Why is Estrada warming up and not Ax or Veras? Roenicke makes no sense sometimes. Might've been wise to not push it and give K-Rod the day off here too. Veras would've been fine in this situation.

I'm wondering if he was getting Estrada warm in case the Cubs tied it. Then Estrada could go multiple innings if it went to extras. Just a guess.

Not sure why Lucroy isn't in the game catching right now. He always was in these situations last year.

Maybe RR peruses the IGTs and has considered the frequent complaints that move would bring

Seriously, however, I think a day off should be a day off so I'm glad to see it. I also like giving Kottaras some time because I think he's shown he's up to it. Lucroy isn't a significant upgrade defensively, is he? I'm actually asking because that's my sense, but that's not something I pay a lot of attention to.

You may run like Mays...

Yes, he's a pretty significant upgrade. Which is why he always replaced Kottaras late in games last year. Kottaras can't throw out runners and often struggles to block pitches. That's why Lucroy would come in to catch K-Rod and Ax.

Is it too early to wonder if whoever beats up on the Cubs the most is going to make the playoffs, as when the Crew won the wildcard largely thanks to destroying the Pirates?

I believe this 10 straight wins against the Cubs? So, fair question.

[Edit: That's not even close to right, not sure where I had heard that.]

Also, I think this marks 4 straight wins over Dempster.
