Speaking of Josh Hamilton (somebody had to) [Latest… Melvin: We have the connection with Narron but not with US Bank… post 230]

Not gonna happen............ Hamilton, a guy that doesn't drink anymore because of past/present addiction problems, is not going to be a BREWer and head to a place synomous with beer and tailgating. Not a good idea for him. Risky addition at a premium price for the Brewers.

I posted that already in this thread and it was dismissed as irrelevant. I'm pretty sure it's more than relevant and would probably be Josh's #1 reason not to play in Milwaukee.

I don't think he'll sign with the Brewers but this logic is pretty dumb. There are bars in every big city. There is beer sold at every stadium.

Yeah, I agree. It's not like the Brewers players go out to the parking lot and tailgate with the fans before the games or something.

But with the way they're playing, you would think that's the case :-)

Even if he WOULD sign with the Brewers there is no way in he!! they should sign him. And I put the odds of the Brewers attempting to sign him at less than .00001%

Do I think the Brewers would have interest in Hamilton? Sure, why not?

Do I think Hamilton might want to reunite with the Narrons? Sure, why not?

Do I think Hamilton is going to get less money than most people seem to think he'll get....yes, I do.

Do I think it's at least possible that the Brewers would offer Hamilton 100ish million, and he'd take it...yes, I do.

Given all of that, do I think it's likely that Josh Hamilton will sign a long term contract with the Brewers after this season....no, I really don't.

We'll see what happens, I don't think it's as far fetched as some people do, but I just think that if it came right down to it, either someone else would add an extra ten million to their offer, or the Brewers would consider Hamilton's past health issues, and back away.

It seems hard to believe that the Brewers would let fan favorites walk two years in a row then pony up for Josh Hamilton. I'd rather just put that money into a Zack Greinke contract.

Josh Hamilton could become a fan favorite before he even steps foot on the field. Greinke became a fan favorite in a year. It wouldnt take Hamilton very long. Not saying they should do the signing but I would rather have Hamilton than Prince long-term because I think Hamilton could be moved to first and still be really valuable.

The Brewers wouldn't back away, but them getting outbid by another team is pretty much a certainty. That's why I don't see anyway Hamilton ends up in Milwaukee.

DING! DING! And I'm not talking about substance abuse issues either. He's on the wrong side of 30 and can't play a full season as it stands. That won't get better as he ages.

I dont think we will get him but one thing that Milwaukee would have in its favor is that Hamilton seems very focused (and rightfully so) on being surrounded by the right people. People who are good influences on him. One of those areas he is focused on is his faith. I dont want this to get into a spiritual debate but it is somewhat important to where Josh ends up. One reason why Josh is so close with Narron is they are both evangelical Christians and so is Ron R so that would at least make Milwaukee a somewhat appealing option. I dont think this is grasping at straws because Hamilton is very out spoken about his faith and the importance it has in his staying clean so he will probably make sure wherever he ends up is a place he feels good about spiritually. It is a very unique situation for a free agent

Singing Hamilton to pair with Braun only would recreate the issues of 2009 and 2010 where the Crew was all offense, no pitching. The rotation would most certainly be Gallardo, Estrada, Fiers, Narveson and Peralta/FA/Thornburg. That rotation doesn't win anything in 2013. Like others have said, I'd rather put that money toward Greinke and roll the dice with him than Hamilton.

Will Carroll was just on WSSP and said there's a "distinct possibility" that Hamilton is a Brewer next year.

If we move ARam i like it at the right price. It doesnt cost us any young guys in a trade and will force us to try some of our young pitchers.

If we can move Greinke and Ramirez and get some young pitching back we wont be contenders right away next year but we will surprise some teams. If Greinke could net us a guy who could slide into the rotation next year we would have Gallardo, Fiers, Estrada, New guy, Thornburg, with guys like Peralta and Rogers and Narveson coming back. Not amazing at all but is it really that much worse than what Pittsburgh is throwing out there.

With Marcum, Wolf, Greinke, ARam, Alex Gonzalez and KRod off the books we could easily bring in Hamilton, a decent SS and some bullpen help.

Our OF would consist of Braun, Hamilton and Aoki which is very good. In the IF we have Hart, Weeks, a new SS via trade or FA, and Green at 3B. Gamel could be the left handed bat off the bench and Gomez a right handed bat. Lucroy and Maldonado are a great catching pair.

Again not great but allows us to be competitive while not trading any of our prospects

This makes me think there's actually a chance of it happening. Will Carroll is a very credible source. Before now, I really didn't believe there was any chance. Was this on Bill Michaels or Chuck and Wickett? I'll have to listen to it later.

Has anyone else noticed that Hamilton has been horrible since May? I know that he's had some injury issues, so I wonder if they've been affecting him. I think that any team giving him a huge contract will be taking a major risk. I can't see any scenario in which the Brewers would sign him though.

Yeah, he's been pretty bad in June and July. Hamilton has always been a huge risk. I don't think anything will change that. It's definitely risky to sign him to a big deal. Not sure how many teams will actually be scared off though, just because he'll be the best available bat on the market.

Agree, plus if Hamilton is singing, what is Mark A's Dad going to do on opening day?!
