Gio Gonzalez to Nationals

I wonder if this could make them players for Prince again? I know they are not supposed to be in on Prince but locking up Prince to go with a rotation of Gonzalez, Zimmerman, and Strasburg would be a solid start. Especially with Zimmerman, Morse and Werth.

Geez those are some impressive looking prospects. Still, I'd hate to be an A's fan. Seems like they're always building towards re-building. If the Nats could land Prince they could be really exciting. Phillies, Braves, Marlins, Nats - yeesh, the NL East is super strong all of a sudden.

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

Logan Morrison of the Marlins is tweeting that Prince to Seattle is done deal FWIW.

It's funny that anyone believed that. He followed it up by tweeting, Oh, you guys thought I meant the 1B from Milwaukee. My bad. (I love all of you. Happy Holidays!)

If he ever cuts his walks down, he's a bonafide ace - but how many guys has that been said about?
7.

I hadn't realized how good GioGonzo's ERA numbers are over the past two seasons. It'll certainly be interesting to see how he performs after leaving the Coliseum. Probably not unfair to peg him for somewhere around a 3.75 ERA next season.

Gonzalez has elite talent so I get the deal from the Nationals perspective. However don't let those innings last year fool you, he pitched hurt a big part of the year. I consider him damaged goods so I think the A's did the smart thing by dumping him for prospects.

I don't know that anyone a actually believed Logan Morrison would be breaking the news about Fielder, it was an odd tweet if anything.

Yep, like the Brewers used to be before the last 4-5 years. Make trades to acquire young talents that then would be traded a year or two before they would reach free agency. Rinse and repeat.

Trust me, people were all over it on twitter. Lots of people fell for it.

The A's are in a holding pattern until something happens on their stadium front
Yeah, they really need to get this resolved. Hopefully they will be in San Jose.

I do think this team has a chance to have a surprising year. They have some young power bats that are very intriguing and should be fun to watch if they pan out.

Speaking of the Nationals, if they ended up signing Prince, i think they easily could vault to playoff contender.

Assuming that Strasburg stays healthy all year, their rotation could be pretty damn good. Then if Harper made the team out of spring training and Werth had a bounce back year, their lineup would be significantly better next year. I wouldn't guess on the batting order, but this lineup should make a sizable jump from bottom four in runs scored.

Espinosa

Harper

Zimmerman

Prince

Morse

Werth

Desmond

Romos

The trades involving Gonzalez and Latos show there are alternatives to giving huge long term contracts to veteran pitchers, (who you then you are locked into) to stay competitive. As long as your farm system is deep enough there will always be the Oaklands and San Diego's willing to sell off established young arms just at the point they start to get a little pricy. The other alterantive of course is to develop your own. Washington did both and are now poised to be a playoff team.
