Absolutely didn't see this coming, if true. Either this is Prince's way of sticking it to his Dad, or he just really didn't want to play for the Nats. Does this mean that Miguel Cabrera would move to 3rd, or does Prince become the DH?

Good for Prince. Good situation for Brewers fans that wish to continue cheering for him. Detroit's a good team, in the AL.

Would've preferred Washington because it would've meant a better comp pick, but it's still a good situation for Prince. Brewers should get the 27th pick now, in addition to their own pick at 28.

It was asked in the Prince thread that was just locked but what sort of compensation do we get from the Tigers (i.e. what pick)?

We will get their first round pick. Pick 27. We pick 28 as well. We will also get a sandwich pick. Time for some impact bats

The Brewers get Detroit's pick, number 27, along with their own pick, number 28. I thought that the compensation rules changed for this year, but apparently not. I'm not sure if the Brewers will also get a supplemental pick. I guess I'm not sure how the rules have changed for this year, if they have at all.

Thanks for the info jjfanec and Crew2323. Really interesting with the back-to-back picks plus the potential of a supplemental pick. Doug Melvin and Bruce Seid must be licking their chops.

Looks like the sandwich pick is number 38. So we pick 27, 28, and 38. Those picks could go a long way in getting some impact bats after we addressed pitching early and often last year

Thanks for the memories, big fella. Please fire Boras now. I know it doesn't mean anything, but it would make me happy. The Tigers have a pretty nasty 1-2 punch with Miggy and Prince. Tigers vs Brewers WS in 2012.

I was in Miller Park for Prince's first career homerun, was there to see him hit 50, was there when Reed Johnson robbed him of the grand slam, was in the left field bleachers when he hit the walk-off against the Pirates in the final week of 2008, his last Brewers at-bat and so many others. I've known for three years this day was coming, but still sad to see an era end. Best of luck in Detroit for Prince. Here's to eclipsing everything his father did.

Makes sense that only an AL team would be willing to go nine years on Prince, and it will be interesting to see if he's a DH next year. A defense with Fielder at 1B and Cabrera at 3B would be brutal.

All-in-all, I'm happy for Prince. He stayed healthy and productive, and he got the deal he wanted. I wish the Brewers could have gotten more for him than a draft pick, but he helped us get a division title, so I guess it's worth it. Let the Gamel era begin.

Great news for Brewers' fans, IMO. First, he signed a contract that the Brewers had zero chance of giving him. No regrets on that end for us, then. Second, he's in the AL on a team that isn't perennially dominant (i.e. Yankees, Red Sox, etc.). So we have excuse to continue to like him. Last, we get another first round pick out of it.

I can't really think of another team I'd rather have him go to.
