Once again this season, Brevard does not have its own audio coverage. It appears two teams in the Manatees North Division (within which the majority of games are played) have audio, and all six teams in the South Division have audio (at least for their home games), so there will be opportunities to listen to approx. 70% or Brevard's games this season, just all from the opponent's perspective. There are no Florida State League games on MiLB.TV this year.

Final: Wisconsin 4, Peoria (Cubs) 3

Wisconsin Box Score

The Wisconsin let the game get pretty exciting in the 9th but came through to pull out another victory today. David Goforth had a solid start going 4IP 4H 2ER 2BB 3K 1HR. Not sure how much I like the move of stretching Goforth out. The power pitcher has only 4 k’s in his first 9 IP after racking up 42k’s in 40.2IP as a reliever last year with Helena. With that said the reports about him sitting in the mid 90's and touching 98mph is very impressive. Chad Pierce the Fond du Lac native had another impressive outing in his “homecoming” debut. He went 4IP 2H 0R 2BB 5K. Referred to as a bulldog on the mound, Pierce has allowed 3H 4BB 0R while racking 10k’s in his first 7IP. Seth Harvey entered the game with the save opportunity in the 9th and got the first two batters out before a walk, line drive, and groundball single tied the game. He got out of the inning with no further damage and picked up the BS & W.

Offensively the T-Rats did most of their damage coming off two first inning doubles by Jason Rogers and Ben McMahan, and a RBI groundout by Rafael Neda. Then the 9th inning fireworks came after a two out single by Yadiel Rivera followed by the walk-off double by John Dishon to win the game! Yadiel Rivera was the only T-Rat with multiple hits (2-4). Greg Hopkins and Carlos George were the only other T-Rats to record a hit.

Brevard County 1 Dunedin (Blue Jays) 0

Box Score

Pitching was the story on both sides. No team scored until the final play of the game. Austin Ross started for the Manatees, went 5 innings and dominated. Final line: 5 IP 2 H 0 R 0 ER 1 BB 4 K 1 HBP 7:2 GO:FO. That is a pretty nice ratio for Ross who gave up 1.1 HR/9 in 63 2/3 IP for the Manatees in 2011. Brian Garman proved equally dominant: 3 IP 1 H 0 R 0 ER 0 BB 2 K 2 HBP 1:3 GO:FO. Casey Medlen finished and impressively scavenged the win allowing 1 H and notching 1 K.

A clean sheet for the D tonight including an outfield assist from LF Juan Sanchez and 3 turned double plays.

Another Dunedin starter flustered the hitters as Sam Dyson looked strong. A 4th rounder in 2010, he only made is professional debut this season after a TJ surgery. The hitters had the last laugh as they walked off in bottom of the 9th. Leadoff man, and starting SS, Nick Shaw went 2-3 with a huge double in the ninth to start the winning rally. T.J. Mittelstaedt had a bunt single and steal. After a Cody Hawn short (apparently?) fly out, Miguel Velezquez was intentionally walked to load the bases. Michael Walker stepped up and hit a ball deep enough for Shaw to score on the tag. Insanity ensued...

One last thing about the BC game, T.J. Mittelstaedt started at 3B. Somewhat surprised, I checked his positions played over the years.

2010: 27 at 3B, 8 at 2B, 6 in RF, 4 in LF

2011: 65 in LF, 27 at 2B, 15 in RF, 2 at P

2012: 5 in LF, 2 at 3B, 1 at 2B

T.J. is obviously versatile. What the heck is going to happen when Nick Ramirez needs to be activated?

Nashville 9 New Orleans (Marlins) 5

Sounds Defeat Zephyrs For First Home Win

04/14/2012 9:55 PM ET

Nashville Sounds

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Caleb Gindl's three-run double in the bottom of the fourth inning gave Nashville the lead for good en route to a 9-5 victory over the visiting New Orleans Zephyrs on Saturday evening at Greer Stadium.

The Sounds (3-7) snapped a two-game skid and picked up their first home victory of the year despite being out-hit, 13-7, in the contest. The loss snapped a PCL-best five-game winning streak for the Z's.

Martin Maldonado, who homered, and Edwin Maysonet each had two hits to join Gindl in powering the Sounds' offense in the win.

New Orleans got off to a quick start against Sounds starter Seth McClung, plating a pair of runs in the top of the first inning during a 39-pitch frame for the right-hander.

Kevin Mattison and Donovan Solano opened the contest with back-to-back doubles to put the visitors on the board. After the next two batters were retired, Bryan Petersen hit a dribbler up the third base line for a two-out RBI infield single that upped the Z's lead to 2-0.

Nashville rallied to take a 4-2 lead in the home half of the second inning in an error-filled frame for the Zephyrs.

After Taylor Green was hit by a J.D. Martin pitch to open the inning, Maldonado doubled to left, where Petersen misplayed the ball and allowed Green to score. On the relay throw home, shortstop Gil Velazquez's toss was off-line and eluded catcher Clint Sammons to allow Maldonado to reach third.

Following a Hainley Statia strikeout, Corey Patterson hit a grounder to second against a drawn-in infield and Solano, the second baseman, threw home to catch Maldonado in a rundown. The Sounds' catcher was ultimately awarded home plate on an obstruction call after colliding with Sammons in the basepaths during the rundown, tying the score at 2-2.

Maysonet (2-for-3) gave the Sounds their first lead of the series when he followed with an RBI triple down the right field line that dropped just out of the reach of a diving Scott Cousins. McClung helped his own cause and drove in the fourth Nashville run of the frame with a line-drive sacrifice fly to center that brought home Maysonet for a 4-2 lead.

New Orleans tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the fourth on Sammons' bases-loaded, two-run single to right off McClung, who took a no-decision for the Sounds after allowing four runs on seven hits in four innings of work.

The Sounds reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth when they loaded the bases against Martin and Gindl unloaded them with a two-out, bases-clearing double to right that put the home team in front by a 7-4 margin.

Martin (0-2) took the loss for the Z's after giving up seven runs (five earned) on six hits with four strikeouts in his four innings of action.

Beau Jones took over on the New Orleans hill in the fifth and the Sounds immediately added to their advantage against him. After Green walked to open the inning, Maldonado (2-for-4) drove a 1-0 Jones offering over the wall in left for his second home run of the year, making it a 9-4 game.

New Orleans got a run back in the eighth against Donovan Hand when Petersen doubled and later scored on a Velazquez groundout.

Amaury Rivas (1-0) picked up the win in relief for the Sounds after working two scoreless frames behind McClung.

Mike McClendon closed out the victory with a scoreless ninth for Nashville.

The teams continue the series with a 2:05 p.m. matinee on Sunday afternoon. Right-hander Wily Peralta (0-1, 2.45), the Brewers' top prospect, makes his first home start of the season for the Sounds. New Orleans will send right-hander Alex Sanabia (1-0, 0.64) to the hill in a rematch of the Opening Night pitching matchup on April 7th in New Orleans.

Box Score

This game was ugly for New Orleans. They committed 5 errors, hit two batters and gave up 6 XBH's to the Sounds. So despite only 7 Nashville hits and 1 walk, the Zephyrs gave up 9 (7 ER) runs. On offense, they rapped out 13 hits, walked twice, but only scored 5 runs.

Martin Maldonado hit his second homer in 3 games and also doubled. Just look at his long minor league career. Edwin Maysonet tripled and doubled. Logan Schafer was on twice with a double and a HBP. Caleb Gindl's damage to hit ratio was plus with 3 RBI and just one hit, a double. Taylor Green had a BB and HBP. He came around to score both times.

Gindl gunned down a runner at 2nd as part of another clean sheet for an affiliate D tonight.

Seth McClung started. He was generally ineffective. Seth was hit hard but he did not walk anyone unintentionally. Amaury Rivas played long man and earned a win with 2 scoreless. Mike McClendon finished as 5 pitchers saw action for the Sounds.

Brevard blanks Blue Jays to avoid sweep

04/14/2012 10:08 PM ET

By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees

VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees avoided a sweep at the hands of the Dunedin Blue Jays thanks to a 1-0 win on Saturday night at Space Coast Stadium. Mike Walker's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth won it for the 'Tees.

Nick Shaw began the ninth inning by legging out a double to shallow right field. T.J. Mittelstaedt was then looking to sacrifice Shaw over with a bunt and he laid down a beauty that not only moved over Shaw, but Mittelstaedt was able beat the throw to put runners at the corners with no outs.

Cody Hawn would then fly out to right field but it was too shallow for Shaw to tag up. Dunedin then intentionally walked Miguel Velazquez to set up the double play; they also brought in a fifth infielder to try and cut the run off at home.

Walker stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and one out and drove a ball to deep center that easily scored Shaw and gave the Manatees the victory.

Brevard County's (6-3) pitching staff once again kept the 'Tees in the game as Dunedin (7-2) could only muster four hits on the evening.

Starting pitcher Austin Ross threw five innings and allowed just two hits and a walk, while striking out four. Brian Garman relieved Ross in the sixth and ran into some trouble from the start as he hit the first two batters he faced, but was able to get out of the jam unscathed.

Casey Medlen pitched a scoreless ninth as Brevard County won its second 1-0 game already this season. The win puts the 'Tees within a game of the first-place Blue Jays for the North division lead.

Brevard County will remain at home for a three-game set with the Lakeland Flying Tigers beginning at 5:05 p.m. on Sunday. The Manatees swept the Flying Tigers in a three-game series in Lakeland earlier in the week.

Taylor Jungmann (2-0, 3.09) will get the start for the Manatees and the Flying Tigers will counter with Shawn Teufel (0-1, 6.75).

Final Huntsville 2 Birmingham (White Sox) 5

Huntsville Boxscore

Stars banged out 10 hits however were unable to convert hits into runs. The Stars only had one extra base hit which was off a Josh Prince triple to start out the game. Khris Davis continued to stay hot going 2-4. Jason Jaramillo and Andy Gonzalez each produced two hit games while Jaramillo also produced one of the two RBI’s for the Stars. Domnit Bolivar finished the game 1-2 with a BB, Sac Fly and a RBI.

Pitching was not great tonight. R.J. Seidel started the game and had a line of 4IP 4H 3R 2ER 2BB 2K’S. After being extremely productive in 41G and 64IP in 2011, Darren Byrd had a rough spring and has struggled with control in his last 2 appearances. His line tonight was 2IP 2H 2ER 4BB 1K. Hopefully he can quickly get back to 2011 form. Roque Mercedes finished off the game with 2IP 2H 1ER 2BB 2K with a wild pitch.

Play by Play

Not much for excitement in this game, however this caught my eye a bit. Nice pickle it sounds like to get out of the jam.

Birmingham Bottom of the 5th

•Justin Greene walks.

•With Drew Garcia batting, Justin Greene steals (4) 2nd base.

•Drew Garcia flies out to left fielder Khris Davis.

Hernandez pitches Barons to series victory over Stars

Pedro Hernandez allowed one run over 6.0 innings of work, picking up the first win for a Barons starting pitcher this season as the Barons defeated the Huntsville Stars 6-2 in front of 5,759 fans at Regions Park.

Jose Martinez and Damaso Espino were the offensive stars for the Barons driving in a combined five runs and collecting four hits between them. Martinez finished 1-for-3 with three RBI while Espino went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Trailing 1-0 in the second, Jared Mitchell put the Barons on the board in the bottom half of the inning, tripling in Jon Gilmore and scoring on a Martinez groundout for an early 2-1 lead.

The lead increased to 3-1 in the fourth as Espino singled in Jon Gilmore. The Barons would tack on two more in the sixth as Martinez doubled in Gilmore and Jared Mitchell for a 5-1 lead.

Espino delivered again in the eighth, blooping a single to left to score Mitchell and giving the Barons a 6-1 lead.

With the win, the Barons won their first series of the season and improved to 4-6 in the process.

Dishon delivers double in ninth for Rattlers win

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI - John Dishon's two-out, RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning scored Yadiel Rivera from first base to give the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers a 4-3 victory over the Peoria Chiefs on Saturday afternoon on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The Rattlers took a 3-2 lead into the top of the ninth, but the Chiefs scored a run in their last at bat to set the stage for Dishon's big hit.

Wisconsin (5-4) continued their trend of early runs by plating three in the bottom of the first inning against Chiefs starter Ben Wells. Chadwin Stang was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a ground out. Jason Rogers knocked in Stang with a ground rule double. Wells would hit Greg Hopkins to put two runners on base and Ben McMahan cashed in Rogers with another double. Hopkins crossed home plate on an RBI grounder by Rafael Neda.

The Rattlers have scored in the first inning in four straight games and in seven of the first nine games of the 2012 season.

Peoria (3-6) got on the board against Wisconsin starter David Goforth in the top of the third. Zeke DeVoss hit a two-run line drive homer that just cleared the 16' high wall in left field to leave the Rattlers with a one run lead.

Goforth struck out three and walked two over four innings and turned the ball over to Chad Pierce for the fifth inning. The Fond du Lac native gave up a pair of walks, a pair of hits, and struck out five over four scoreless innings. Pierce was in line for his first win of the season, until there were two outs in the top of the ninth.

Seth Harvey, who picked up the save in Thursday's win over the Chiefs, retired the first two batters in the top of the ninth. But, a walk and a single put runners on first and second for DeVoss. The Chiefs second baseman singled to center to send the tying run home and also move the potential go ahead run to third for Wes Darvill. Harvey deflected a grounder off the bat of Darvill to short and Rivera made a quick throw that barely got Darvill at first for the final out.

The game appeared to be heading to extra innings as Chiefs reliever Kyler Burke retired the first two Rattlers in the bottom of the ninth. Then, Rivera singled to get the game to Dishon.

Dishon had entered the game as a defensive replacement in the top of the eighth inning and was placed in the ninth spot in the order. He drilled a 1-1 pitch to the gap in left-center and Rivera raced home with the winning run.

The final game of the series is Sunday afternoon at 1:05pm. Andy Moye (0-0, 0.00) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Willengton Cruz (0-2, 12.46) is set to start for the Chiefs.

I realize he may not project to be a star or anything, but I have a hard time not liking Dishon. He was frequently a key player for Helena last season.

Zeke DeVoss

I'm not sure MiLB even needs to hold the name-madness tourney (or whatever it's called). That's gotta be it.
