Summer Shandy

I hate all Leinie's products, it is all bad beer.

Leinie's was considered third rate beer for a long time. It was classified with the likes of Huber. But they got smart and started to market it well. Their timing was great as they caught the mico brew craze at just the right time. So, bad beer got more advertising and better marketing and all of a sudden it became good beer.

Leinie's has been ahead of the curve usually too. Leinie's Red came out a hair before the whole red beer craze started in the early 90's. Remember all the different red beers?

And then they made Berry Weiss which was way ahead of the "malternitives" and a good way to hide the taste of second run beer. Instead of selling the second and third runs of a beer as a low end brand, as most companies do (Busch is second run Bud, MB is second run Miller, etc) they add flavorings to it. Now something that is cheap becomes something that is highly profitable.

Even their Honey Weiss was a little ahead of the weiss beer craze. Now Weiss' are huge with the likes of Spotted Cow locally demonstrating this fashionable flavor. Personally I don't like Weiss as it's so sweet and lacking any "hoppy" taste.

And now they're taking the formula even further.

They're a smart marketing and branding company more than a good brewery. I give them credit for being ahead of the curve and appealing to the non beer drinker and beer drinker alike.

When my friends were still in college we would buy a pack of PBR and drink it before going out to the bars. The first one goes down rough, but everything tastes like water after that.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

I agree with that [sam Adams being bad], except for the Boston Lager.

One of my friends was here last night with a Sam Adams variety pack. He said all their beer was good, except for the Boston Lager, which he likened to PBR.

And I'm still in the Sunset Wheat tastes like liquid Fruit Loops camp, and won't drink any Leinie's product that doesn't say "Big Butt Dopplebock" on the bottle.

OK, I used to not like beer, but since then I have seen the errors of my ways and I want to try as many as possible. I desperately searched for a beer that would be my gateway brand. The first beer I liked was BerryWeiss and now I can't stand it. It's much too sweet and tastes like grape Crush. Anyway, I guess I'll make a list.

Beers I really like:

Spotted Cow

Leinie's Origional

Blue Moon

Killian's Irish Red

Busch Light

Bud Light

Beers I drink because they are cheap/available:

Milwaukee's Best Light

PBR

Old Milwaukee

Coors Light

Miller Lite

Beers I can tolerate:

Miller High Life

Corona

Budweiser

Beers I hate:

Natty Ice (that is the most vile disgusting beer I've ever tasted)

Beer 30

*I also wasn't a big fan of the Sam Adams product's I've tasted, but it was a relatively small sample size http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

I just got my Leinie Lodge newsletter in the mail and there's an intriguing recipe for something called-

Leinie Chips at Sunset

16-oz can refried beans

15-oz can whole black beans, drained

11-oz can of whole kernel sweet corn, drained

2 (two) 10-oz cans diced tomatoes and green chiles

1/3 cup Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat

1 bag of your favorite large round tortilla chips

1 cup finely shredded cheese

1/2 red onion, finely chopped

1 can green chilies

Combine first five ingredients. Place mixture in the middle of a BIG serving platter. Top the mixture with the last four ingredients. Then place the tortilla chips around the mixture.
