Thursday's Daily Menu:

All times are Central

Nashville: RHP Mike Fiers at Las Vegas (Blue Jays), 8:50 PM pre-game, 9:05 gametime

Free Live Audio Link

Jeff Hem is the new play-by-play voice of the Sounds; follow him on Twitter @jeffhempbp; we'll link to his blog updates at On the Air…and Off

MiLB.TV -- for subscribers; all Nashville games, home and away, will be available to watch via MiLB.TV's $39.99 season-long package ($9.99 to pay for a single month). We imagine the audio feed is from the home team. All MiLB.TV details available at the link.

**********

Huntsville: RHP Tyler Thornburg at home vs. Birmingham (White Sox), 6:28 PM pre-game, 6:43 gametime

Free Live Audio Link -- Select the Huntsville feed from the MiLB main audio page

I-Phone friendly audio link

Alex Cohen is the new play-by-play voice of the Stars; follow him on Twitter @alexmcohen. It's fantastic that Huntsville is returning to what will be a traditional broadcast format this year. All games, home and away, are scheduled to be broadcast.

MiLB.TV subsciption note: A total of 24 Stars' games (in Jacksonville and Tennessee) will be broadcast.

**********

Brevard County: RHP Brandon Williamson at Charlotte (Rays), 5:30 PM gametime

Free Live Audio Link -- Select the Charlotte feed from the MiLB main audio page

Once again this season, Brevard does not have its own audio coverage. It appears two teams in the Manatees North Division (within which the majority of games are played) have audio, and all six teams in the South Division have audio (at least for their home games), so there will be opportunities to listen to approx. 70% or Brevard's games this season, just all from the opponent's perspective. There are no Florida State League games on MiLB.TV this year.

***

Wisconsin: RHP Drew Gagnon at Quad Cities (Cardinals), 6:40 PM pre-game, 7:00 gametime

Free Live Audio Link - 1280 AM WNAM

Chris Mehring is back to do his customary fantastic work as the Voice of the Rattlers. Follow him on Twitter @CMehring; we'll link to Chris' infamous blog often -- Rattler Radio.

MiLB.TV -- for subscribers; Wisconsin is one of only two (Great Lakes) Midwest League clubs that have all their home games available via MiLB.TV; Chris' call provides the audio. So for the $39.95 season-long package, fans in Brewer Nation can watch all Sounds games, all Timber Rattlers home games, and 24 Stars' road games (one Helena series this summer, too).

Just a huge night for Mike Fiers tonight. If he pitches well, he lines up on normal rest for Tuesday's start in Los Angeles for Marco Estrada.

We'll be listening late tonight, Jeff!

(After sampling the earlier games as well, Chris & Alex...)

Nick Ramirez tweets that catcher Cameron Garfield, the 2009 2nd round pick who missed most of 2011 with a dislocated patella in his left knee, will be joining the Timber Rattlers, probably as soon as Friday. We'll add it to the transaction thread once official.

The T-Rats get even more talented. Nice to see, especially after the 2011 version.

I'm thinking next week will be time to make my first visit to Fox Cities Stadium this season. This team is too good to not go see play.

Be careful, with the two-week road trip, you won't see them until June 6th the earliest...

Hey, maybe I meant I was going to go to FC Stad. & ask them to play the away game on the big screen!

I didn't, but maybe that's what I meant...

Can anyone connect to WNAM over the internet or is this some sort of weird Roadrunner problem I'm experiencing?

Via Jeff Hem:

Tonight’s interview is with Sounds reliever Donovan Hand, who discusses his relief win last night, the Brewers’ trade Thursday involving catcher Paul Phillips, the ballparks and cities of the PCL, pitching close to home (Alabama) and the “candy bag” that keeps the Sounds’ bullpen full during games…

I'm posting this almost two hours after the earlier posts, but the Wisconsin WNAM audio link is working now (5-5 game in the 5th). The problem you described earlier has been an issue off and on recently.

Chris always appreciates a tweet @CMehring or an email to RattlerRadio at TimberRattlers.com to give him a heads-up when you encounter a technical issue. He'll contact engineers to investigate and correct.

Thursday's game between the Charlotte Stone Crabs and Brevard County Manatees was cancelled due to inclement weather at Charlotte Sports Park.

***

The game will not be made up (last scheduled meeting in the first-half schedule).

The teams did play 3.5 scoreless innings.

Partial Box Score

Losing out is RHP Brandon Williamson, who allowed just one hit and no walks.

Benefiting is the 'Tees lineup, which was 0-for-11 with one walk and a caught stealing (T.J. Mittelstaedt). Nick Shaw also had his 10th error wiped out by the cancellation.

You'll see the recap later on, but the Stars hold on for a 4-3 win, when Birmingham tried to score not just one, but two, runs, on a Jesus Sanchez bases-loaded wild pitch in the 9th inning.

Can't get greedy, Barons -- man from 2nd out at home. Game over!

Alex Cohen with a nice call on the play, but the webcast signal was very weak, cranked up the PC volume all the way to just make it out.

Not a stellar night on the engineering broadcast side of things.

That being said, the Sounds broadcast is crystal clear but Mike Fiers was not:

With Adam Lind batting, Anthony Gose scores on a balk. Adeiny Hechavarria advances to 2nd on a balk. Adam Lind homers (3) on a fly ball to right field. Adeiny Hechavarria scores.

Travis d'Arnaud homers (8) on a fly ball to right field.

Reconsider not bringing up Tyler, Doug?

By the way, Brandon Kintzler has been spot-on. His rehab is over, it's just getting regular work in now.

Sorry for previewing the normally scheduled write-ups coming later tonight.

Is it OK to remind Doug Melvin that Tyler Thornburg turns 24 in September?

Mike Fiers settling in nicely under tough wind / hitters' park conditions in Vegas tonight. Hoping for a nice final line recovery in the AM.

Final: Huntsville 4, Birmingham 3

Huntsville Box Score

Well Tyler Thornburg was better tonight, he was stung by a walk and then a HR in the 5th which was all the scoring against him. Tyler went 6.1 innings allowing 6 hits, 2BB, and 2ER against 5SOs while throwing 62 of 99 pitches for strikes and putting up a 9:2 GO:FO ratio while managing to survive 4 of the 5 XBHs against him. After giving up a 3B in the 7th he was replaced reaching his pitch count by Mitch Stetter who bailed him out stranding his runner at 3rd with a SO and a ground out, then Mitch retired first batter in the 8th as well. Brandon Kintzler made his 3rd relief appearance for the Stars retiring the final 2 batters of the 8th. Jesus Sanchez came on for the 9th and unfortunately his scoreless appearance streak came to an end, but it was a hell of a run. Jesus loaded the bases after he had 2 outs issuing 2 walks and a HBP and then uncorking a WP. The runner from 2nd base tried to score on the as well play but Hunter Morris (wow where did the ball go?) got him in the ball in time to get the out at home.

The Stars put up 10 hits but it was a team effort as only Josh Prince (2-4) and Scooter Gennett (3-4) had multiple hits, Gennett and Lee Haydel also tripled. Prince has now hit in 7 of his last 8 games raising his AVE all the way to .251 which makes his OBP a respectable .346. Josh was caught stealing for the 7th time but Tommy Manzella swiped his 1st and Gennett his 7th but Manzella also committed his 1st error (fielding).

Huntsville Play By Play

The Stars got their runs in the 3rd and 6th.

Huntsville Bottom of the 3rd

  • Lee Haydel triples (2) on a fly ball to right fielder Jose Martinez.
Josh Prince singles on a line drive to center fielder Jared Mitchell. Lee Haydel scores.
Tommy Manzella lines out to right fielder Jose Martinez.
Scooter Gennett triples (2) on a line drive to right fielder Jose Martinez. Josh Prince scores.
Hunter Morris grounds out, second baseman Jose Castro to first baseman Seth Loman.
Jason Jaramillo strikes out on foul tip.

Huntsville Bottom of the 6th

  • Scooter Gennett singles on a line drive to right fielder Jose Martinez.
With Hunter Morris batting, wild pitch by Nestor Molina, Scooter Gennett to 2nd.
    Hunter Morris strikes out swinging.
Jason Jaramillo walks. Wild pitch by pitcher Nestor Molina. Scooter Gennett to 3rd.
Jay Gibbons singles on a ground ball to center fielder Jared Mitchell. Scooter Gennett scores. Jason Jaramillo to 2nd.
Kentrail Davis singles on a line drive to center fielder Jared Mitchell. Jason Jaramillo scores. Jay Gibbons to 2nd.
Juan Sanchez flies out to right fielder Jose Martinez.
    Lee Haydel strikes out swinging.

Sanchez' escape in the 9th on more time, he just didn't have it tonight.

Birmingham Top of the 9th

  • Pitcher Change: Jesus Sanchez replaces Brandon Kintzler.
Luis Sierra singles on a ground ball to third baseman Juan Sanchez.
Kenneth Williams grounds into double play, shortstop Tommy Manzella to second baseman Scooter Gennett to first baseman Hunter Morris. Luis Sierra out at 2nd.
    Jose Castro walks.
Tyler Saladino walks. Jose Castro to 2nd.
Jared Mitchell hit by pitch. Jose Castro to 3rd. Tyler Saladino to 2nd.
With Corey Smith batting, wild pitch by Jesus Sanchez, Jose Castro scores. Tyler Saladino out at home, first baseman Hunter Morris to pitcher Jesus Sanchez.

edit. Well Mass posted after I started the recap so I'm not going to edit now.
