Brewerfan Winter Meetings 2012: March 10 at AJ Bombers, Madison

Hey everyone. I just wanted to put out feelers about having a "Winter Meeting" this coming year. I am more than happy to spearhead this event again this year, if the powers that be are open to it. If plans are already in the works, I haven't heard yet. Last year we had it at the Great Dane in Fitchburg, and had a decent turn out. I would like to see us have an event again this year, so am willing to do what I can to make things happen. I'd like to start this conversation now, so we don't have to have things happen last minute like last they did this past year.

Please chime into this thread and say if you'd be interested in attending this year, and give any other thoughts you might have. No location or time has been determined yet, but it's traditionally happened in March (before the season starts, of course).

Too bad the Gobbler in Johnson Creek is out of business. That would be a central-ish meeting place for southeast and south central Wisconsin. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

In case we go with a Milwaukee meetup this year, I'll point out that we reserved the back room at Fourth Base on National a few years ago and I thought that went well. Since we were the only ones in the back room, we could geek out over baseball to our hearts' content.

I guess the thing to decide is if we want to go with Milwaukee, Madison, or somewhere in between. I can probably get us a private room for no cost at a cool pub in Fort, but I realize that might be too out of the way for some. Hawing is right that Johnson Creek would be a good location, but I can't think of much in that town. Hiway Harry's is probably a bit too ritzy.

what about having two events- one in Madison and one in Milwaukee? i think having a room for ourselves is a good way to go, no matter where it ends up being. i live in Madison- so preference is there for me. i can also help plan the get-together if you need any help- just let me know.

I vote for Madison as well. The Mason Lounge on Park St would be a cool location. The staff and owner are great, the beer list is excellent, and it is a very chill place. There isn't a private room, but space shouldn't be a problem.

Edit: I texted a member of the staff and they would love to have us. We can even carry in food. Pizza? Relish Tray?

Another option could be doing our own Arctic Tailgate at a park in Madison. Potluck/Grilling, games, and talking baseball.

Hey, we used to live around the corner from the Mason Lounge. I'm pretty sure it was Bennett's (the "porn in the morn" place) when we were in that 'hood. If Falbo Bros. is still on that block as well, there's a pizza option.

I don't know if Mason itself has off-street parking. Maybe jjkoestler knows. When we lived nearby, street parking on and to the west of Park St. wasn't impossible to come by. (Important qualifier: Street parking would be a much steeper challenge if we picked a night when a Kohl Center event is underway. This would include the weekends of 2/24-25, 3/2-3, 3/16-17, and 3/23-24 for WIAA tournament events alone.)

Originally I came to post that the fair thing would probably be to alternate between Madison and Milwaukee, which would make 2012 a Milwaukee year...but I won't lie - I like jjkoestler's suggestion. That said, I'd be equally at ease with a Milwaukee-area location. Again, I'll point out that Fourth Base on National was very accommodating, and has off-street parking.

I'll do whatever the consensus is. I agree that it would be more "fair" to have an event in Milwaukee this year, but if response if primarily from people favoring Madison, I think that's how we will go. There's always the option of doing a separate Milwaukee area event, though someone else would probably have to coordinate that.

Anyway, we'll give it a couple more days to see what thoughts others have.

That would seem to make sense. We should have featured this topic on the front page when it was first posted back on the 30th. It didn't actually get featured until Thursday. A couple more of days of input would seem to make sense. After that, go for it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Thanks for taking care of this.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.
