom of the ninth with a two-run single from Patterson.

In relief of Peralta, Donovan Hand gave up just one run on four hits in 3 1/3 innings. Amaury Rivas allowed three runs on four hits in two innings. Johnnie Lowe was touched for six runs (four earned) on five hits in one inning. Victor Garate finished the game with perfect frame.

The Sounds and Express will play the finale of a four-game set at 2:00pm CT on Memorial Day afternoon at Greer Stadium. Right-hander Claudio Vargas (0-0, 5.40) will make his first home start and will face former Sounds southpaw Zach Jackson (1-5, 4.97).

How can Peralta go from being dominant last year to horrible a year later?

Haudricourt asked a similar question on Twitter, and Jeff Hem responded: "You're probably asking rhetorically, but mainly falling behind in counts and fastball command." Some of it might also be mental: "today he had a 3-2 pitch w/ 2 outs in 2nd that was close to a K. Instead a BB, followed by 3R-HR and solo shot."

Schafer's walk was his 13th of the year in 212 plate appearances. Caleb Gindl was 0-4 with two strikeouts to drop his line to a sub-Weeksian .192/.249/.321; MH pointed out the other day how poorly Martin Maldonado's season is going, and rightly so, but Gindl is making him look good.

I pointed out earlier that his walk rate was the main change from last year. And unfortunately, of Peralta's career results (for walks), last year was the outlier.

Final: Wisconsin 3, Peoria 2

Rivera's ninth inning homer stuns Peoria

Rattlers rally to beat Chiefs 3-2

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

PEORIA, IL - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were 0-12 in games that they trailed after eight innings. Yadiel Rivera made sure that record didn't reach 0-13. The Milwaukee Brewers shortstop prospect hit a long, two-run homer with one out in the top of the ninth inning on Sunday at Peoria Chiefs Stadium to turn a 2-1 Chiefs lead into a 3-2 Timber Rattlers victory. Jacob Barnes tossed solid relief to keep the Rattlers within striking distance and Seth Harvey picked up save number ten as Wisconsin reached 14 games over .500 with the comeback win.

The teams traded runs in the early innings. Peoria (22-28) scored first.

Zeke DeVoss started the Chiefs half of the third inning with a double. Taiwan Easterling followed with a triple to right-center to score DeVoss. Peoria was primed for a bigger inning, but Rattlers pitcher Will West struck out the next two batters and left Easterling stranded at third by getting the final out on a groundball.

Wisconsin (32-18) responded in the top of the fourth. Greg Hopkins doubled to left-center with one out and took third on an error. Cameron Garfield singled through the drawn-in infield to get Hopkins home with the tying run.

Easterling would double to start the Peoria fifth inning. He scored the run that put the Chiefs up 2-1 on a one out single by Ryan Cuneo.

Barnes relieved West after the single by Cuneo and got a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning. Barnes would toss 3-2/3 scoreless innings in relief, allow one hit, and strike out three to keep the Rattlers down a run.

Wisconsin had an opportunity to at least tie the game in the top of the eighth inning. Chadwin Stang reached on an error and Brandon Macias was hit by a pitch to start the inning. But, Jason Rogers grounded into a double play and a fly ball of the bat of Greg Hopkins was run down at the wall to keep Peoria up 2-1.

Yao-Lin Wang took over for Peoria in the bottom of the ninth inning and struck out the first batter of the inning. Max Walla was next and he lined single to left. The base hit by Walla extended his hitting streak to seven games and brought Rivera to the plate.

Wang missed with the first pitch to the Rattlers shortstop. His next pitch was right in Rivera's wheelhouse. Rivera hit a deep, towering drive to left that went out of the stadium, hit in the middle of the street, and came to rest just short of a building across the street. The two-run blast was the sixth homer of the season for Rivera and it put the Rattlers up 3-2.

Harvey, Wisconsin's closer, entered the game in the bottom of the ninth inning and set down the Chiefs in order to collect his tenth save of the season.

Game three of the series between the Timber Rattlers and Chiefs in a Memorial Day matinee. Wisconsin has Matt Miller (3-4, 4.24) as their scheduled starting pitcher. Peoria have Jose Rosario (3-5, 5.65) as their scheduled starter. Game time is 2:00pm at Peoria Chiefs Stadium. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 1:40pm.

How can Peralta go from being dominant last year to horrible a year later?

We are going to need to rebuild and it sure doesn't look like we have the pieces in place in the minors to do it.

WOW....knee jerk much?

Peralta's struggled in three starts.

Jungman's struggled in one and at this point of the season, his ERA after allowing 9 ER's..in how many innings pitched is still 4.02.

And we all know that if you have 7-8 high ceiling arms, not ONLY are they all going to struggle at times, but some of them will never do anything in the big leagues.

And when a guy throws in the upper 90's and can sit in the low to mid 90's, get GB's and get K's, it can sometimes be just a mechanical adjustment.

It can also be an injury. Serious, minor...I don't know.

But I find it ridiculous to throw up your arms after getting two bad starts and say, "well, there goes our future through the farm!"

Peralta's 22 years old. Jungman is 22 years old. Peralta's concern is obviously more pressing, but still...

Just would like to see steady progress from Peralta. Clearly he has taken a couple of steps back this year. Is he hurt? I haven't seen anything to suggest he is.

Jungman won't be ready next year and to be honest I wasn't all that high on him after watching him pitch in the college World series last year. His stuff looked average to me.

Obviously he can improve and I could turn out to be wrong.

All I'm saying is we are in all liklihood going to need to replace 3 if not 4 starters next season. I was hoping that Peralta, Thornburg, and maybe Fiers could be in the mix.

Maybe they still will be but other then TT none of them are having the kind of season that gives you much hope that they are part of the solution for 2013.
