New Years Eve Thread

Bikeage77

Many people have traditions, some very simple, others elaborate. I'm kinda in between.

My fiance, myself, and a group of friends went out for sushi last year and will be doing that again. Except this year it'll be for lunch. Then there's gonna be 4 bands playing in my friends basement, followed by a boxing match at the Riverwest Public House. Then to a friends house to bring in the new year. Then stumble home at a reasonable enough time so I can watch the Packers on Sunday. Should be a good time.

Wecontemplated doing one of those fancy pants dinner deals with wine tasting, but decided maybe next year. Has anyone done one of those?

What do you do for New Years?

I usually go all out for NYE, but I'm taking it easy this year. I'll probably just hit a house party and then stumble to the bars.

I had a lot of fun at Water Buffalo in Milwaukee a few years back. They did an all inclusive with top shelf booze and food for $100 per person. We ended up bringing a group of 25 or so and basically took over the lower bar for the night. At the end of the night our bartender told us we would have racked up an $8,000 tab if we had not done the all inclusive. I believe Water Buffalo still does something for NYE, but I don't think it includes shots and certain drinks. I feel pretty good about being partly responsible for changing their policies. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

my wife and I have a tradition of just staying home and avoiding any drunk drivers. We watch a couple of movies, enjoy a couple of bottles of bubbly, and have some snacks (wings, crackers and cheese, etc.) to munch on. I know that we're kind of a 9 on the lameness scale but what can I say? The Y2K scare kept us indoors 12 years ago and we haven't gone back!

Seriously, though, please be careful if you go out and DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE! I have 2 friends who have been in serious car accidents when hit by a NYE drunk driver. They've had 5+ years of physical therapy not to mention surgeries up the wazoo just to have a somewhat normal life again while the drunk guy walked out of the hospital with some scratches and hasn't been seen since!

We do a party with a bunch of couple friends and their kids from our subdivision. Everyone brings a hors d'oeuvres (sp?) to pass, an alcoholic drink to consume and leaves their keys at home because we can all walk home. Good times, funny stories and a tradition building.

New Years Eve is just another day.

Technically it's an eve not a day. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I was going to go see Cage The Elephant in Chicago but changed my mind and decided that dinner and board games with a small group of friends would be better. I did the "club" thing for a while in my 20's but eventually realized how massively overrated NYE is. Best celebrations I've had are with a small group of friends sitting around someone's apartment playing cards and listening to tunes.

It's a working holiday for us. We spend the entire week setting up balloon drops and decorating for NYE so by the time the day rolls around all we want to do is go home and relax. We buy some crab legs or lobster have a glass of wine and try to stay up until midnight.
There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

I can crank up pitchleague's lameness scale to at least 11. Today brought us disappointing UW basketball at the Kohl Center, lunch at Rocky's on the walk home, and I finally put up the film on the back room windows - ahead of the cold front + gale force winds or whatever awaits us Sunday. Life in the fast lane on a Saturday night!

Apart from the April-to-October 9 Brewers' season, 2011 was something of a bust around the hawing household, so I'm not reluctant to see it go.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Lame indeed.

For my own entry into the lame derby, my wife, daughter and I saw a matinee of We Bought a Zoo earlier this afternoon, then on the way home, we stopped by Target to pick up a box of cereal and a 12-pack of diet Coke, then had our NYE dinner handed to us through a drive-thru window (Mrs. H5 went with the Arby's and me and daughter chose McDonald's).

Now I'm sitting on the couch with MLB Network on, watching a rerun of the Gibby Awards. Whee!

Ooh, I think I can win this!

My mother in law is here for the week, and my wife and I are caring for our newborn daughter. It's 10:00 eastern right now and we're struggling to stay awake. I've watched second tier bowl games all day, and I cashed a $3 bottle of sparkling wine.

not wanting to be totally lame, i headed to a bar around 8:30. understandably early, but i have no intentions of driving a car after midnight regardless of sobriety. first bar: "closed for the holidays." second bar: "closed for the holidays." third bar: empty except for me.

just finished off some Bucky Badger cheese spread (I live in TX, so it was awesome to get a taste of home). i'm only going to stay up late because i have night shift on Tuesday and have to adjust my sleep pattern.

Speaking of lame...

I went to my aunt's house (I am 27) and played dominos with my parents, aunts, grandma and my grandma's sister. All of the old ladies dressed up in their best holiday themed pajamas.

Yet I actually had a lot of fun.

Oh man Hawning...we had a pretty good new years...but I was trying to come up with other stuff to do since the past two years we've ended up at the same house. While it's fun, I thought maybe there was some different options of stuff to do...this thread did not help much.
