MLB 12: The Show

twofistedslopper

Thanks, patrickgpe & chadomac, for the pulse pitching explanations

I'm confident enough hitting with two strikes to use the power swing exclusively until I get two strikes. If you connect you can really get some amazing homers. I've had Weeks hit one on the roof of the .300 Club for example.

Holy moly. Sounds like I need to start using the power swing! I had no idea.

For any fellow nerds that use the Operation Sports rosters... the spring training version just went live recently... the Opening Day set should be up within a few days. Aoki wasn't on the spring training version so i'm waiting for the next set before starting my Franchise for the season.

In positive game news... I've figured out that pitch speed varies depending on difficulty. I was a Veteran level guy last year and went to All-Star this year. Couldn't hit anymore. I knocked the pitch speed down 4 ticks and destroyed the Phillies just now. 7 home runs, my first home run ever by a pitcher (Wolf), and 4 home runs in a game from A-Ram. It was pretty cool. At least I know I can hit on All-Star... I just gotta figure out which pitch speed will be the most enjoyable for me.

Wow, I must have missed him somehow. The new rosters should be out this Wednesday I'm reading.

As a noob to roster uploads can someone please take a moment and lay it out step-by-step? I want to download the OSOD full minor league roster for the Show 2012. Much, much appreciated in advance.

Go to the Roster Vault from the main menu, find the user 'Ridindwnkingsley' and the rosters should be titled something like - OSFM Opening day. If you sort all the rosters by ratings or # of downloads it might be easier to find, I'm not sure if you can search by user or not. These will have a high # of DLs and ratings.

Once you download it and save, you might have to load them before you can look at them. You can load in the same area where you make saves. You should be able to tell right away if you got the correct rosters, they will have Aoki and all the Brewers minor leaguers on the roster.

I'm awful at this game and I'm here asking if anyone can give me some suggestions for making it a bit more fun. I seem only able to make it too hard (lucky to score a run or two a game and a lot of shutouts) or too easy (regular 3+ run innings). Is it a matter of adjusting the sliders (any suggestions about which ones to adjust and how), or is it about setting the difficult levels (rookie, veteran, etc.)? I seem to be better at pitching than hitting, and it seems like my real problem is timing pitches.

So, I'll keep playing around with settings, but maybe someone can suggest a general set up that might help. I don't want to waste the $60!

If timing is an issue, you can adjust the pitch speed slider. You can lower it which will give you a little more time to react to the pitch. Makes it easier to lay off bad pitches and more time to react to a fastball. There is a timing slider, if you increase it, it makes your timing window larger so even if you are a little late on a swing you have a better chance of making good contact.

If you think you are timing right but just not getting hits you can increase the solid hits slider. I have noticed in this year's game there seems to be a lot more hard hit balls right at a defender.

Another issue could be your TV. I have two LCD TVs, one a Philips, the other LG. On the LG I can hit and my timing is very good, on the Philips I am always behind and not making solid contact and rarely score more than 2 runs. The Philips is a couple years older and there is no 'Game Mode' on the TV so I'm experiencing lag on that TV. If you have a 'Game Mode' setting on your TV, use that. Here is a forum discussion on the lag with this game... http://www.operationsports.com/forums/mlb-show/540789-game-absolutely-100-needs-calibrate-lag-feature.html

Lowering pitch speed helps for sure. The Show 11 was my first experience with these games, and it was very hard for me at first. Eventually I made it past that "swing at everything" mentality and got pretty dominant playing on Veteran.

I moved to All-Star for The Show 12 and I was constantly getting beat 2-0, 3-0... couldn't hit anymore. I've lowered the pitch speed 3 ticks and I'm 9-9 in my season so far. I still am not hitting all that well, so I may lower the pitch speed even further... but I'll probably give it another 10 games before deciding.

Unlike many Show fans, I like hitting a ton... I don't need it to be a total sim experience... but Veteran was getting too easy for me as well. I'd try taking pitch speed down 2 ticks and then try other things if that still doesn't change your situation.

Anyone know if this years game has some of the same issues with timing that the last couple years had? Basically, with my HD TV, the last few years the swing timing is way off. When you would time your swing, the ball would be half way to home, but your player would hack at the ball like it was already past him, and you would be very late on your swing. It's very hard for me to explain, so I'm not sure if people are going to get what I mean without actually seeing it. Basically, to time it right, you have to swing right when the ball leaves the pitcher's hand, but that obviously means you just have to hope it's in the strike zone. It's the same way for pitching. when you use the pitch meter and try to line the cursor up with the release point, it's way late and you basically miss your spot by a huge amount. To have a good release point, you have to hit the button when the cursor is at about 12 o'clock on the meter, rather than about 2 o'clock where the target release point is. All the timing was perfect when I still had my 1080i tv, but ever since i got the new tv, it doesn't play well. Just got annoying, so i don't think i'm going to get this years version unless that is fixed. I went online last year to some forumns and was told that the game was designed with a Sony TV, and therefore some other brands have this problem. You can adjust settings on the TV and get the timing slightly better but not good.

These tips seem to have helped, thanks. I increased Human Contact (that makes me laugh), timing, and reduced the pitch speed 2 clicks. I scored 6 runs. I may have to adjust it a bit to find a happy medium, but at least it was more fun.

I had this issue went I went from a box tv to a flat screen. I played around with the settings...unsure exactly what I did but then it worked great. I will try to remember what I did.

Thanks stout, basically the same with me. Went from a lower definition tv to a higher one. Any help would be cool. I would love to get the game again, but not if the problems are the same. I could see the PS2 having problems since it was made before HD, but the PS3 shouldn't have these problems.

I'm not sure how the Wii works with 2K. I bought a 2K game a few years ago and returned it. Not sure if you've played them both, but in my opinion the Show is way way WAY better. I am not a huge video game guy, but I plunked down the $250 on a PS3 JUST to play MLB The Show. Over a year later, another copy of the Show purchased, and I do not regret that decision at all.

Was browsing information on the Show and bumped into this question. The issue has nothing to do with the game it's the way new tvs refresh the screen. Based on the tv and the settings it creates an input lag. Any game you would play would have the problem.

If you post what TV you have I'm sure I can find what settings you need to turn on. I have a LG 47 inch tv and I have to change the input name to PC. This turns off all the post processing the TV does that creates lag. Works like a charm. Feel free to PM me if you want as I only joined to reply to this question. :laughing

Also if you look for your tv model in the http://www.avsforum.com/ I'm sure you will find out exactly what settings to use. They go crazy there about setting up their tvs. Just figured it would be a shame to have someone miss out on such a great game because the tv setups are so annoying now. :)

It is a TV problem. If you have a game setting on your TV you should switch it to that and some TV's have actual game ports they want you to plug it into. For example my Sony TV recommends HDMI slot 3 for game consoles. There is also a mode that you can place your TV into which helps with the lag.

Alright, I bought a PS3 last night. I basically just set it up and downloaded the most recent official update. I'm totally lost on how to do the minor league ones and stuff, though, so I will likely need help on that, too. When I get home from work tonight, I hope to immerse myself in this game.

I did a fantasy draft for a franchise and have been simulating the games. How do I make Roenicke stop playing Manny Ramirez in CF once a week when he is supposed to be my RH bench bat/DH in interleague?

Manny had a monster year for me, though, so it sort of worked, and at least I wasn't watching the games to see him play out there. I have Mike Trout in CF, so there was no need for resting him.
