Earlier this week he PHs for the SS with none on the bench, and now with Izturis available he lets Gonzalez fly out to the infield for the 3rd time of the game.

Are you advocating a Izturis pinch-hit opportunity with the game on the line? I would've much rather seen George, hell even Gomez.

I can't see RR pinch-hitting Gonzalez for Izturis in the 9th in the 1 run game without being rightfully grilled for it.

No, I already said it should have been Kottaras, Izturis could have played SS on defense for the rest of the game. Earlier this week he used Kottaras in a situation that would have forced Ramirez to play SS.

Gotcha, my bad, that makes a lot of sense. If you're going to PH George for Lucroy last week, it doesn't make a lot of sense not to do it for Gonzalez.

I'm sure he was probably concerned if the pitchers spot came up and they still hadn't scored, but they still had Ishikawa available if it came to that.

I wondered about pinch hitting Kottaras for Gonzalez while at the game, but then remembered either Ishikawa or Izturis would have to hit in the pitchers spot. I'd probably rather have Gonzalez hit than either of those guys in a tight spot, not that any of those are prime options. If there would have been two outs I have no doubt we'd have seen Kottaras hit for Gonzalez, but RR rolled the dice on Gonzalez and lost.

The team has played poorly and is still near .500 even though they have played a number of good teams, still not worried at all. A dose of crappy teams and the 3/4 hitters warming up is likely to make the team look good again and all the worries will be for naught. Seems like every single year we start slow in April this same topic comes up and the over-reactors look foolish almost every single year.

Ya those three need to start stepping up and I'm confident they will. ARam is notorious for starting slow so I'm giving him a break. I also agree that I think this team will be fine. We have some guys stepping up now and helping this team out, we just need our studs to get back to being what they usually are.
