It would've been between Appel and Correa for me. That being said, it is still surprising.

Why is Appel sliding?

Apparently Boras said if he didn't get #1 money, he wouldn't hesitate to go back to school. With the Astros wanting Correa and the Twins wanting Buxton, he fell past the top 2 and other teams might be scared because of the slot money.

Yes, I don't expect we're going to enjoy playing the Pirates four years from now.

Did you see supposed stud pitcher Stetson Allie from last years draft is no longer pitiching?

Pittsburgh has a pretty strong system even with Allie, Sanchez, and Alvarez not meeting expectations, I have a very difficult time dismissing them even with what's happened.

Backflips are apparently the new way to show your agility. Not bad for a a guy Hawkins' size. I don't know much about any of these players at this point, but I do enjoy watching the draft to learn.

@Haudricourt: Zack Greinke in #Brewers draft room. They told him he had to sign in and before he knew it he had agreed to a five-year extension.

Glad they still let him come watch even if he likely won't be around for long.

Yeah, the Pirates have been building the proper way (imo) for a few seasons now. Basically since Huntington took the reins at GM.

Does anybody think the Pirates will have a hard time signing Appel and he will just go back to Stanford for another year? I know that's rare (and probably ill-advised) but it has happened before and given the new soft-slotting seems more likely than in the past.
