Thoughts on trade market this year

With the extra wild card spots keeping more teams in the race longer, as well as the glut of starting pithing reaching free agency after this season, I could see this either being a very dead or potentially interesting trade market. Any thoughts?

One observation, with all that pitching out there, some big prospects/bats could be on the move for a top-flight starter rental.

I'd say that if we dangled Greinke, Marcum, Wolf and K-Rod to teams with playoff aspirations, we'd get a good return.

The extra wild card spot will limit the amount of sellers (supply) while increasing the number of teams who think they have a shot at the playoffs (demand), so the price could go up. Plus, winning the division means a lot more now, since the wild card teams have a one-game playoff, so even division leaders may pay up more to upgrade their team.

Melvin's track record plus the addition of another wild card spot probably means that there is zero chance we'll be sellers this year, but in my opinion this would sure be a good year for the Brewers to have a quick trigger finger if they're not near the top of the division come trade deadline.

I think with the new rules concerning compensation for losing free agents that we'll see a lot more trades. Should be fun.

I was always unsure on this. The New Rules kick in for this upcoming season?

When is the target date for the for the universal draft that Selig had indicated was absolutely going to happen? I was under the impression that neither were a sure thing for a couple of years.

Yes, new compensation is in effect for this year. Actually, new rules were in effect for this past off-season but they were special for that off-season only.
This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.
