The A's also spent a bunch of money to renovate the old Cubs location in Mesa after the Cubs left for their new digs.

Other advantage of FL is they could kill 2 birds with one stone. Spring Training and the home for their A+ team.

I alluded to this is my pro-roof post above, but yep, if they move their spring training to Florida, it's pretty much a slam dunk that they'd try to have their advanced-A club play in the stadium during the year. It would be worth spending some more money on nicer facilities if they were being utilized more so during the season than the Maryvale park is.

The Angels are also somewhat in the same position that the Brewers are in though their spring training facilities have been updated recently. The Angels are in the same spring training facility that the then Seattle Pilots and Brewers were in originally.

The Angels extended their lease at their spring training facility around or at the same time the Brewers did with theirs. I don't think the Angels have an out clause like the Brewers do.

If the Angels have an out clause it would be wise for the Brewers to team up with the Angels to get new facilities or to update the Angels current spring training facilities.

Aren't the Brewers and A's the only teams without a pretty new complex in Arizona? Why can't these two get together to build their own? You would think splitting the costs would make it more feasible without all the taxpayer money that Mark is no doubt holding out for.

Why spend your own money when you can get it for free in Florida...which is arguably a better place financially?

Is that true though? Has there been any new complex built in Florida recently? I don't know. I know it took shenanigans for the Marlins to get taxpayer money for their stadium and it doesn't seem like Tampa is willing to give the Rays anything. Totally different sums of money but same principle.

I don't know how much one of these stadiums cost, but the amounts are in different universes.

It's rather astounding to me that the Brewers may not have options in the Valley. As I alluded to earlier, Gila River should mirror what occurred at Talking Stick and create a greater destination point for their Wild Horse Pass Casino. I have to imagine locating an MLB Spring Training site at or near their casino and hotel would do wonders for increasing their business and footprint in the Valley.

Which I addressed. There is a huge pushback against tax payer funded stadiums for pro sports teams right now. I don't think it matters how much, any city that tries to use tax payer funds for a stadium is going to get a lot of opposition to it.

That and they signed a 20 year lease to play at Hohokam. So they are pretty much out as a training partner.

Isn't someone murdered just about everyday in Milwaukee? Yet the Brewers continue to play there.

I think its different. have you ever been to the stadium? I'm guessing not. There are boarded up strip malls right across the street from the ball park. Imagine if miller park was on 16th and National or 35th and North and then you can see why the brewers should leave.

My comment was in jest but yes I have been to Maryvale a few times. While the neighborhood doesn't look great I've never felt unsafe there.

A serial killer is a different animal when compared to more typical crimes. This kind of situation is somewhat independent of the "quality" of a neighborhood. For instance, while Jeffery Dahmer's crimes were committed in a somewhat sketchy neighborhood, Charles Manson's crimes were committed in upscale areas.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

neither did I, but there is a reason why they only play day games there

That's good news. That area they are in now stinks.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I have been saying it from the time this problem started, why not Gilbert? Surprised they still don't have a team. Hope the Brewers can work something out there. That is a nice area that is being built up on the south side of town.

But we are Brewers fans so more years in garbage Maryville...of course. My guess is the Brewers will be too cheap to convince Gilbert to build a brand new stadium and will stick to Maryville after some renovations they don't have to foot $20mil+ of the bill for.

Personally I would like the Brewers to have spring trainning in Florida, I would rather go to the beach than look at catcus or the mountains.

I live in FL so I'd love it if the Brewers' spring training moved to FL. Come to SW Florida and join Boston and the Twins. :)
