Im always amazed how quickly baseball fans turn on above average players. Its like personal.

It is personal. Izturis killed my dog.

The most hilarious part about Izturis is hearing Roenicke constantly talk about how much he can't afford to lose him and how badly he needs to protect Izturis and get him a day off here or there like he's some sort of prized asset that they can't afford to lose.

It doesn't make sense to sit a catcher the caliber of Lucroy once every 5 games. He can play more than that, especially with scheduled off days mixed in. Luc should be catching 135-140 games. That won't happen with this setup. Take a look at good catchers like Yadier Molina. 140, 136, and 139 starts the last 3 seasons. That's what Luc should be doing. Not the 120-125 or so Luc will end up getting, because he'll end up sitting some day game after night games too in certain situations.

Only problem with that is the actual math.

Lucroy has played 37 out of 41 games this season, that's 90.2% of the games. Over 162 game season Lucroy is on pace to play 146 games.

Not trying to be confrontational, I just think the way Lucroy is being used is good for the team and it sure seems to be working for him.

Everything I've ever known, I've learned from Brewerfan.net....Seriously though

Above average? Is this supposed to be in blue? Are we talking about the same Izturis? The one who has been overall below replacement level the last three seasons, the one who has had a WAR above 1.2 one time in his 12 year career? That Izturis is an above average player?

EDIT: If you were talking about Weeks and I missed it, my bad.

Wait, are you saying Izturis is an above average player?

Believe that was about Weeks.

Ok then I understand. The comment was just way after people were bashing Weeks. It was right after the Izturis bashing.

Can we stop bashing on Roenicke for giving the day off when even Luc admits he needed the day off?

Lucroy isn't the type to bash his manager, even when he deserves to be bashed.

He said what he was supposed to say, that doesn't mean that is what he was really thinking... Any hitter in a groove like Luc doesn't want to sit.

Not to be a jerk, but then use the same stat for Molina...he's started 135-140 games once in his career, the past two have been 130 and 132. I would like to see Luc hit 130 as well, and he should if he sits out all of Wolf's starts. Throw in a few day games after night games and it drops to about 125 (although those could be canceled out some if he DH's in Wolf starts during interleague). It will end up being a difference of a few games.

Also worth noting how much Lucroy has worn down in September the past two seasons, playing as much as he has. Last September he was at .188/.284/.359. .256/.307/.366 in August. He was actually pretty bad overall after May.

I think we get the point about catchers starting a lot of games. Nobody wants Lucroy to start every game. We just want Roenicke to be smarter with how he gives him those days off (i.e. should be starting against the tough left-hander instead of Kottaras, regardless of whether or not Wolf is pitching).

He'll end up in the 120-125 range. I want him in the 130-135 range. That's a big enough difference to me. But most importantly, I'd rather not have his off days be scheduled like they are now. Should just be whenever Roenicke feels like giving him a day off just like any other top catcher. He shouldn't be getting days off against LHP coming off a 7 RBI game. That's the real point here. And it wouldn't happen if Wolf wasn't confined to Kottaras. I'd feel better about Kottaras getting 35-40 starts if it was done in a smarter manner.

It annoys me beyond belief when MLB hitters suddenly slouch into a relaxed stance, giving away that they're taking the pitch before the ball is even thrown. Really, you can't at least maintain some sort of aggressive stance at the plate so that the pitcher doesn't know that he can just throw a free strike?

the Happy feeling has worn off very fast from yesterday.

Hard to get too high about yesterday anyway. Beat the worst team in baseball at home with our ace on the mound. If that's cause for celebration than we sure have lowered our standards.
