2012 Brewers Minor League Spring Training Box Scores

Mass Haas
Brewer Fanatic Staff

Please keep in mind that organizations can play fast and loose with these minor league games -- you may see Corey Hart leading off each inning in a game soon, as hinted at by Brewers' beat writers today.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you can't put much weight at all into placement level via these boxes, although you may garner some hints. The boxes don't always include positions played or first names, but if you have a question about a name, refer to our Player Index linked just below (oh yeah -- Gonzalez is "Andy Gonzalez", that type of thing). You won't see a breakdown of walks, HBP's, or K's in the hitting lines. Sorry about the way the boxes line up (or don't line up), also.

http://www.brewerfan.net/ViewPlayerIndex.do

Here's boxes from Friday's games -- Opening Day against Indians' affiliates:

AAA Nashville 5, Columbus 2

HR's by Sean Halton, Chad Stang and Andy Gonzalez -- it'd be nice to see Halton as the everyday AAA first baseman, but Travis Ishikawa's status will influence that; good to see Hainley Statia is recovered from what was a nasty leg injury suffered at the very end of the 2011 regular season. LHP Dan Merklinger may slide into the 5th starter spot at AAA with Frankie De La Cruz's departure -- he struck out five in 2.2 IP. Nice work by the relievers, as you'll see...

AA: Huntsville 9, Akron 6

The top of this lineup does look to have a lot of AA probabilities. 25-year-old OF Scott Krieger's huge day included a round-tripper. Brock Kjeldgaard broke out of his spring-long hitless slump, away from big league camp. INF Domnit Bolivar was a minor league Rule 5 pickup from the Cardinals last December. RHP Roque Mercedes had a rough day.

High-A: Carolina 4, Brevard County 4 (tie)

Max Walla went yard, seven Manatees had base hits, as Greg Hopkins and Jason Rogers doubled. Several very young farmhands (Matt Franco, Jalen Harris, Malcolm Dowell, Chris McFarland) saw action as subs, as games for rookie level farmhands are yet to be posted. Matt Miller got his work in -- 41 pitches through 3 IP (3 ER).

A-Ball: Lake County 4, Wisconsin 1

Timber Rattlers were outhit, 12-3. 17-year-old SS Orlando Arcia (18 in August) is stateside and not at the DSL academy, so that's exciting. 22-year-old DSL catcher Deivi Mejia is also stateside. LF Ben McMahan had two of the three Wisconsin hits, including a triple. Eric Arnett two scoreless -- can't read into placement, as forewarned earlier...

From Adam McCalvy's notes.

Twenty-two-year-old first baseman Nick Ramirez, the team's fourth-round pick in last year's Draft, told his Twitter followers that he had broken the hamate bone in his right hand. He will undergo surgery on Wednesday and miss 6-7 weeks. Outfielder Max Walla, a second-round pick in 2009, will be sidelined up to four weeks by a fractured left index finger.

I know it's just my historical Brewer fan knee jerk reaction (see the mighty Brad Nelson), but Mr. Ramirez career just took a nose dive. Combine the injury with that fact that some of the draft knowledgeable posters questioned the pick to start with and it sounds like a unfortunate draft pick at the moment. On the other hand, Taylor Green finally bounced back from his hamate injury, so that's something we could hope for in about 3 seasons.

And I hope Maxwell will bounce back quickly from his injury. He needs to keep his success from Helena going at Wisconsin.
