Some posters are on to something. I think Yuni and Casey may have been spared from a handful of errors had the first baseman been able to scoop the throws out of the dirt, or been tall enough to snag a high throw. But neither were liked, so it was always on them.

I don't know how much better defensively Gamel is, but a bad throw by Gonzo or Weeks might end up in people blaming Gamel for any missed scoop if he isn't producing offensively. If Gamel is tearing it up, and Gonzo is struggling, I think people would blame the same exact play on the throw.

Maybe with Casey, but I thought a lot of the complaints about Yuni were due to range and general slowness. Even when Yuni was on one of his boomlets of acceptable hitting, he looked awful in the field. Not saying the eye test is good enough, but if that's what we're talking about here, I don't know that having Pujols at first would've made any difference in general opinion.

Agreed... I think Yuni had the tendency to make himself look worse by giving no effort at balls that he could havedove for. Many of them probably would have resulted in an infield hit , but who knows, maybe he could have been able to get to more. If either the SS or 3B were above average, one of the two would be able to bail each other out. You would see a lot of balls go through that 3rd and SS gap until Jerry became the starter. Maybe now that they're both gone, I'm less sour on their poor defense, but people have the tendency to blame everything imaginable on players that aren't doing well, and that may include a low throw to a first baseman who should probably had scooped it. Same thing the other way: if you like the thrower, but dislike the catcher, people will blame the guy catching the ball.

Maybe I'm being too cynical on people in general and fans here are probably more level headed, but if you ever listen to 670 The Score, EVERYTHING is always Soriano's, Lovie Smith's, or Jay Cutler's fault. Always gives me a laugh.

is it just me or does Mat Gamel never look like he's having very much fun?

Cavemen don't have fun.

Alright Mat(ty) Gamel!! Way to go. You just tied Prince for career triples!

??

Prince has 9 career triples

I'm sorry, I was being facetious. It was merely a comment on Prince's lack of speed.

Prince has 2 career inside the park home runs. He's fast.

You may run like Mays...

I really shouldn't, but I'm very tempted to pay for MLB.tv. I just turned it on (wife usurped the TV and I don't feel like watching on a non-HD TV) and the quality is fantastic. I mean, I knew it was good from previous years, but this is great.
