Once again this season, Brevard does not have its own audio coverage. It appears two teams in the Manatees North Division (within which the majority of games are played) have audio, and all six teams in the South Division have audio (at least for their home games), so there will be opportunities to listen to approx. 70% or Brevard's games this season, just all from the opponent's perspective. There are no Florida State League games on MiLB.TV this year.

Sad news today in the Timber Rattler family. Brock, everyone's favorite hawker, passed away monday night. If you've ever been to a game at Fox Cities Stadium, I'm sure you remember him. He truly loved his job. I've had season tickets for over a decade and am now in my second year of working for the team and in the hundreds of games I've been to, I never saw him let up for even a moment. His enthusiasm was unmatched. There will be a moment of silence in honor of Brock before the game tonight.

If they're able to get both games in tonight (more weather concerns), it looks like it'll actually be a "committee" game for the nightcap. Brooks Hall is starting game one.

SECOND GAME OF WEDNESDAY'S MANATEES/CUBS DOUBLEHEADER POSTPONED

 

VIERA, Fla. - The second game of the scheduled doubleheader on Wednesday, May 16 between the Brevard County Manatees and the Daytona Cubs has been postponed due to inclement weather.

 

The game will be made up as part of single-admission doubleheader when the Cubs return to Space Coast Stadium on Tuesday, May 29 at 5:05 PM (4:05 Central). Brevard County and Daytona will play two seven-inning games that day.

Brevard falls in extras to Daytona

VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees fell 6-2 in eight innings to the Daytona Cubs on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader. The second game was postponed due to inclement weather and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on May 29.

 

In his second start for the 'Tees, Brooks Hall (0-1, 2.41) gave up two runs - both in the first inning - in five frames of work. He allowed five hits, while walking two and striking out three. He allowed a lead-off triple to Matt Szczur who scored two batters later on a Nelson Perez single. Perez scored three batters later on an Elieser Bonne RBI single.

 

Brevard County (14-24) was held to just one hit against Daytona (15-22) starter Matt Loosen in his 5 2/3 innings of work. The Manatees broke through against reliever Tony Zych as they recorded three consecutive hits against him in the sixth, including a two-run single by Shawn Zarraga that tied the game at 2-2.

 

It would stay tied after seven innings and go into extras as the Cubs put a four spot on the board in the top of the eighth against Greg Holle. Holle had pitched a scoreless seventh but Daytona racked up five hits in the inning against the righty.

 

Game two was scheduled to start 30 minutes following the end of game one but heavy rain, coupled with thunder and lightning forced the contest to be postponed.

 

Brevard will look to end their six-game losing streak as they welcome the Fort Myers Miracle (15-24) to Space Coast Stadium for a four-game series beginning on Thursday night at 6:35 p.m.

 

2011 first round draft pick Taylor Jungmann (2-3, 2.79) will take the hill for the Manatees. The former Texas Longhorn has a 1.57 ERA at home, but is still seeking his first victory since his second start of the season back on April 10.For the Miracle, they will send righty Marty Popham (3-1, 4.66) to the bump.

Brooks Hall had a bumpy but effective start. I for one am very encouraged by his first handful of appearances. 5 IP 5 H 2 R 2 ER 2 BB 3 K 5:4 GO:FO. Brandon Kinzler completed an impressive exit interview. Greg Holle surrendered the game winner in the 8th. He has been pretty good otherwise.

 

Franklin Romero Jr. nailed a runner at home. Shawn Zarraga nailed half of the attempted stolen bases, including speedster Matt Sczcur.

 

7 baserunners on the night for the 'Tees. Of the 11 position players to make an appearance for Daytona, 6 have higher batting averages than Nick Shaw, who paced the Manatee position players who played today.

Ramirez, Rattlers beat Bees in ten

GRAND CHUTE, WI - A lot happened between Nick Ramirez driving in the first run of the game in the first inning and the winning run in the tenth inning on Wednesday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. However, the end result was a 5-4 victory for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers over the Burlington Bees.

 

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez got into the action from the second pitch of the game. Gomez made a long run to catch a fly ball off the bat of Burlington the leadoff batter in right-center. He also ran down a ball just shy of the wall in center field for the final out of the top of the first.

 

Gomez reached on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the first inning. Then, he went from first to third on a single to center by Jason Rogers. A sacrifice fly by Ramirez sent Gomez home with the first run of the game.

 

Wisconsin (24-16) made it 2-0 later in the inning as Greg Hopkins singled to get Rogers home with a run.

 

Ben McMahan and Rogers would hit solo home runs in the fourth and fifth innings respectively to push Wisconsin's lead to 4-0.

 

Moye, who was named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week on Monday, was the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers and he cruised after allowing a two out triple in the second inning. The right-hander retired twelve straight until Sean Jamieson hit a solo homer with two outs in the top of the sixth. That homer ended Moye's scoreless streak at 17-2/3 innings. Moye struck out six, allowed three hits, walked none, and looked like he was in line for his third win of the season.

 

But, the Bees (17-22) rallied with one hit in the top of the eighth against the Wisconsin bullpen. Stephen Peterson, who worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning issued a walk, gave up a double, and handed out another free pass to load the bases with no outs. Then, Peterson walked Aaron Shipman to force in a run.

 

Timber Rattlers closer Seth Harvey took over for Peterson, but walked Jamieson to force in another run. A sacrifice fly by Royce Consigli got the third run of the inning home and tied the game 4-4.

 

The Bees threatened to take the lead in the top of the tenth against Tommy Toledo. Consecutive singles, a sacrifice bunt, and an intentional walk loaded the bases with one out. Toledo escaped when he got BA Vollmuth to ground into an inning ending 4-6-3 double play.

 

Max Walla started the winning rally for the Rattlers with a one out double in the tenth. Walla entered the game as a defensive replacement for Gomez in the sixth inning after Gomez had finished his planned five innings in the game. His double ended a string of 13 straight Rattlers retired by Burlington reliever Seth Frankoff. Jason Rogers drew a walk from Frankoff to put two runners on with one out and brought Ramirez to the plate.

 

Burlington went to the bullpen and brought lefty Jeff Urlaub on to face the left-handed Ramirez to try to get the double play and extend the game to the eleventh.

 

Ramirez fouled off a tough 2-2 pitch before lining the next offering on one hop off the left field wall to send Walla home with the winning run to snap Wisconsin's three game losing streak.

 

The win was the fourth "walkoff" in 24 home games this season for the Timber Rattlers. In 2011, Wisconsin had four "walkoff" wins in 70 home games.

 

Game two of the series is Thursday night. Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez is scheduled to make his second rehabilitation start for the Timber Rattlers in this game. The scheduling pitching matchup is Matt Miller (2-3, 3.95) for the Timber Rattlers and Raul Alcantara (2-4, 4.41) for the Bees. Game time is 6:35pm.

 

The first 1,000 fans to attend this game will receive a poster of Timber Rattlers RBI leader Jason Rogers. This poster is the fourth in a series of ten that are to be given away during the 2012 season.

 

Thursday is a Slugger's Sports Bar Thirsty Thursday presented by 95.9 KISS FM and College Night. The losing streak is over! Andy Moye pitched pretty darn well again, his final line was 6IP, 3H 1ER, 1HR, 0BB, and 6SO while throwing only 65 pitches but 45 for strikes. I don't have a good explanation for his continuously low pitch counts, it's been happening all season. He's extremely efficient with his pitches but I'm unsure why they wouldn't stretch him out to 85 pitches unless he's destined for a relief role? He could easily pitch a complete game or very close to if allowed to go the full 85 like the rest of the staff. Chris covered the rest of the pitching above.

 

Did anyone else find it a bit amusing that Max Walla was the defensive replacement for Carlos Gomez? At least Max made it count with the 2B and then scoring the game winning run. Jason Rogers, Gregory Hopkins, and Ben McMahan had 2 hits a pieces, the Rogers and McMahan homers will covered above. Yadiel Rivera also added a double to complete the offensive side of the coin for the T-Rats tonight. Chadwin Stang stole 2 bases for a total of 8 on the season while Hopkins was caught stealing for the third time (he was actually picked off). The Rattlers played clean D and no Bees tried to steal a base.
