Sheepshead + Brewers = Good Idea?

Given that many of us live in Wisconsin and there are some of us who like to play Sheepshead, would it make sense to have groups of five get together at some of our houses perhaps on a biweekly basis during a Brewers game and play?

I'm out in Waukesha, and would probably be able to host a game on a regular basis.

I would think that would be a wonderful idea. I'm definitely down.

EDIT: Sheepshead is the best card game there is, so Sheepshead+Brewers would equal an amazing time. I'll bring the beer the first night.

when I get back to Wisco for a bit this summer, I'd love to join. 5 handed rules. We could also do a yahoo version some other nights, since we all watch the games while on the net

I'd take some fools out at cribbage.

I hear ya.

I've never played sheepshead, nor did I know it was so popular. I'll have to read up and check it out.

Explain 3 handed, please.

wow, this is tough in a small window.

It's 2 vs 1. Cards are dealt (10 to each; take the 2-6 out of the deck in each suit so there are 32 cards)). Trump are diamonds, jacks, and queens.

The first person can pick the "blind" (has two cards in it). If they do, then the person now has 12 cards. They choose two cards to "bury". These can be points, or the opportunity to eliminate a suit from their hand. Rarely if ever are trump buried.

The picker's goal is to get 61 points. The opponents goal is to get 60. There are 120 possible points (A=11, 10=10, K=4, Q=3, J=2). As in other Trump games, if you are out of a suit, you can trump it, which means that a diamond, jack, or queen takes the suit. Unlike Hearts, you can actually lead trump before it is broken.

I think that's the simple way to explain it, although Sheepshead is a tough game to describe

I'd really be interested. I'm not a novice but I'm not an expert either. I just don't want someone delivering a beatdown if we're playing JD partner & I screw up a hand because I didn't know who was partners right away.

Does anyone else have a ritual for when a leaster happens, everyone yells, LEASTERS!! As loud as possible, when my dad taught me the game, I was 14 or so, thats how he said you had to play. Thats how I have ever played since. I dont play as frequently as i'm a euchre buff instead. It wouldnt be a difficult game to pick up again. Definatly an interesting idea.
