autographs, signings, and tips, part 1

BHF, I believe your refering to me. Now I don't know this because this is my first year getting autos at the players lots but one of the regulars was telling me July and August are really bad months. Players are tired from the grind of the game, and therefore don't sign as much. For me there was a huge contrast in the players I obtained in May than in July, but it could have just been the day because I've only been there a handful of times. Now, I'd still reccomend going because I've never been turned down by Hardy, Jenkins, Mench, Suppan, or Wise. BHF and myself I believe are going tomorrow so maybe we can give you guys some kind of report or hopefully see you down there. PS. I don't have a problem with the groupies, but there is this one guy who is an absolute jerk. He called Corey Hart an ****** after the game because he was walkin his 3 kids to his cars and couldn't sign autographs. From what I've heard this is isn't first time doing it, and it just absolutly disgusts me that someone could be that conceted!

if i would have been there i would have been in that guys face in a second. those groupies are sorry losers that go almost to every game to get autos and get mad when they get turned down. they ruin it for others.

I really did want to punch him the face, but to me even acknowledging somone like that is giving them more than they deserve. It really is sad that the collectors and ebay people ruin it for the real fans. I talked to one guy who had Craig Counsells autograph over 20x and he was angry he stopped signing for him. Rickie Weeks, Counsell, Shouse and others rarely sign because they are sick and tired of their stuff ending up on ebay. You know what I don't blame players that don't sign autographs, because what they think they are signing for a six year old kid is actually going to his 40 yr old dad, so he can make a couple bucks on the internet, that kind of stuff really angers me!

I agree why do people need that much stuff signed by one player? Isn't a couple things enough?

Literally, a couple of bucks. I'm not an autograph expert but it seems to me that people are wise to the fact that eBay is a dumping ground for fake garbage and it's driven the prices way down.

I would have asked the guy why he wanted Craig Counsell's sig that many times. Its Craig Counsell.

All those people who hang around there all the time and then sell stuff make me not want to go. I don't want to get lumped into that group of people. Im a straight collector/trader. I never sell stuff.

When I think about it I lose quite a bit of money. Let's say I get a ball signed by Prince Fielder will just say its worth about $50. Well, first off their is the $15 for the ball, $20 for gas (1 hr commute), about another $15 for a ticket, and another $10 for food. I never make money and frankly I don't care(I'd never sell it anyways). For me its about 50 yrs from now showing my grandkids what an autograph of Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun looked like. The people that try to sell this styff off p me off, because there ruining the genuine quality of obtaining autographs. I remember being 10yrs old and getting Shawn Green's autograph and just shaking when obtaining it because he was the MVP of the league, I didn't care about what some stupid book told me what it was worth! I really hope those people who try to profit from this take their money and put them you know where, because its taking away from the experience of young fans that could possibly make them baseball fans for life!

it looks like i will be trying for my first time on friday. i was wondering what you guys do to pass the time. i was thinking about bringing my glove and playing catch with my buddy, maybe a cooler with a couple of sodas. do you bring chairs? we won`t be able to get there until 1:15 ish due to work and drive time...do you think that will be too late? thanks for the feedback.

on the selling thing note, i personally haven`t, but this is the usa and we are about capitolism and obviously there is some demand for the items or they wouldn`t sell. my thinking is that some people make good enough money that they would rather pay for an auto rather than going to the lengths that some of us around here would to obtain one. perhaps some people view sellers as an asset for obtaining autos. to me meeting the person is a huge part of the auto, but thats just my own view.

Honestly your cutting it a little close. I remember when I went at noon last time Yost, Wise, Villaneuava, Braun, Gallardo all had already come. I think you can still get some autos, but I doubt a lot. You shouldn't have to worry too much about the time because everyones pretty much there by 3:00 or 3:30! Good Luck!

Alright, so now I want to try this!! Where exactly is the player's lot? And I thought autograph Friday's was after the gates opened but before the game? Now I need to show up between Noon and 3pm? I'm confused. Note: It was so easy at Tropicana Field, you only had to fend off 10-12 people from the 1,500 that showed up for the gamehttp://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/roll.gif

Does anyone know if Braun signs much? Yesterday I sent him a baseball and just wonder what are my chances of getting it back signed.

I wrote some stuff to him asking him if he would sign, and I would appreciate it a lot. I sent it to:

Ryan Braun

Miller Park

One Brewers Way

Milwaukee, Wisconsin 54... (I think he shouldn't have any problems getting it)

Thanks

lcbj68c, getting autos in the lot is a different from Autograph fridays. AF are from 5:45 - 6:05 in the stadium.

People go to the parking lot for autos before and after the game with varying degrees of success.

Very nice site 20Fry, the first time I've checked it out. So...what lot is the players lot. Is that the lot right around the corner from the right left corner, just off miller park way as if coming in from national ave?

Got in line at 4:45 for Prince. No chance of getting it so we got Yost instead which wasnt bad.

How was the Yost line? Im going to a game at the end of the year when his group goes and I dont wanna even attempt to go for Prince so Im thinking about Yost. Or I believe Villanueva is in that group as well.

The line for prince was out of control last night. My son got in line no problem, but I didn't. I saw the huge mass of people pushing into each other at the top and decided to skip it. I've got Prince before, no biggie. So I got a Yost sig and went to a concession stand for a soda.

I walked by the Prince line, which was 4 rows deep. The inner most row was the "original" row with 3 rows to the right were just people trying to skip. People were pushing and screaming at each other. There was an usher standing right at the top of the seating bowl watching this mess unfold, letting people pour in even though people were screaming "The line starts back there". So as walked by I said to another usher (one section over) "those people are going to kill each other" and he said "They have an usher over there, thats her problem". I said, "seriously, you need to get someone over there" and he just looked past me and ignored me. I couldn't believe it. I know there has been much complaint about the stadium staff this year, but this still surprised me.

Eventually they cut off the row at the top step, which meant 95% of the people in the legitimate line, and nearly everyone in the "mob line" got shut out. It also didn't help that

Prince was late getting out, but either way I felt bad for all the people standing in that line.

Not bad. We went to the Prince line and realized there was no chance whatsoever so we moved and got into the Yost line at 5:40. We easily got through as he seemed to sign for quite some time. We had the autographs by 6:05 and we went and watched BP for a while thereafter.

they will have to stop autograph friday's, bandwagoner's ruin it for everyone.

Agreed, but let me take it a step further. The Brewers are in new territory in terms of dealing with large crowds on a daily basis, but they need to step up right now. The (lack of) reaction from the ushers and stadium staff was an embarrassment. I go to a lot of games, I'll be pushing 35-40 games this year. I've been a season ticket holder 8 of the last 13 years and I've never been more disappointed with my stadium experience that this year.

Yet what I find funny is that when I was in line for Yost, I stepped aside to let a family of 4 people pass through the line and I had an usher pointing to me and yell, "Get over, you can't stand there". I just said, "Can I let these people pass? Geez" and he said, "on the right (side), get over".

This was the same usher who would allow a guy to bring his two kid straight to the front of the line to get an autograph. He walked right in from the left and asked the usher if it was ok for his kids to get an autograph. I looked at the guy and said, "wow, and all this time I thought I needed to stand in line". He says, "I'm not getting one, just my kids". And the usher just waves him through! Unbelievable.

i was thinking that the ushers were terrible also. it hasn`t been all that bad this year in general in my opinion, but they were unprepared for the rush that came at them. when the rush did come they gave it a i don`t get paid enough for this attitude. people were cutting line like crazy, one person in a family would be in line and then they would bring the rest of their family and friends. i was 4th in line outside and got pushed and cutted until i didn`t get an auto. quite unbelievible the way people were acting.
