Wandy

MVP2110
What about a Wandy for Wolf trade. To me it makes perfect sense. We get a solid pitcher for 3 more years and they get an expiring in Wolf that they wont have to pay in 2 years. I especially would do this if we don't think Greinke will re sign, although I wouldn't make this trade if it would hinder our chances at that

Heck we mine as well ask for Pence and Bourn as well. Then they wont have to pay all three of those guys.

Hope that was meant to be in blue since neither of those guys are actually on the team.

This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

Wandy is 2 years younger than Wolf. Will cost $10M, $13M and $13M (vesting option). Wolf will cost $9.5M this year.

Just looking at that, its an ok, but not great idea. Would you pay $13M for the last two years of Wolf (decent assumption that Wandy can match that).

But in the big picture, the Brewers must "get cheap" somewhere. Lots of positional players are in arbitration. Gallardo has a long term contract. People want to extend Grienke and maybe Marcum.

With Peralta, Fiers, Rogers (long shot), Thornburg and Scarpetta as possible cheap additions to the starting rotation, I don't see the luxury to have a $13M 3rd or 4th SP.

And before I did this, I would try to sign Edwin Jackson and use Wolf for some other trade bait.

Wandy is basically the same pitcher as Wolf, just younger. I'll take Wolf at one plus an option as opposed to being on the hook for 3 years with Wandy. Doesn't he get an extra year if he's traded as well?

I was all set to jump all over this but it's sort of true. Wandy, however, put up slightly better strikeout/ERA numbers in a comparable park, for a way-worse team. Basically, at this point they are pretty similar though.

That being said, I'm not sure the Brewers aim to get less financially flexible (with Wandy) as they currently are (with Wolf). Honestly, even if Wolf puts up a replica-year in 2012, I let him walk in 2013. Unless he's willing to come back at about 4 million per. Peralta, Jungmann, and Bradley should be approaching at that point. Wolf isn't worth a $10 million dollar club option in 2013. (1.5million buy out)

Would the Astros be willing to eat any of his contract? I'd be all over it if they would eat half. I believe he cleared waivers last season (even with the Yankees & Red Sox needing arms) so that contract must be pretty awful.

Wandy would merit much more in return than Wolf. Houston's already had Wolf once. They need high-ceiling talent and some solid, experienced players to go along with them. Wolf doesn't seem to represent anything in a package that would appeal to Houston -- esp. now that Ed Wade's no longer their GM.
