Dumb questions about my smart phone.

Nottso

I've gone all high tech and stuff. I have a Samsung Stratosphere 4G-LTE with Verizon as my carrier. It has been immensely helpful with our small business stuff but I'd like to start making use of some of the other features that come with all this new technology. I have, and will have, many questions that I'm hoping some of you will be able to help me with. There are 2 that come to mind right off.

1) Charter Cable is my TV/Internet/home phone service provider and I have their "Sports View Plus" package which allows me to listen to Game Day Audio for free on my laptop. I can listen to Game Day Audio on the laptop, but can I also do it on my phone and if so, does anyone know how I'd go about it? Do I need to find an app for it or something?

2) This one is downright embarrassing. I'll use the "text the booth" feature on the Brewers telecasts as an example. They say "text 234234, keyword Brewers, to send us your questions". Okay, fine, but where do I put said keyword? Is it the first word inside the body of the text message, or do I perhaps start the body of the text with "keyword brewers", or maybe "keyword=brewers", or do I send the text to "234234brewers" to begin with, or what?

Thanks in advance for your help. The second one really makes me feel like an idiot.

My guess would be that you can't listen to the games on your phone through the Charter Sports Package. There is a Charter app (at least on my phone) but I doubt you'd be able to stream the games.

As for your other question. Yes, you type the keyword as the first word in the body of the text. 234234 is the number you send the text to.

One app I will suggest you get is the Watch ESPN app. It's available for free and as a Charter customer you'll be able to watch all the ESPN programming on your phone.

you have to pay to get the mlb audio. you cannot listen to live sporting events on say wtmj's website. not sure how much the audio package would be. also if you live within a certain distance of milwaukee, you couldn't listen to the mlb.com audio for the brewers i believe. I know thats how the extra innings on tv worked.

FWIW, I have a Motorola Photon and my MLB.TV premium subscription lets me listen to the games on the radio. However, the radio broadcasts are about 75% buffering even when I have ~8MBPS 4G coverage. I think this is an app-specific issue, because I don't have problems streaming TV and Sports with the Veetle app.

If you get free gameday audio through MLB, you can try downloading at-bat lite (the free version of at-bat) and then entering your info. By entering my info, it could check that I am a subscriber to MLB.tv and give me the audio access. I'm assuming you have MLB audio log-in info from your laptop, so it couldn't hurt to just try entering that info to your at-bat lite app. In the past I think subscribing to audio gave you audio rights on your phone, but I'm not sure because this is my first real smartphone.

I thought that the full At Bat App was free, but according to the MLB.TV topic, it's only free with MLB.TV.

You're definitely entitled to the broadcast on all of your devices. If nothing else, you should be able to listen through your web browser.

If it turns out that a paid app gives you the best experience, it might be worth it. Definitely try the lite version first. :)

EDIT: I'll re-post this link just in case it has anything useful.

My log-in on a computer is my Charter log-in. At Bat Lite is having none of that. I tried going through the web browser, but it says "this application does not support Android devices with Flash Player" or "this application is not supported by Android devices with Flash Player" or something along those lines.

If this becomes a deal where a phone call is involved there will be consequences and repercussions.

The only way that I know of to stream MLB audio or video on a phone is with the MLB specific App. It works great for me with 4G LTE and even with Verizon's 3G. I use the At-Bat Lite app, as that was instructed when I purchased MLB.TV.

You should not be able to stream it through your phone's web browser, though I admit there may be a way to do it. Its just probably not worth the effort since the interface is much better in the App.

Same here. This year I have the mlb.tv premium package, but in previous years I just bought the MLB At Bat app for my phone for $14.99 for the whole season and you get home and away audio feed for every game. Its great (but upgrading this year to the full mlb.tv premium package has been ever better!)

If it seems to me that a single Gameday Audio subscription should work on a desktop, laptop or mobile device...I'm just really naive, right?

With the mlb.tv package I have you can do this. Not sure if you can if you get just the audio package...

My audio subscription is part of Charter's Sports View Plus package. It consists of Gameday Audio, NHL Premium, Nascar Track Pass, Fox Sports, ESPN 3, and associated programming on the TV. To access Gameday Audio, I go to charter.net (their home page) scroll down to Sports View Plus, then click in the MLB icon. That takes me to the regular Gameday log-in screen except it's within a Charter page (if that makes sense). Then to log in, I use my email address and its password. I didn't get any separate MLB password.

I did create an MLB.com account and attempted to log in with that username and password just as above, but no dice.

The MLB App is not linked to the Charter package it is linked to a MLB.TV subscription If you don't have one you won't be able to get access to the games through your phone. If there is a Charter app which there maybe you could use that. No idea if they would have the Sports View Plus package on it or not. Since the way you are describing how you get into the gameday it sounds like it is a Charter only thing which will not allow you to get access to the MLB at bat app.

You don't necessarily need an mlb.tv account to listen to game audio on your phone...just the MLB At Bat 12 app, which is $14.99

Yeah. But if I already paid $19.99 or whatever for Gameday Audio, why do I need to pay again for phone access to audio?

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Agreed. That's just silly. And because of that stupid stipulation, I was going to have to pay for the At Bat twice (2 devices) and the Gameday Audio once, so I opted to just go all the way with the premium package. It's absurd that its set up this way

EDIT: sorry, I missed that you already have gameday audio package for your laptop. And I totally agree that it stinks they don't allow you to use it on more than one device (besides other computers)

I paid for full MLB At Bat this year, after getting the PC version the last couple years. I'm disappointed.... the audio is terrible. Sounds like its playing slower so everyone is much lower volume.

Have you tried the "switch to another feed" button? That works for me when that happens
