Sorry, no audio for this series...

Once again this season, Brevard does not have its own audio coverage. It appears two teams in the Manatees North Division (within which the majority of games are played) have audio, and all six teams in the South Division have audio (at least for their home games), so there will be opportunities to listen to approx. 70% or Brevard's games this season, just all from the opponent's perspective. There are no Florida State League games on MiLB.TV this year.

Walk off double for Corey Patterson in the bottom of 11 to knock in Eric Farris who had singled with 2 out. A nice come from behind win. Brooks Conrad had tied it in the 8th with his 5th of the year. Could he be headed to SF to meet the Brewers? Four shutout innings in relief for the newly acquired Johnnie Lowe for the win.

Sounds Walk Off Again Over Omaha, Win Fourth Straight

05/02/2012 12:55 PM ET

Nashville Sounds

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Corey Patterson delivered a walk-off double in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Sounds a 5-4 victory over the division-leading Omaha Storm Chasers on Wednesday afternoon at Greer Stadium.

With two outs, second baseman Eric Farris reached on an infield single and hurried around the bases as Patterson lined his second double of the game to the wall in right center for the club's fourth straight victory.

It was the league-leading fifth extra-inning contest for Nashville (8-17) and the club's 17th contest decided by two runs or less (5-12).

Hot-hitting Brooks Conrad homered for the third straight game, which also extended his hitting streak to a team-high 10 games.

The Storm Chasers batted around and plated their first three runs in the opening frame against Nashville starter Brian Baker.

After Irving Falu tripled down the right field line, Johnny Giavotella crushed his fourth homer of the season to left for the first two runs. The Storm Chasers followed with three consecutive two-out singles, including David Lough's RBI base hit to score Max Ramirez for the third. The Storm Chasers left the bases full as Baker struck out his final batter on his 36th pitch of the inning.

Omaha extended its lead to 4-0 in the top of the sixth. Former Sound Jason Bourgeois singled to left field, advanced to second on a sacrifice, and scored on a Giavotella RBI base hit to center.

The Sounds cut the lead in half at 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh as third baseman Taylor Green (2-for-4) and designated hitter Sean Halton started the frame with singles off reliever Sean O' Sullivan.

Two batters later, Farris reached on an infield groundout to move Green to third and then moved to scoring position on a wild pitch. Both runners scored on a line drive double by Patterson, who has driven in four runs in his last two games.

Nashville knotted the game at 4-4 in the next inning against reliever Roman Colon. Outfielder Logan Schafer struck out but advanced to first base on a wild pitch, followed by a game-tying, opposite-field homer by Conrad. The two-run shot over the left field wall was Conrad's fifth of the season and third in his last three games.

In his shortest start of the season, Baker pitched 2 2/3 innings and was charged with three runs on eight hits with three strike outs.

Donovan Hand gave up one run on two hits in 2 2/3 innings. Relievers Dan Meadows contributed 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

Johnnie Lowe picked up his first Triple-A win with a season-high four scoreless innings while extended his shutout streak to 8.0 innings this season.

The Storm Chasers stole four bags on the afternoon, the most this season against the Sounds, who came into the game ranked second in the PCL by throwing out 48% of runners.

The Sounds snapped their errorless streak at 43 innings with a fielding error by Conrad in the top of the fifth. (Catch the ball, Conrad!)

In his first start for the Storm Chasers this season after being optioned by the Royals, starting pitching Everett Teaford gave up three hits over 5 2/3 scoreless innings. Francisley Bueno (0-2 ) took the loss.

The Sounds and Storm Chasers will play the finale on a four-game series at 7:05 pm CT on Taco Bell Throwback Thursday. Right-hander Mike Fiers (0-2, 4.63) will toe the rubber against left-hander Vin Mazzaro (0-0, 5.14).

Box Score

Walk it off, Nashville! Four straight wins now. Corey Patterson (2-5 2B 2B) preformed the finishing move on the AAA Royals. Brooks Conrad (1-4 HR BB) tied the game up in the 8th. Taylor Green (2-5) and Eric Farris (2-5) also had big games.

Again I see this in the "Baserunning" section:

BASERUNNING

SB: Farris (6, 2nd base off O'Sullivan/Ramirez, M).

CS: Farris (2, 2nd base by Teaford/Ramirez, M).

PO: Farris (1st base by Teaford).

Incredible.

Donavan Hand, Daniel Meadows and Johnnie Lowe went 8 1/3 giving up only 1 run. Lowe earned the win with 4 scoreless to close out the game for the Sounds.

Paul Phillips was getting worked a bit. Brian Baker was likely part of the problem.

BASERUNNING

SB: Seratelli (4, 3rd base off Baker, B/Phillips), Lough (7, 2nd base off Baker, B/Phillips), Falu (6, 2nd base off Baker, B/Phillips), Giavotella (1, 2nd base off Hand/Phillips).

The Omaha lineup is full of big league caliber bats. Some of them profile as average to slightly above. We go for the sweep tomorrow. Get it done Sounds!

Nelson wasn't really sharp tonight (10 baserunners in 5 2/3) but he did get all his outs via groundball or strike out. He only gave up one run and struck out 8. I have high standards for the guy when this night is somewhat underwhelming :)

Thornburg is just dominant right now. 7 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, and 7 K. He has only one start when he has given up more than 1 ER!

Tampa (Yankees) 3 Brevard County 2

Box Score

Poor Brevard was walked-off on by the Tampa Yankees. Shawn Zarraga hit a 3B. T.J. Mittelstaedt (2-4 2 2B BB) was by far the best hitter on the night.

Jimmy Nelson continues his early season success. What is really impressive is how Nelson has managed to improve significantly despite moving up a level. Nelson's ERA sits at 1.73, his BAA is well under .200 and he averages over one K per inning. Niceville, FL should be proud.

Alan Williams blew the hold/save/whatever in the 7th. He issued 3 BB to just 1 K. His command has been off his last two appearances. Swing-man Brooks Hall enter mid-inning for Williams and left unscathed 4 outs later. 6 K in 5 2/3 IP for Hall this season. Wild Thomas Keeling started the extra frame and promptly hit a batter, gave up a hit and walked a guy amongst his three K's. Then, after a punchless top of the 11th, this happened:

Tampa Bottom of the 11th

Eduardo Sosa grounds out, second baseman Shea Vucinich to first baseman Cody Hawn.

Kelvin Castro singles on a fly ball to center fielder Reggie Keen.

Ramon Flores singles on a pop up to shortstop Nick Shaw. Kelvin Castro to 2nd.

Rob Segedin grounds out, second baseman Shea Vucinich to first baseman Cody Hawn. Kelvin Castro to 3rd. Ramon Flores to 2nd.

Jose Toussen singles on a line drive to center fielder Reggie Keen. Kelvin Castro scores. Ramon Flores to 3rd.

Hot (2 OF assists, 1 nice DP) and cold (3 errors) defense on the night. Franklin Romero Jr. seems to be racking up assists, but when I checked, I found out he has 3. That is actually a pretty nice pace.

Game Log

Nelson's rough 1st.

Tampa Bottom of the 1st

Eduardo Sosa singles on a ground ball to center fielder Reggie Keen.

With Kelvin Castro batting, Eduardo Sosa steals (4) 2nd base, . Eduardo Sosa advances to 3rd, on throwing error by catcher Shawn Zarraga.

With Ramon Flores batting, Kelvin Castro caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Shawn Zarraga to second baseman Shea Vucinich.

Final: Huntsville 5, Chattanooga 2

Huntsville Box Score

I've admittedly had too much to drink, but I'm pretty sure this is the Stars 6th win in a row? Tyler Thornburg is going to make a fine reliever one day, his line was covered previously in the thread. Mitch Stetter who got some run in the Gord Ash audio Mass linked earlier today gave up a run on a HR and his ERA is currently 6+. Darren Byrd pitched the final inning for his first save.

On the position player side Jeff Bianchi went 2-3 with a double and a walk. Andy Gonzalez went 2-4, Lee Haydel went 2-2, and Hunter Morris added a double. Another clean game defensively and Jason Jarmillo nailed 1 of the 2 runners trying to steal a base.

Khris Davis did not have an appearance in the game.

Huntsville Play By Play

Crooked numbers in the first and 3rd is all Thornburg would need.

Scooter Gennett singles on a ground ball to second baseman Luis Nunez. Jeff Bianchi to 3rd.
Andy Gonzalez grounds into double play, second baseman Luis Nunez to shortstop Rafael Ynoa to first baseman Matt Wallach. Jeff Bianchi scores. Scooter Gennett out at 2nd.
Hunter Morris lines out to first baseman Matt Wallach.

Final: Wisconsin 12, Clinton 5

Rattlers start road trip by scoring a dozen to beat Clinton

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

CLINTON, IA - The Wisconsin Timber Rattler scored in every inning from the third through the eighth and cruised to a 12-5 victory over the Clinton LumberKings Wednesday night at Ashford University Field. Ben McMahan had three extra base hits, drove in two runs and scored two more runs to lead the Rattlers 11-hit attack.

McMahan tripled to lead off the Rattlers half of the third inning. An RBI grounder by John Dishon got McMahan home to give the Rattlers a 1-0 lead. Wisconsin (15-11) went in front 2-0 when Greg Hopkins tripled in Jason Rogers with two outs in the fourth.

Clinton (10-15) scored three times in the bottom of the third inning. Jamal Austin tripled to start the inning and Steve Baron drove him in with a sacrifice fly. Rattlers starting pitcher Matt Miller, who had retired the first nine batters he faced, hit the next Clinton hitter and allowed a two-run homer by Jabari Blash. The sixth homer of the season by Blash put Clinton up 3-2.

But, Wisconsin rallied back with two runs in the fifth, two runs in the sixth, and two more in the seventh to grab an 8-3 lead.

In the fifth, the Rattlers loaded the bases with two outs. Max Walla's infield single drove in the tying run. Jason Rogers put the Rattlers up 4-3 by drawing a bases loaded walk.

In the sixth, Clinton miscues led to two more Wisconsin runs. McMahan reached on a dropped third strike and was at second with two outs. Dishon's grounder to third turned into a wild throw to first and a collision between Dishon and LumberKings first baseman Jharmidy DeJesus. When the dust settled, McMahan had scored and Dishon was on third. Later in the sixth, Chadwin Stang was at first with Dishon at third and the two pulled a double steal. Stang broke for second to draw the throw and Dishon scored without a play when the second baseman dropped the ball trying to throw home.

In the seventh, Rogers doubled and was at third with one out. The LumberKings brought the infield in and Yadiel Rivera sent a slow grounder to short with Rogers heading for the plate. The throw home was off target and Rogers scored. McMahan was next and he doubled to drive home Rivera for an 8-3 lead.

Miller stumbled a bit in the in the bottom of the seventh inning. He gave up a leadoff walk and a double to put runners at second and third with no outs. Dillon Hazlett's infield single scored one run. A sacrifice fly by Austin scored the other to cut Wisconsin's lead to 8-5.

But, Wisconsin's bats went back to work in the eighth inning and scored four runs to put the game away. Walla had an RBI single. Hopkins added a sacrifice fly. McMahan drove in his second run of the night with a double. Rivera would score the last Wisconsin run on a wild pitch in the eighth for a 12-5 advantage.

Miller gave way after his seventh inning. He struck out seven and picked up his first win of the season.

Tommy Toledo and Stephen Peterson pitched the eighth and ninth respectively without incident and the Rattlers won their third straight game.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Thursday night at Ashford University Field. Drew Gagnon (2-0, 0.64) is set to start for the Rattlers. Clinton sends Ambioris Hidalgo (1-2, 5.40) to the hill. Game time is 6:30pm. Tune in to AM 1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:10pm.

HOME RUN:

CLN:

Jabari Blash (6th, 1 on in 4th inning, off Matt Miller, 1 out)

WP: Matt Miller (1-3)

LP: Cameron Hobson (0-5)

TIME: 2:57

ATTN: 514

We are extremely fortunate to have Chris, his 9 After 9 for 5/2/2012.

Wisconsin Box Score

I firmly believe that Matt Miller could be a good starting pitcher if not an excellent reliever if he would get out of his own way, I was literally shocked when I saw his FB had as much movement as it did.

Obviously a huge day offensively highlighted by Ben McMahan's 3-5 with 2 doubles and triple. Max Walla went 2-6 and Jason Rogers went 2-4 with a double. Greg Hopkins added that triple Chris covered above, John Dishon stole a base, it was a clean game defensively, and Tyler Roberts was 1-3 taking out would be thieves on the bases.

Wisconsin Play By Play

Chris covered Miller's outing in pretty good detail, if you like offense this is a fun recap to browse.

SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN FOR STARS

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.- The Huntsville Stars (16-11) increased their winning streak to six games with a 5-2 victory against the Chattanooga Lookouts (11-16) on Wednesday night at Joe Davis Stadium.

The Stars were in control from the get-go, as an RBI double by shortstop Jeff Bianchi and a run-scoring groundout by third baseman Andy Gonzalez gave Huntsville a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Then, in the third inning, a two-run double by first baseman Hunter Morris increased the lead to 4-0. For Morris, the double was his Southern League-leading 13th of the season.

The early lead proved to be plenty of run support for Stars starting pitcher Tyler Thornburg, who had yet another dynamite performance on the mound. The highly touted righty gave up just one run and five hits in seven innings while striking out seven to improve to 3-0 on the season.

For Chattanooga, their only runs came on an RBI double by outfielder Kyle Russell off of Thornburg in the seventh inning and a solo-home run from catcher Griff Erickson off of Stars LHP Mitch Stetter in the eighth inning.

Aside from Thornburg, Stars RHP Darren Byrd notched his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.

On offense, the Stars got two hits apiece from Bianchi, Gonzalez and pinch-hitter Lee Haydel. Haydel stayed in the game for left fielder Jay Gibbons in the eighth inning. For Bianchi, it was his second multi-hit game in as many games since being activated from the disabled list.

For the Stars, the season-high six game winning streak is the longest stretch they’ve amassed since they won six straight games in 2011 from April 11-17th.

The Stars will try to make it seven wins in a row on Thursday as they will send RHP Evan Anundsen (1-1, 2.05 ERA) to the mound to face off against Lookouts' RHP Allen Webster (1-4, 5.68 ERA). First pitch is at 6:43 p.m.

Brevard falls in 11 innings to Tampa

By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees

TAMPA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees dropped their third game in a row as they were edged in 11 innings by the Tampa Yankees, 3-2 on Wednesday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

'Tees starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson (2-1, 1.73) went just 5 2/3 innings but struck out eight Tampa hitters. He allowed one earned run on seven hits, while walking three. Nelson has recorded 39 strikeouts in 36 1/3 innings of work so far in 2012.

Brevard County (11-15) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Miguel Velazquez singled home T.J. Mittelstaedt. The Yanks tied it in the bottom of the inning thanks to a RBI single by Kelvin Castro.

In the top of the third, the Manatees took a 2-1 lead as Shawn Zarraga's two-out triple drove in Cody Hawn. Brevard County held on to that 2-1 lead until the bottom of the seventh as Tampa (13-13) tied the game thanks to a throwing error on a pickoff attempt with two outs by Zarraga.

The Manatees had a chance to take the lead in the top of the ninth as they had the bases loaded with two outs, but Hawn flied out to center to end the threat and leave the bases juiced.

The game remained tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the 11th as back-to-back one-out singles by Castro and Ramon Flores gave the Yankees runners on first and second. A ground out by Rob Segedin advanced both runners 90 feet and Jose Toussen would single to center off of Thomas Keeling to drive in the winning run.

Alan Williams was charged with his third blown save of the season as he allowed one unearned run, from the Zarraga error, in two innings of work. Brooks Hall threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Offensively, the Manatees scattered seven hits with Mittelstaedt going 2-for-4 with two doubles. He currently leads Brevard County with a .271 batting average.

Brevard County left 11 runners on base and went 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position. So far in 2012, the 'Tees are hitting just .192 with runners in scoring position.

The Manatees will look to snap their three-game losing streak and salvage the series in Thursday's finale at 11:00 AM (10:00 Central).

2011 first round draft pick Jed Bradley (2-2, 2.79) will look to end Brevard's skid, while Tampa will counter with Shane Greene (0-1, 3.60).
