I don't make up when there will be a signing, and I didn't make up what I just told BrewCrew, frankly it ticks me off when I hear something from a source, relay it, and then someone tells me that I am wrong, it is annoying that people ask, is that confirmed or something like that, I don't say it, if I don't know it...

Easy there, you need to settle down a little bit. I never said they didn't go through the agents for the signing. Plus when I bought my ticket last year for Prince they said I could get picture with him, so don't you accuse me of telling you, that you are wrong.

We can ask if anything is confirmed or not, we want to make sure the signing is happening. It's not the end of the world when I ask. If it's such a big deal to you that I want to make sure it's confirmed or not don't reply.

Hey 20 fry, where did you get the Braun auto? Like was he sigining for the autograph fridays?

We actually got him before the game outside of Miller Park. This guy seems very friendly and open to talking with fans. I'll enjoy it while it lasts. Usually when you tell a player "have a good game" he'll reply "thanks". Ryan said (yes, we're on a first name basis) "Thanks, man - I appreciate it. I need to get myself going a bit. I can't wait to start contributing. Feels good to be here though." It was nice to see an athlete being personable.

Cappy and Matt Wise are two other guys like that.

Weeks is worth paying for, since he personalizes and doesn't sweet spot, thanks for the info cweber...Did they release the dates, or just say that they were coming up, or are you so important that you can't release all of that to the public

Ha BHF I wish I were that important. They only date he said was the Tony Gwynn Jr. which he said would be like July 14th or July 21st they weren't sure, I think I am having total memory laps right now. They were not sure on the other signings yet on when the days, all he said was a busy summer. He just told me to keep checking the website and look for the emails.

I went to the Turnbow & Wise signing yesterday at Sportsman's wharehouse...they were both really nice and very talkative...they were chatting it up with everyone...I was able to go thru the line 3 times...got 2 8x10's of each and a ball signed by Wise & had Turnbow sign him regular bobble on the hat with a silver sharpie.

I know I'm a little late, but what are my chances of going to the sighing at the medical college and wed. and getting a Prince ball on the sweet spot?? Will ne not fo it? He's the only "young" player I need of a ball on the sweet spot and would like to know if he will do it if I ask him.

Thanks!

I got Braun at Friday's after the game Friday night, he was signing after his interview with the Unit. He signed my team ball and an individual ball on the sweet spot. He seemed like a really nice guy and after I thanked him he said something like "I can't thank you guys enough for the support, it means a lot"

Maybe someone can answer this for me. Just before he came into Friday's, a guy behind me caught him walking in and asked to sign on the sweet spot. He replied "sorry, i'm not allowed to" but once he got in, he signed for everyone on the sweet spot.

My question is, once he's inside Friday's and know he's doing a signing after the interview, is it in his contract to sign on the sweetspot, but before he gets in, or right after he leaves, he's not allowed to? I've heard the same thing about Weeks, Prince, and JJ no longer signing on the sweet spot, but didn't have any problem getting them to do it at a Brewers On Deck or Autograph Friday's signing. But if you catch em at a bar or restaraunt, or even in the parking lot, are they still under a contract with some agent?

Sheets is the only guy I know of that won't sign on the sweetspot, he likes to sign right under the MLB logo because "I have to face that guy." Maybe it's superstition, or maybe he thinks he's a hollywood star, I dunno

Just a thought here but...

If you see these guys out at a bar or restaurant please use some discretion. I've met some players over the years and I can tell you they expect to be hounded for autographs at the park and even in the parking lots & hotels but they all like to have a somewhat normal time when they go out - whether it be to dinner or to the store. Of the current group of players, Prince Fielder in particular wants to to be "normal". I'm not trying to tell anyone how to behave, but in my mind, restaurants & bars are off limits when it comes to seeking autographs.

I recently managed a retail store where a certain green bay packer player frequented. Every time he came in he was mobbed. He smiled and signed, talked football - the whole 9 yards. One day I saw him with about a dozen or so people around him - everyone trying to ask for an autograph or a photo, you get the picture. So I walk over to him and say "Hi, I'm the manager here, can I talk to you for a second?" We walk away from the "mob" and he says, "you want an autograph?" I said, "I just figured you wanted to do your shopping in peace." He cracked a huge (and I mean huge) smile and patted me on the back and said, "Thanks, man!" Every time he came in after that he'd walk by me and shout out - "that's the man right there".

I talked to him from time to time - like I would any customer - and he said something that summed it up for me. He said "I don't mind it, but sometimes people need to understand I got the tivo paused at home".

On the flip side, handshakes and hellos seem to be acceptable almost always. I once met Frank Robinson here in Milwaukee. He was walking downtown more or less next to me and a friend. I was looking at him and whispering "That's Frank Robinson". I didn't know what the proper etiquette was so I just kept walking - and staring. Then suddenly he looked over and said "I don't bite" and extended a hand. I was a little embarrassed and just shook his hand. He said "you can always say hi" and kept walking.

Anyway, a bit off topic I know, but I thought I'd add my 2 cents anyhow. I won't even talk about the time I almost got my rear end handed to me by a MLB player.

oh, but now you have to.you can't just say something like that and not tell the story.

Ahman Green came to Best Buy all the time but nobody ever went up for his autograph or even to say hi. People would stare, walk by him but never go up to him I would almost think staring would be worse then actually saying hi..When Sandberg came into Best Buy, after I poined him out to some people, a couple went up and said Hi. Otherwise the so called cubs fans had no clue who he was.

Well, this is certainly a story better told in person (or at least someplace without a swear filter) but the short story is that I said a few things to a California Angles player that he didn't like very much. He came out after the game and got in my face, still in uniform, behind the bleachers at county stadium. He was screaming at me, pointing his finger in my face, calling me ... names. His teammates were saying things like "It's not worth it man" & "calm down", but he was lit.

I was completely terrified, my legs were shaking, my mouth was dry and people were forming a circle around us. I knew I was going to suffer a very painful death that night. I was also an 18 year old guy who couldn't allow himself the shame of backing down in front of friends and strangers. So, even though I was literally shaking I said - and I quote - "Go ahead and hit me, I'll sue you for millions. Oh wait, you make league minimum because you suck".

That just set him off even more. He wanted to tear me in half. His team mates had to drag him away. I stood there for a few seconds unable to move. Then I started yelling back at him. Turns out, I'm a lot tougher when the other guy is being held back by 4 rather large men.

Tony Phillips, right?

No, but if I remember Phillips did get into a fight behind the bleachers a year or two later. This happened to me in 1995 and it was a rookie pitcher.

but i sure wish he woulda signed on the sweet spot.

Historically and a baseball tradition is that the sweet spot is reserved for managers. Especially at the park, players can be leery of signing on the sweet spot, as if that ball gets to the manager they can "catch hell".

Now, I am not saying that this why every player refuses to sign on the sweet spot, but if you get a relief pitcher (or someone that doesn't have a big demand) at the park, and they automatically sign not on the sweet spot, they are assuming you are going to get more sigs. on the ball.

If you look at team signed balls on Ebay -- you will see what I mean

2007 Mets

1992 Reds

1957 Phills

A good tip is to tell the players that you are not going to have anyone else sign the ball.
