Carlos Lee

Recommended Posts

Signing Carlos Lee would be one of the ways we could become much worse on defense. The only plus I see to that would be getting to hear Bob Uecker call Lee's at-bats on a regular basis. Now, while I don't discount the entertainment value of Mr Uecker, I prefer winning.

If we're going after Carlos Lee we might as well go after Adam Dunn, too!

Assuming Braun is suspended, you start the season with Lee at 1B and Gamel in LF. Once Braun returns, you platoon Gamel and Lee who hit .348/.413/.615 off of lefties last year. Lee is quite nimble at 1B actually.

Under that scenario, both Gamel and Lee would get over 400 AB's.

Carlos absolutely mashed against LHP in 2011. Him or Gamel could also be used to PH. He'd be a great addition if: 1: He didn't cost more than a few million. 2: The Brewers didn't have to give up anything of value. 3: He'd be happy in a platoon role.

I liked Carlos Lee a ton as a Brewer and now he's the same good guy but grossly overpaid. That said, I do wonder if it'd equal things out well enough to trade K-Rod & Hart to Houston for him.

(No, I'm not delirious. I just want more payroll flexibility. And Houston's a match because they have so little proven talent most anywhere on their team.)

Corey Hart has so much more value than Lee... or payroll flexibility. So much more.

Even just Lee for K-Rod is probably a bad deal for the Brewers. Lee's offense has seriously slipped, especially when you consider that Minute Maid Park is one of the best hitters parks in the league.

Sorry if I wasn't clear yet - I want nothing to do with Lee in 2012. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I would rather see what Green can do at 1B than pick up Lee.

Not really interested in seeing what Green can do at 1B. I'm sorry but an Ishikawa like line at 1B is not something I am looking forward to seeing what Green is going to do.

Green is a better hitter than Ishikawa is so I am not sure what you mean.

Both are noodles with the bat at a position that is normally a power position. They both also leave the bench rather weak in terms of power at the plate. I would rather have a no glove 1B than an all glove singles hitting 1B. Green would be fine offensively at 2B but he is about as valuable as Ishikawa is at 1B.

Maybe you are thinking of a different Lee as well because Carlos Lee hasn't hit 30 HR since 2007 and has been steadily declining since then. He is over 35 and does not have a body type I would expect to age well. I think we need to get it out of our heads that 1B is a "power position" or that a guy has to hit at a certain level to be ok at 1B.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Green outhit Gamel in AAA last year, so if you think Gamel was a decent option, then Green should also be a decent option.

Carlos Lee fields the position pretty well, and is probably a .280 avg, 15-20 HR guy. He is not close to being worth what he's being paid, but he's not a bad player. However, I'd like to use these unfortunate injuries to allow some of our young players to get some playing time rather than trading away prospects for a stopgap effort for this year. If we're going to focus on something, I'd see how bad Gonzalez's injury is, and focus on finding a SS, as we don't have any answers there, while we have some options at 1B.

The Brewers are in a tough spot. It's too early to toss in the towel, but at the same time, it's probably throwing good money after bad to rent veteran stopgaps. Then again, the roster now is full of stopgaps.

The one move I'd like to see them make is to bring up Bianchi and give him the full time SS job. My gosh, they aren't going anywhere with Izturis and Maysonet was hitting .214 at AAA. Bianchi may not be a prime prospect, but he's at least young enough to be worth a look in these circumstances. He can't hurt them that much and he might have an upside. Or here's a radical thought. Stick Green at SS just to get his bat in there. He's played both 2B and 3B. I'm sure at some point he played SS in high school.

Clancy is that you? Green is a barely adequate 2B, SS is not in his future.
