Lake Geneva could be another interesting day trip for you but public transit likely won't be easy to find.

Yeah, that is pretty much car-only. Maybe a bus will get you there, but nothing to get around town (granted, its small - maybe a bike rental would do once in town).

there are bike rentals, as well as mini car(picture an open top, one seat car) rentals. Both are MORE than enough to get around the parts of lake geneva you want to visit.

If you do this, I would recommend the mail-delivery boat tour. They hire students to deliver mail by boat for the lake-front houses. The student jumps off the front of the boat at the house's dock, runs down to the mailbox, runs back to jump on the rear of the boat. The boat does not stop. Quite often, a kid ends up in the lake. :laughing

And its a nice tour of the length of the 10 mile long lake.

I had a friend in HS who did that. Best part is, a lot of the homeowners pour water on the docks just before the boat gets there, to make the kids slip. :laughing

yesterday i bought the lonely planet guide, here's what it starts with about milwaukee "milwaukee is a wonderful city but nobody dares to say it"

with your help and the guide i think i will be ok.

the brewers kindly wrote me if i wanted to change my tickets for the 16th of august to go to the Harley Davidson section (i asked about all inclusive areas).

what it is like?

Oh, yeah, that would be cool. The view for the game itself wouldn't be the best, but it's a unique vantage point, and since you're going to multiple games it would probably be fun for a change of pace.

I assume you've seen the area when you've watched Brewers games...?

I just have to say I think it's really cool that a guy from Italy likes the Brewers. It's not like he was born here and moved away. He's an actual Italian! I bet the Milwaukee Journal would be interested in writing a story about you. This seems right up Jim Stingl's alley (he's a columnist at the newspaper that does human interest stories).

Plus you picked the Brewers to follow - when it would probably be tempting for someone from outside the US to just gravitate toward a huge-market club. High five! I look forward to meeting you, for real, later this year.

This.

I also think it would be an awesome PR chance that the Brewers would jump all over.

We should start a campaign to have him throw out the first pitch!

Yes. Anyone know anyone in the Brewers front office? If not, we could start by contacting TH.

the only think i asked the brewers is for my girlfriend running in the italian sousage!!!

i decline the tickets for the HD section because the game i was offered is my first game and i don't think i would be so laid back to enjoy the atmosphere, the food etc...

i think my first game will be going to MP as early as i can and just be mesmerized like an idiot for the next few hours...

if the tickets were for one of the other games i probably would have accept the change.

@homer:starting from tonight i will have nightmares of me throwing the first pitch to marcus hanel the way carl lewis did..

I'm bumping this thread because, if my memory serves me well (and it usually does), kalle8 and his bride Rosanna are either married by now, or about to be. Best wishes to you both! :) :) :)

oh no!

they are ugly.

another (the first one was the "birraioli gate") PR error.

though the italian flag is the "tricolore" green-white-red, the italian colour, that identifies italians (in sport especially) abroad is the "azzurro", light blue.

hope Yo will start that day for the jersey is more mexican than italian...

don't know why they changed the colours, last year for german heritage day there were no black-red-yellow jerseys.

all said, i will buy it no matter what.....

I still think it would be cool for the Brewers to do something more than Harley Deck tickets. I sent tweets to John H. Steinmiller (@jstein1981) and Mike Vassallo (@MikeVassallo13) with links to this thread and kalle8's memorable thread about The Zebra.

I told Kalle I'd do the same, but hadn't gotten around to doing it yet. Thank you, pretend astronaut!

The other angle I offered to cover for Kalle & his new wife is to put together a tailgate for the game on August 18th. I was already going to this game, which is one that Kalle & the Mrs. will be attending. So I don't have any full plan about this tailgate, but I was surprised to learn when I asked Kalle that they hadn't already had an offer to tailgate. So it'd be cool if other BF.netters wanted to get together to help them experience a true Wisconsin tailgate! Kalle told me he was very excited about the idea, so how can you not get excited about sharing that experience? :) Any & all are welcome... details to come.

It sounds like you're just going to miss the Wisconsin State Fair, which would have probably been a hilarious and enjoyable look into Wisconsin summer festival life, fried everything. Thankfully for you, in the right field corner they do have a sampling of fried foods like you might find at the state fair (including deep fried bacon). A Wisconsin tailgate is a must, though.

Why is the Italian soccer (football) team identified and called azzurro, or The Azzurri?

azzurro is the light blue colour that was associated to the Savoia family, once reigning family in italy (republic since 1948).

the national teams started to wear "azzurro" for that reason and still do.

as you may know i will attend the whole mid-august homestend, much for the delight of my wife, and i am always thirsty and hungry..... :laughing

(in italy people from my town, Genova, are told to be "short armed"....arm that can't reach the pocket.....)

I didn't get a bite on my tweets yesterday. And I agree, a Brewerfan tailgate is the proper thing to do.

So I'm not sure whether or not to start a thread in the ML forum or not, but...

I'd like to formally invite people to a tailgate prior to the August 18th (Sat.) game against the Phillies to help Kalle & Rosanna celebrate their honeymoon & pilgrimage to the Mecca that is Miller Park!

I happened to already be going to this game, and when I realized that this was a game Kalle would be attending, I messaged him to see if anyone had invited him to a tailgate yet. When he answered 'no' -- and the enthusiasm he has for this tailgate came oozing off my cpu monitor -- I knew this had to happen.

What I'd like to know is if enough people would be interested in this to warrant a post in the ML forum taking an official head count. As of right now I have absolutely zero planned & zero idea of how much interest to expect. So please weigh in with whether or not you want to attend -- this tailgate is 100% happening, even if it's just like half a dozen people total :) But I'll need to have some idea of how much food/beer will be needed, so... go!
