2012-04-06 Cardinals (Garcia) at Brewers (Gallardo), 3:10 PM CDT (OPENING DAY)

Gamel is a better hitter than Gonzalez. Whether he's a rookie or 13 year veteran, Gamel is a better hitter than Gonzalez. Easily.

Also, there is no rule that says the catcher must bat 8th.

Why must things be so complicated with RR?

But Gonzalez had such a great spring. He'll be batting #6 for the entire season...... Roenicked!

How about GoGo today? Nice. Real nice

He always has a real nice opening day, sometimes even the first several weeks of the opening season, before breaking our hearts and crashing back down to earth in a big way.

A HR and we are back to save territory

I've been thinking about how I'd describe this game. I'd say it's "not pretty." It's not yet, "ugly." To me it's not ugly until you are more than a run or two away from "respectable." I think 8 to 4 would be respectable, so right now it's "not pretty."

I wish the game was more entertaining so that I wouldn't have thought about that so long.

Officially ugly now

Yeah, there were a bunch of positives. Gamel and Lucroy were good. Braun hit fine for the most part, despite his oh-fer. Hart looked good. Gomez hit the ball hard more than once. The defense was good. Pitching just sucked and we couldn't get guys home when they got on base. Happens.

George Kottaras = gun show.

Based on the party atmosphere of Opening Day, I wasn't surprised the boo birds were out in the third inning. Yo didn't have it today, just one of those days. Apparently Manny Parra didn't have it either, so Yo wasn't alone.

Mat Gamel looked good, Braun easily received the biggest ovations, followed by Nyjer Morgan. Aoki's leg kick is crazy, reminded me of the big leg lift Jenkins used to have, but Aoki strides with his.

All in all, it is just good to have baseball back. I missed Miller Park.

Looks like I picked a good year to skip Opening Day. Blacked out tomorrow so I probably won't even see them until sometime in the middle of next week. Just reminding myself that they started 0-4 last year.
