Sorry, no audio for this series...

Once again this season, Brevard does not have its own audio coverage. It appears two teams in the Manatees North Division (within which the majority of games are played) have audio, and all six teams in the South Division have audio (at least for their home games), so there will be opportunities to listen to approx. 70% or Brevard's games this season, just all from the opponent's perspective. There are no Florida State League games on MiLB.TV this year.

Wisconsin: RHP Mark Williams at South Bend (Diamondbacks), 5:45 PM pre-game, 6:05 gametime

Chris Mehring is back to do his customary fantastic work as the Voice of the Rattlers. Follow him on Twitter @CMehring; we'll link to Chris' infamous blog often -- Rattler Radio.

MiLB.TV -- for subscribers; Wisconsin is one of only two (Great Lakes) Midwest League clubs that have all their home games available via MiLB.TV; Chris' call provides the audio. So for the $39.95 season-long package, fans in Brewer Nation can watch all Sounds games, all Timber Rattlers home games, and 24 Stars' road games (one Helena series this summer, too).

Utility player Juan Sanchez was replaced early in the Manatee game after a simple throw to short --

Clearwater Bottom of the 1st

Peter Lavin grounds out, second baseman T. J. Mittelstaedt to first baseman Cody Hawn.

Albert Cartwright called out on strikes.

Brandon Tripp grounds out, shortstop Juan Sanchez to first baseman Cody Hawn.

Clearwater Bottom of the 2nd

Defensive Substitution: Shea Vucinich replaces shortstop Juan Sanchez, batting 8th, playing shortstop.

Could be just about anything, maybe got sick...

Well, this is different.

The organization determined that Sanchez' utility-ness was needed in Huntsville, so Sanchez was pulled from this game to make the move. He'll be in a Stars' uniform tonight.

I don't why but I have an affinity for the Jack of all Trades players like Sanchez and Brownstein, but they never seem to make it. Even Vinny Rottino is still toiling away in the minors chasing down his dream and he's hit at every single level and sports a career .783 MiLB OPS.

I guess I just really liked the way Sanchez went about his business in WI but his bat just hasn't gotten going since he's been with the Brewer organization.

We indicated in this Transaction Thread post that the Huntsville rotation seemed to be in a bit of flux. Newcomer (Mets waiver claim) Josh Stinson is now listed as Tuesday's starter, Wed. at Mississippi is TBD.

Stinson has starting experience (15 of his 40 appearances last year were as a starter, including all 13 outings at the AAA level -- he struggled). We'll have to see if this is a spot start out of necessity, or something the Brewers will push with Stinson.

Also, I don't remember the last time I was less excited about our AAA team. Eric Farris playing LF? Look out, Brauny.

So many exciting teams to choose from lately.

There was a time when I rarely missed AAA audio, at least early in the season, now I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I caught a Nashville game. It's really too bad, I've heard plenty of memorable calls over the years punctuated by Parra's perfect game, but that team has just held very little interest for me a long time.

I've been much more drawn to A and R+ in recent years, the players are relatively new to the system, they always have audio, and I'm sure Chris and Steve factor largely into the picture as well.

Final: South Bend (D-Backs) 8, Wisconsin 1

South Bend scores a big win

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

SOUTH BEND, IN - The South Bend Silver Hawks grabbed an early 4-0 lead over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Monday night at Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium. The Hawks kept adding their lead and beat the Rattlers 8-1.

The Silver Hawks (10-8) took advantage of a couple of miscues in the first to score their first run. A dropped third strike allowed South Bend leadoff batter Chris Ellison to reach first. Tom Belza was next and his line drive to right bounced over the head of Max Walla for an RBI triple.

South Bend added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning as they collected four straight hits with one out off Rattlers starting pitcher Mark Williams. Ender Inciarte, who had been named the Midwest League Player of the Week earlier on Monday, had a single, the third hit of the string, to knock in a run and put runners at the corners. Ellison followed with a two-run double.

The Rattlers (10-8) had an opportunity against South Bend starter John Pedrotty in the top of the sixth. Yadiel Rivera doubled and Walla singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. But, Pedrotty got out of the inning without any damage on a strikeout and an inning ending double play.

The Hawks padded their lead in the bottom of the sixth. Inciarte struck again with an RBI single off Rattlers reliever Seth Lintz. The Rattlers erased Inciarte on caught stealing for the second out of the inning. Then, Ellison cracked his first home run of the season. The solo shot put South Bend up 6-0.

Wisconsin got on the board in the top of the seventh. Greg Hopkins doubled to score Brandon Macias from first base with one out. But, one run was all the Rattlers could manage.

Marc Bourgeois got that run back immediately in the bottom of the seventh with a leadoff homer to right. Later in the frame, Fidel Pena singled to drive in a run. The hit, Pena's fourth of the night, made the score 8-1 in favor of the Silver Hawks. And that was the final score.

Pedrotty pitched six scoreless innings, walked one and struck out five for his first win of the season.

The final game of the series - and the road trip - is Tuesday night at The Cove. David Goforth (2-0, 3.86) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The Silver Hawks send Jesse Darrah (1-1, 5.40) to the hill. Game time is 6:05pm CDT.

Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show beginning at 5:45pm.

HOME RUNS:

SB:

Chris Ellison (1st, 0 on in 6th inning off Seth Lintz, 0 out)

Marc Bourgeios (2nd, 0 on in 7th inning, off Seth Lintz, 2 out)

WP: John Pedrotty (1-0)

LP: Mark Williams (0-1)

TIME: 2:36

ATTN: 704

Wisconsin Box Score

Well the T-Rats were playing so well for so long that they were probably due a game like this, but it's uninspiring all the same. I'm a little bit disappointed that Rattlers won't face the D-Backs first round pick from last year Archie Bradley who is pitching very well as a 19 year old, maybe next time the teams match up. Mark Williams deserved a better fate than 4 ER in his 4 innings, but Seth Lintz pretty much got what he deserved giving up 2 HRs, at least the rest of the BP got the night off.

Yadiel Rivera and Orlando Arcia could make the SS situation very interesting, Rivera had a long cold streak dropping his average from the mid .300s down to the mid .200s, but a 2-4 night with a double hopefully gets him back on track. I'm worried he's going to hit enough, but his power has surprised me, and he should only develop more with age. John Dishon got picked off and Max Walla had an OF assist for the T-Rats.

Wisconsin Play By Play

Dishon usually does very good things on the bases, not so much here.

Wisconsin Top of the 5th

  • Gregory Hopkins flies out to center fielder Ender Inciarte.
    John Dishon walks.
With Tyler Roberts batting, John Dishon advances to 2nd on a balk.
With Tyler Roberts batting, John Dishon picked off and caught stealing 3rd base, pitcher John Pedrotty to shortstop Josh Parr to third baseman Matt Helm to second baseman Fidel Pena.
Tyler Roberts grounds out to first baseman Bobby Stone.

Final: Jackson (Mariners) 6, Huntsville 4 (10 Innings)

Huntsville Box Score

The first thing that struck me about this game was the Stars were outhit 14-5 and only lost by 2 runs, scoring 4, more on that later. Kyle Heckathorn was your starter tonight and went 5.2IP allowing 7H, 2ER, and 1 BB against 8SOs. Kyle threw 99 pitches and 61 for strikes but that's quite a few pitches for so few IP. Of course when you strike out 8 batters and give up 7 hits you're naturally going to throw more pitches, and his K rate has spiked tremendously to start the 2012 campaign, almost a 9.0. I love the K's, he just needs to give up less hits and it's all good, he was pulled for the pitch count after giving up a double and Darren Byrd allowed his inherited runner to score by promptly giving up a triple. Huntsville actually carried the lead into the 7th when Byrd got into more trouble and allowed the tying run to score. Eric Marzec came on in the 9th to strike out the side only to turn around and give up 3 runs in the 10th.

Offensively Lee Haydel was the story as he had the only multi-hit game going 2-4 and a hit a HR, Juan Sanchez also contributed a double. The Stars had no stolen bases though Andy Gonzalez did get caught stealing. Defensively Jason Jarmillo had a PB right before Byrd gave up the triple but both Sanchez and Josh Prince had OF assists.

Huntsville Play By Play

Heckathorn came out dealing...

Jackson Top of the 1st

  • Denny Almonte strikes out swinging.
    Nick Franklin strikes out swinging.
    Joseph Dunigan strikes out swinging.

I love when we get on the board right away.

Huntsville Bottom of the 1st

  • Josh Prince grounds out, second baseman Gabriel Noriega to first baseman Rich Poythress.
Domnit Bolivar singles on a fly ball to left fielder Chris Pettit.
Scooter Gennett singles on a ground ball to right fielder Johermyn Chavez. Domnit Bolivar to 3rd.
Andy Gonzalez grounds out, third baseman Francisco Martinez to first baseman Rich Poythress. Domnit Bolivar scores. Scooter Gennett to 2nd.
Hunter Morris grounds out, second baseman Gabriel Noriega to first baseman Rich Poythress.

A stolen base cost Heckathorn a run here.

Jackson Top of the 2nd

  • Rich Poythress singles on a line drive to center fielder Josh Prince.
    Johermyn Chavez strikes out swinging.
Chris Pettit flies out to center fielder Josh Prince.
With Francisco Martinez batting, Rich Poythress steals (1) 2nd base.
Francisco Martinez singles on a ground ball to right fielder Juan Sanchez. Rich Poythress scores. Francisco Martinez out at 2nd, right fielder Juan Sanchez to first baseman Hunter Morris.

Huntsville wouldn't score again until the bottom of the 10th.

Huntsville Bottom of the 2nd

  • Khris Davis walks.
Jason Jaramillo called out on strikes.
Lee Haydel singles on a line drive to right fielder Johermyn Chavez. Khris Davis to 2nd.
Juan Sanchez doubles (1) on a line drive to left fielder Chris Pettit. Khris Davis scores. Lee Haydel to 3rd.
Josh Prince out on a sacrifice fly to left fielder Chris Pettit. Lee Haydel scores.
Domnit Bolivar flies out to center fielder Denny Almonte

Losing in extras is the devil.

Jackson Top of the 10th

  • Joseph Dunigan strikes out swinging.
    Rich Poythress walks.
Offensive Substitution: Pinch runner Eric Campbell replaces Rich Poythress.
Johermyn Chavez singles on a line drive to center fielder Josh Prince. Eric Campbell to 2nd.

Gabriel Noriega singles on a ground ball to right fielder Juan Sanchez. Francisco Martinez scores. Jesus Sucre to 2nd.
Denny Almonte pops out to third baseman Andy Gonzalez.

and of course as soon as I hit submit the Huntsville story finally pops.

Stars Fall to Generals in Extra Innings.

Huntsville held to just five hits.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.- Unlike Sunday night, the Stars were unable to provide late innings heroics as they fell to the Jackson Generals by a score of 6-4 in extra innings on Monday evening.

In the first inning, the Stars got the scoring started as an RBI groundout by third basemen Andy Gonzalez gave them a 1-0 lead. After Jackson tied the game up in the top of the second, the Stars came back in the bottom of the frame to score two runs on an RBI double by right fielder Juan Sanchez and a sacrifice fly by center fielder Josh Prince. For Sanchez, the double was his first hit with Huntsville after being promoted from High-A Brevard County early in the afternoon.

After the Stars scored three runs in the first two innings to make the score 3-1, they were held scoreless for the next seven innings. However, the Generals went on to score a run in the six inning on a RBI triple from Francisco Martinez and a run in the seventh on RBI single by Rich Poythress to tie the game.

In the 10th inning, the Generals then scored three more runs off of Stars RHP Eric Marzec, who fell to 1-1 on the season with the loss. The Stars were able to muster up a run in the bottom half of the 10th with a solo home run by left-fielder Lee Haydel, who also had his third consecutive multi-hit game.

For the Stars, the loss wasted another strong start by RHP Kyle Heckathorn, who gave up two runs in 5.2 innings while tying his season-high in strikeouts with eight.

For the Generals, RHP Carter Capps avenged a loss in game one of this series by earning the victory with 2.0 innings pitched, improving to 1-1 on the season.

In the final game of this five-game series and a 10-game homestand for the Stars will take place on Tuesday as the Stars will send RHP Josh Stinson (3-0, 2.77 ERA) to face off against LHP Danny Hultzen (1-2, 2.81 ERA). First pitch is at 10:43 AM.

Sounds Suffer 8th Consecutive Loss, Fall 6-3 At Omaha

04/23/2012 10:53 PM ET

Nashville Sounds

PAPILLION, Neb. - The Nashville Sounds were unable to snap their skid on Monday evening at Werner Park, falling 6-3 to the division-leading Omaha Storm Chasers to suffer their eighth consecutive defeat.

Nashville (4-15) has matched the worst start in club history, equaling the 4-15 mark achieved by the 2008 Sounds team. The Sounds went just 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position on the night, leaving 10 runners on base including five in scoring position.

Second baseman Brooks Conrad continued his hot hitting for Nashville in the contest, going 3-for-4 and driving in two of the three Sounds runs on the night. The veteran is batting .393 (11-for-28) with three doubles, two home runs, six RBIs, and five runs scored in nine games since being activated from the disabled list.

Omaha (14-5) grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second inning with three runs off Sounds starter Mark Rogers. Irving Falu put the home team on the board with a one-out, two-run single then Jarrod Dyson (3-for-5) later added an RBI single to make it a 3-0 contest.

The Storm Chasers doubled their advantage in the fifth, batting around against Nashville reliever Brian Baker to plate three more runs to extend the lead to 6-0. Johnny Giovatella delivered the big blow of the frame, crushing a two-run homer to left with two outs for the infielder's third big fly of the year.

Following the homer, Omaha's offense kept it going, loading the bases against Baker on a pair of singles and a walk to set the table for David Lough, who plated the inning's final tally with an RBI infield single. Right-hander Jim Henderson inherited a bases-loaded jam from Baker during the frame but struck out Kevin Kouzmanoff looking to leave all three runners stranded to minimize any further damage.

The Sounds, who were held to a single hit through the first four innings by Storm Chasers left-hander Ryan Verdugo, finally broke through and got onto the scoreboard in the fifth when Edwin Maysonet drew a leadoff walk and later scored on the first of Conrad's two run-scoring hits of the night, an RBI single to left.

Nashville got another run off the bat of Conrad in the seventh to pull within 6-2. Eric Farris led off with a single off Omaha reliever Ethan Hollingsworth then stole second before coming plateward on the veteran infielder's two-out double to left.

The Sounds threatened again in the seventh, loading the bases with one out against Hollingsworth, but were only able to scratch out one run in the frame.

With the bags full of Sounds following singles by Erick Almonte and Taylor Green then Martin Maldonado being hit by a pitch, Eric Farris delivered a line-drive RBI single to center to make it a 6-3 game.

Hollingsworth recovered to induce a foul popout off the bat of Maysonet for the second out before left-hander Brandon Sisk was summoned from the Omaha bullpen to face Logan Schafer. After the Sounds center fielder hit a liner that landed just a matter of inches foul down in the right field corner, Sisk caught Schafer looking at a called third strike to escape the inning with no further damage.

Sisk retired the Sounds in order in the ninth to lock down the victory for Omaha and claim his second save of the year.

Verdugo (2-0) picked up the victory for Omaha by holding the Sounds to one run on three hits over five innings. Nashville was unable to capitalize on five walks drawn from the southpaw.

Rogers (0-2) drew a loss for his second consecutive start for Nashville after allowing three runs on five hits over three innings of work, throwing 76 pitches.

Henderson (2.1 scoreless IP) and Johnnie Lowe (2.0 scoreless IP) offered solid relief effort over the final innings for Nashville to keep the team within striking distance.

The Sounds will look to avoid being swept for the second straight series when the teams wrap up the four-game set with an 11:05 a.m. finale on Tuesday morning. Right-hander Josh Butler (0-3, 4.40) will aim for his first victory of the year when he toes the rubber for the Sounds to face Omaha southpaw Mike Montgomery (0-1, 4.91).

Box Score

I'm guessing the Sounds did not want to have to use Johnnie Lowe tonight but the three pitchers before him were not efficient. The most interesting inefficient pitcher is Mark Rogers. Final line: 3 IP 5 H 3 R 3 ER 2 BB 1 K 3:4 GO:FO 76 Pitches 42 Strikes (55.3%). Mark was so magical in 2010. In 10 MLB innings, he gave up 2 hits and struck out 11. If we had anybody that could fill his spot in the rotation now, I would be in favor of converting him to a reliever immediately. Hopefully he can turn it around a little bit as he stretches out.

If anybody besides Alex Gonzalez gets hurt, the first call up will likely be Brooks Conrad. A walk and three more hits for him tonight, including a 2B. Taylor Green was 1-3 with a BB. Eric Farris had 2 hits and his 4th steal.

Martin Maldonado picked off a Royal at 1B as part of a clean sheet for the D.

Game Log

Mark's bad inning.

Omaha Bottom of the 2nd

Max Ramirez singles on a line drive to left fielder Eric Farris.

David Lough doubles (2) on a line drive to left fielder Eric Farris. Max Ramirez to 3rd.

Kevin Kouzmanoff lines out to second baseman Brooks Conrad.

Irving Falu singles on a line drive to right fielder Caleb Gindl. Max Ramirez scores. David Lough scores.

With Anthony Seratelli batting, Irving Falu steals (4) 2nd base.

Anthony Seratelli walks.

Jarrod Dyson singles on a line drive to left fielder Eric Farris. Irving Falu scores. Anthony Seratelli to 2nd.

Johnny Giavotella grounds into a force out, fielded by third baseman Erick Almonte. Anthony Seratelli out at 3rd. Jarrod Dyson to 2nd. Johnny Giavotella to 1st.

Tony Abreu flies out to center fielder Logan Schafer.

There are a few more big innings to check out. Have fun!

Brevard's skid extends to five

04/23/2012 11:30 PM ET

By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees road woes continued on Monday night as they lost their fifth straight game of their current road trip by losing in 12 innings to the Clearwater Threshers by the score of 8-7 at Bright House Field. The loss dropped the Manatees below the .500 mark for the first time this season.

Brevard County's southpaw starter Jed Bradley finally allowed an earned run as he gave up four earned runs - seven overall - in five innings of work. The 2011 first round pick gave up eight hits, walked just one and struck out five.

The Manatees got on the board first, as Nick Shaw led the game off with a walk and was driven in by a Reggie Keen RBI double. Keen would move to third on a Cody Hawn ground out and then scored on a wild pitch to give Brevard a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, Clearwater scored three times and all of which were unearned runs. With one out and runners on first and second, Clearwater's Jeremy Barnes reached on a fielding error by the shortstop Shaw, which Anthony Hewitt scored on.

Two batters later, Edgar Duran would clear the bases with a two-run triple to give the Threshers a 3-2 lead. The Manatees did get one run back in their next at-bat as Scott Krieger drove in T.J. Mittelstaedt to tie the game.

Bradley ran into trouble again in the bottom of the third as he hit Brandon Tripp with a pitch with one out and then walked Jim Murphy to put to men on. Hewitt would bring them all home to give Clearwater a 6-3 lead, with a three-run homer to right field.

Brevard County was able to tie the game up again at 6-6 after four and a half innings, but the Threshers took the lead back in the bottom of the fifth and Bradley's night would end.

The Manatees would tie the game yet again in the top of the sixth and it started with a one-out double by Hawn. Mike Walker would single to put runners at the corners and then a ground out by Krieger scored Hawn and knotted the game at 7-7.

Brevard County would only get one runner on base between the seventh and ninth innings as the game stretched into extra innings. Greg Holle and Alan Williams combined to throw five scoreless innings in relief of Bradley to stifle Clearwater.

The 'Tees best chance to take the lead was the top of the 12th as Shea Vucinich and Adam Weisenburger's back-to-back one-out singles put two men on, but Franklin Romero Jr. and Shaw would strike out to end the Brevard County threat.

In the bottom of the inning, Connor Whalen - who already worked a scoreless 11th - came out to face the Threshers in the 12th. He gave up back-to-back singles to lead off the inning and then walked Brandon Tripp to load the bases. Murphy then stepped up and singled to right to win it for the Threshers.

While the 'Tees did rack up ten hits and draw seven walks, they went just 3-for-18 with runners in scoring position. Brevard County left 12 men on base and also struck out 13 times.

Krieger and Weisenburger had two hits each, while Walker went 1-for-3 and reached three times via the walk. (More on this below)

The Manatees will try and avoid a winless six-game road trip as they take on the Threshers in the series finale tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m.

Brevard County will send Hiram Burgos (0-0, 1.35) to the bump to try and stop their slump. Clearwater will counter with lefty Adam Morgan (0-1, 4.86). The Phillies selected Morgan in the third round of the 2011 draft out of the University of Alabama.

Box Score

I went to the Brewers game tonight so I did not see Jed Bradley's line until SessileFielder tweeted it. His start was early 2011 Grenike-esque. Obviously not Jed's best, but somewhat surprisingly, there were signs of effectiveness. He finished at 5 IP 8 H 7 R 4 ER 1 BB 5 K 1 HR 1 HBP 9:0 GO:FO. Chalk it up to him just being a little off and expect more of the very good Bradley in his next start. Folk rock band Holle and Williams (Greg and Alan) played the 5 innings after Bradley finished and were fantastic. It impresses me that the lefty Williams was able to go 3 full innings with such dominance. Connor Whalen allowed the walk-off.

It was a group effort to score the 7 Manatee runs. T.J. Mittelstaedt (1-4 2B 2 BB) and Michael Walker (1-3 3 BB SB) showed plus plate discipline. Those boys each have impressive OBP's (Mittelstaedt .391, Walker .371) thus far. Walker's is particularly impressive because it is about 140 points above his batting average. Scott Kreiger and Adam Weisenburger each had 2 hits.

Wow, first two men were out on groundouts, then the three-run rally started with a bunt. After the HR, a walk amongst three ground ball singles. That seems like some bad luck, and it's surprising that Mike Guerrero even had Jim Henderson ready to come in at that point. That can't be a fun Nashville clubhouse right now.
