Maholm to Cubs

1 year, $4.75 million. Club option for 2013 at $6.5 million.

 

I think the Cubs did well with this one. Maholm isn't great, but he's a solid #4 or $5 guy.

That's a pretty decent deal for a guy who is about average and typically is pretty durable.

That's good value on it's face, but away from PNC, Maholm has a career 5.03 ERA and his career ERA at Wrigley is 5.48.

Maholm is a ground ball pitcher and keeps the ball in the park, so his downside is limited. This does tell you how valuable a guy like Narveson is, a minimum salary guy who compares to Paul.

 

A precursor to a Garza trade. Love what Theo is doing though.

I think at time that average starting pitchers can be the most undervalued commodity in the market.
