Brevard County: RHP Taylor Jungmann at Lakeland (Tigers), 5:30 PM gametime

Sorry, no audio for this series.

Once again this season, Brevard does not have its own audio coverage. It appears two teams in the Manatees North Division (within which the majority of games are played) have audio, and all six teams in the South Division have audio (at least for their home games), so there will be opportunities to listen to approx. 70% or Brevard's games this season, just all from the opponent's perspective. There are no Florida State League games on MiLB.TV this year.

**********

Wisconsin: RHP Andy Moye at Burlington (Athletics), 6:10 PM pre-game, 6:30 gametime; expect RHP Jacob Barnes to see multiple innings as part of a tandem effort

Chris Mehring is back to do his customary fantastic work as the Voice of the Rattlers. Follow him on Twitter @CMehring; we'll link to Chris' infamous blog often -- Rattler Radio.

MiLB.TV -- for subscribers; Wisconsin is one of only two (Great Lakes) Midwest League clubs that have all their home games available via MiLB.TV; Chris' call provides the audio. So for the $39.95 season-long package, fans in Brewer Nation can watch all Sounds games, all Timber Rattlers home games, and 24 Stars' road games (one Helena series this summer, too).

I should have mentioned this yesterday for you Twitter type people as Chris talked about it literally a half a dozen times but Chadwin Stang is now active on Twitter. The link is right at the top of yesterday's game notes.

And no, I don't have an account or follow anyone on Twitter.

I'll do the usual.

I thought Arnett was a reliever in spring training? I honestly wasn't paying that close of attention, March was pretty busy for me.

Final: Burlington (A's) 5, Wisconsin 1

Wisconsin Box Score

Andrew Moye got the start tonight and only went 3IP with 1H, 2BB and 3SOs. Jacob Barnes followed and was pitching well until the 6th when a walk, balk, and stolen base moved a runner to 3rd and then he gave up a triple and was pulled in favor Seth Lintz. Jacob's final line was 2.1IP, 2H, 2ER, 2BB, and 0SO. Lintz couldn't pickup Moye and then got into his own trouble in the 7th, his final line 1IP , 1H, 3R, 2ER, and 3BB. Stephen Peterson came on in relief of Lintz, did a nice job limiting the damage and finished the game going 1.2IP with 2H, 1BB, and 1SO.

In addition to the extra bases the pitchers gave away the Rattlers also had 3 errors, 2 were fielding errors from Carlos George, and allowed 2 stolen bases which has been a common theme against the T-Rats as a Brewer's affiliate. The Rattler hitters only managed 2 hits, but Chadwin Stang did hit a 2B. On the bright side the offense did draw 9(!) walks, Jason Rogers and Parker Berberet both drew 2 a piece. Ben McMahan also had an outfield assist on a rare double play to end the 6th.

Burlington keeps Wisconsin from converting opportunities

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

BURLINGTON, IA - The Burlington Bees defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 5-1 on a cool Tuesday evening at Community Field. The Rattlers had plenty of chances, but could not cash in for a big inning. Four Burlington pitchers allowed two hits and worked around nine walks with 13 strikeouts to end the Rattlers two game winning streak.

The Rattlers (2-3) had base runners on in all but one of the five innings worked by Burlington starting pitcher Sean Murphy. But, Wisconsin could not collect the key hit that they needed to go in front of the Bees.

Rattlers starting pitcher Andy Moye allowed one hit over three innings and struck out three.

Burlington (3-2) broke the scoreless tie with three runs in the sixth inning against Jacob Barnes and the Rattlers made some mistakes along the way.

Barnes walked Sean Jamieson on a 3-2 pitch to start the inning and committed a balk to move him to second base. One out later, Jamieson broke for third and Rafael Neda's throw appeared to beat the runner for the second out. But, Jamieson was ruled safe. Dusty Robinson followed with an RBI triple and the Bees were up 1-0.

Seth Lintz came on in relief of Barnes and walked the first batter he faced. Royce Consigli was next and - with the runner from first on the move - he hit a grounder to second that Carlos George booted for an error and a run scored. Chad Lewis extended the lead to 3-0 with an RBI single.

The inning could have been much worse, but the Rattlers turned an unconventional inning ending double play. Chi Fang Pan sent a fly ball to shallow left near the left field line as Consigli took off for third base. Ben McMahan raced over and looked like he would make the catch. Consigli headed back to second, but McMahan dropped the ball just inside the foul line. He alertly threw to third for the force on Consigli and Brandon Macias quickly threw to second to beat Lewis for a 7-5-4 double play.

It took a play that was almost as confusing for the Timber Rattlers to score a run in the top of the seventh.

Wisconsin had runners at first and second with two outs and George at the plate. George swung and missed at strike three, but the ball popped away from Bees catcher John Nester. Nester's throw to first to retire George was wild and Macias, the runner at second when the play started, raced home to cut the lead to 3-1.

But, Burlington answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh. Lintz walked the first batter, hit the second batter, and a sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position. An error on a grounder to third was missed by Macias for an error to let in the first run of the frame. Lintz walked the next batter to load the bases.

Stephen Peterson came on and gave up an RBI single to Bobby Crocker before getting the final five outs.

Chadwin Stang had a double in the third and Macias had a single in the seventh to account for the only two Timber Rattlers hits of the night. Wisconsin stranded ten runners in the game and was 0-for-15 with runners in scoring position.

Game three of the series at Burlington is Wednesday night at Community Field. Matt Miller (0-1, 9.00) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Burlington has Drew Granier (0-0, 2.25) is set to start for the Bees. Game time is 6:30pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:10pm.

WP: Brent Powers (2-0)

LP: Jacob Barnes (0-1)

BC rallies to win third straight

04/10/2012 9:48 PM ET

By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees rallied from a 3-0 deficit as they defeated the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 4-3 on Tuesday night at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland.

Despite giving up three runs in the first three innings, 2011 first round pick Taylor Jungmann earned his second professional victory. The righty settled down and retired 11 of the last 13 batters he faced. He went 6 2/3 innings and allowed eight hits, while striking out four and walking one.

A three-run fourth tied the game for the 'Tees as T.J. Mittelstaedt led the inning off with a single then Cody Hawn hit a two-run homer, his second of the season, to cut the Lakeland lead to 3-2.

Following Hawn's homer, Miguel Velazquez tripled and scored on Mike Walker single to tie the game at 3-3.

Brevard County would score what would be the game-winning run in the top of the fifth. Adam Weisenburger would lead off the inning by reaching base on an error. Juan Sanchez would follow with a walk and then Nick Shaw singled to load the bases.

That would chase Lakeland starter Shawn Teufel as the Flying Tigers brought Tyler Clark in from the bullpen. Clark would first face Mittlestaedt who hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Weisenburger and give Brevard County a 4-3 lead.

Hawn would then draw a walk to load the bases, but the Manatees were unable to do anymore damage as Velazquez and Walker both struck out to end the inning.

Thomas Keeling would come in for Jungmann with two outs in the seventh and was perfect in 1 1/3 innings of work with two strikeouts. Casey Medlen would shut the door in the ninth with a one-two-three innings and his third consecutive save.

Brevard County will go for the sweep of the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. Jimmy Nelson (0-0, 1.80 ERA) will get his second start of the season for the 'Tees. Lakeland will counter with Kevin Eichhorn (0-0, 0.00 ERA).

Box Score

Taylor Jungmann was shaky but solid for 6 2/3 innings in his second start. The 11:4 GO:FO and 4:1 K:BB are very good signs. He did give up a few too many hits and had a wild pitch. Wild Thomas Keeling and Casey Medlen finished with 2 1/3 perfect innings.

The bats once again did just enough. Cody Hawn went deep, his second on the young season. He had 6 last year in WI. Nick Shaw, T.J. Mittelstaedt and Hawn all had a hit and a walk. Mike Walker had two hits. The intriguing Miguel Velazquez had a triple. The Manatees have been very aggressive on the base paths thus far.

Sounds' Woes Continue With 5-1 Loss To RedHawks

04/10/2012 10:55 PM ET

Nashville Sounds

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Nashville Sounds' early-season struggles continued on Tuesday evening at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark as they lost their second straight game to the Oklahoma City RedHawks, falling 5-1 in the second game of a four-game series.

The win was the fifth in a row for Oklahoma City, which improved to 5-1 as the Sounds fell to 1-5 on the year.

The Sounds manufactured the game's first run in unearned fashion in the top of the second inning against Oklahoma City starter Paul Clemens. Corey Patterson led off with a single to right and was sacrificed to second by Eric Farris, moving to third on the play on a throwing error. Martin Maldonado then lifted a sacrifice fly to center to give Nashville a 1-0 lead.

Nashville starter Wily Peralta was solid in the early going, allowing only a J.B. Shuck first-inning infield single through the first four frames before a bit of wildness caught up with him in the fifth.

The right-hander issued back-to-back, one-out walks and, after a Shuck fielder's choice put runners on the corners, he uncorked a wild pitch that allowed the RedHawks center fielder to move into scoring position. Rehabbing Houston Astros shortstop Jed Lowrie followed with a two-out, two-run single to center that put Oklahoma City in front, 2-1.

Peralta (0-1) took a hard-luck loss after he allowed two runs on only two hits in his five frames of action, walking four batters and striking out six.

The RedHawks extended their lead to 5-1 in the seventh with a trio of two-out runs against the Sounds' bullpen.

Donovan Hand opened the frame on the hill for Nashville and allowed a one-out Landon Powell single before being struck by a comebacker off the bat of Diory Hernandez and departed the contest after recording an out on the play.

Vinnie Chulk replaced Hand and walked his first batter before surrendering back-to-back doubles to Justin Ruggiano and Fernando Martinez as Oklahoma City pulled ahead by four.

Clemens (1-1) picked up his first career Triple-A victory after holding the Sounds to one unearned run on five hits over five innings of work.

Oklahoma City pitchers stifled the Sounds' offense throughout the latter portion of the contest, retiring the final 15 batters in a row to secure the victory. Nashville's final hit and baserunner of the game was a Peralta single that led off the fifth inning.

The teams continue the series with another 7:05 p.m. matchup on Wednesday. Right-hander Mike Fiers (0-0, 1.50) will man the bump for the Sounds to face Oklahoma City right-hander Aneury Rodriguez (1-0, 5.40).

Box Score

Wily Peralta was pretty good throwing 92 pitches, 51 for strikes. 5 IP 2 H 2 R 2 ER 4 BB 6 K 1 WP 6:2 GO:FO. He exploded last year because he cut down on the walks and firmed up his command in the strike zone. Another incremental step in the right direction could really solidify him as an impact type pitcher. Peralta also had a hit tonight.

Logan Schafer (1B), Caleb Gindl (BB), Sean Halton (2B) and Taylor Green (1B) were all on base once. The Sounds used small ball for their only run. There are some black holes in the lineup for Nashville but this team should start scoring some runs soon.

Final: Birmingham (White Sox) 8, Huntsville 7 (11 innings)

Huntsville Box Score

Huntsville drops one in extra innings and the organization goes to 1-3 on the farm tonight. In an on odd game where each team only scored 2 or 3 runs when they tallied runs and all of the runs were scored in the 4th, 5th, and 11th innings the Stars just couldn't pull through. After scoring 2 in the top of the 11th the pitching faltered and gave the game away. Starting pitcher Dan Merklinger just didn't have it tonight, he only made it through 4 innings giving up 3H, 4BBs, and 4ER against 5SOs. Bradley Banks tried to bail out Merklinger in the 5th to no avail and ended up going 2.1 with 4H and 1s across the rest of the board. Rob Wooten was particularly effective until I jinxed him, when I jumped on Gameday he had thrown 19 pitches, 16 of which were strikes, but then of course walked the next batter. Rob had 2 strike outs across his 2.2IP. Santo Manzanillo didn't have his game tonight either, superb defense bailed him out of the 10th(well after the E) and he got right back into trouble in the 11th. Roque Mercedes came on and promptly allowed the game winning double to close out the game.

Normally a 1-7 effort won't get you mentioned in the LR, unless of course it's a double that could have been the game winner, but that was Kentrail Davis' night. Scooter Gennett went 3-5 with a double, Hunter Morris went 2-5 with 2 doubles, Khris Davis also went 2-5 with a double and a SB, Andy Gonazalez went 1-3 with a double and 3 walks, and finally Jason Jarmillo added a double. Brock Kjeldgaard always had intriguing power, if he keeps this season going he could be quite a story. Brock was 2-5 with a HR and a walk.

STARS FALL IN MARATHON WITH BARONS

HOOVER, Ala- In a game that lasted to nearly midnight, the Huntsville Stars fell to the Birmingham Barons by a score of 8-7 in 11 innings at Regions Park on Tuesday night.

After a scoreless first three innings, the Stars offense heated up in the top of the fourth inning. Right fielder Brock Kjeldgaard led off the inning with a solo home run. Consecutive RBI doubles by third basemen Andy Gonzalez and catcher Jason Jaramillo put the Stars up 3-0.

The Barons tacked on two runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to one. Huntsville answered with two more runs in the fifth inning on consecutive RBI doubles by first basemen Hunter Morris and designated hitter Khris Davis to increase their lead to 5-2.

However, that lead would be short-lived. In the bottom half of the fifth, the Barons countered with a two-run single by centerfielder Jared Mitchell. That was followed by an RBI single off the bat of catcher Damaso Espino to tie the game up.

The score would stay that way until the 11 th inning, where Stars right fielder Kentrail Davis snapped an 0-for-6 night with a two-run double to give Huntsville a 7-5 lead and a chance for the Stars bullpen to notch them their third win of the season.

Unfortunately for Huntsville, that did not go as planned. An RBI single from Corey Smith off of Stars RHP Santo Manzanillo made the score 7-6. However, it was Mitchell who provided the heroics for Birmingham with a two-out, two-run walkoff double off of RHP Roque Mercedes to end the game.

For Birmingham, LHP Matt Wickswat earned the Barons’ second win of the season with 2.1 innings of relief.

For Huntsville, Manzanillo blew his second save in as many chances and Mercedes was tabbed with his first loss of the season.

On offense, the Stars cranked out 14 hits, with Scooter Gennett leading the way with three of his own. Kjeldgaard, Morris and Kh. Davis each had two hits. As a team though, Huntsville left a season-high 15 runners on base, including the bases loaded in both the 8th and 9th inning.

The Stars will have to have a quick turnaround, as game two of the five-game series with the Barons begins at 11:05 on Wednesday with RHP Tyler Thornburg (0-0, 1.80 ERA) taking the hill as Birmingham counters with LHP Jose Quintana (0-1, 3.18).
