2012-04-10 Brewers (Narveson) at Cubs (Maholm), 7:05 PM CDT [Brewers win, 7-4]

Well I thought it was a sweet slide and he was actually safe. I also thought he was safe in live-action so it's not like it was really bang-bang. He should've been called safe and it was a blown call IMO.
This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

This isn't bar league softball where the throw beats the runner so he should be out. If the runner is safe, regardless of when the ball got there the runner should be called safe. Of course this rarely happens. Just like when the SS is in the vicinity of second base on the double play they still call the runner out

He deserved to be out, I dont care that there was no tag. What was Lucroy looking at, fastball right down the middle

Then doesn't Gomez deserve to be out at the plate since the throw beat him? If the guy's safe, he should be safe. I don't care if the ball beats him or not.

Not the same, "the throw beat him" means the tag was down before the runner got there, not just the ball is in the defenders glove before the runner got there.

I'd rather the ump just just go ahead and follow the rules personally.

It was clearly a blown call technically, but it was just such an awkward play he almost gave up then decided to slide short then stand up...it didnt look like he intentionally did a sneaky short slide, he just accidentally was safe. So therefore, based solely on principal/style points I have no problem with the ump calling him out.

That basically is the rule, everyone in the league knows it and it is always called like that when the ball beats the runner by 4 steps. No one has a problem with it.

Eh, I don't really care. In the end, the Brewers get just as many calls in this manner as their opponents do over a 162-game schedule, so it really doesn't matter one way or another. So if there are more sweet defensive plays made on "tag" outs and double plays that are borderline calls, that's fine by me.

On another note, I think Gomez just about had a foot in the right-handed batters box when he tried to bunt there

Ha...I have Gameday up, and they have a new feature where they give a "scouting report" during ABs. During DeWitt's AB, the Scout said, "Marco Estrada is trying to tie up Blake DeWitt with fastballs inside, where he is batting .333 this season, compared to .000 overall." So...he somehow has a hit without getting a hit? I see....

So MLB Gameday has these little "scout" observations every so often. During DeWitt's AB, it said, "Marco Estrada is trying to tie up Blake DeWitt with fastballs inside, where DeWitt is hitting .333 compared to .000 overall."

This makes no sense, right?

EDIT: DRAT!

Seems like a bad strategy too on Estrada's part :laughing
