Brewers Projected 2012 Payroll

ramssuperbowl99
A. Ramirez deal with #[/s]Brewers: $6M in 12, $10M in 13, $16M in 14, $4M buyout on mutual option for 15. $6M deferred in third year. #[/s]MLBhttp://twitter.com/#%21/search?q=%23MLB

Per Ken Rosenthal

so he's only costing the Brewers 6 million in 2012, not 12 million.

Terrible deal from Brewer perspective. They will be paying $16 million for him when he's 36?

Yes, but if you consider that Braun will still be a bargain at $10M in 2014, it doesn't look as bad when you put them together.

Honestly, I think it's a mistake looking at individual years of the deal instead of the present value of the deal as a whole. Yeah, he'll be overpaid in 2014. And he could be significantly underpaid in 2012. I'm not necessarily a fan of extravagant structuring of a deal, but the present value of the contract is really the bottom line. If you have to toss in $6 million to trade him in 2014, that probably is better than giving him an extra $6 million in 2012.
