Aramis Ramirez

We'll probably know pretty soon if Doug meant it when he said they were still free to do what they wanted even after the K-Rod fiasco. I'm guessing it's ARam or bust... "bust" = we stick with in-house options. I don't see another bat that would make a big impact like he might... even though I'm sure I won't like what he ends up getting paid.

It looks like the Brewers are really the only fit for Ramirez. With the Red Sox being stuck with Ortiz, I highly doubt they will trade him, and Youkilis there really are not that many teams available that would be interested in Ramirez. The Angels made their big splash with Pujols and Wilson I don't really see them going after another player like Ramirez. Maybe the Marlins might go after Ramirez but they would have to trade Hanley first for that to happen. The Phillies if they sign Rollins will be out of the running for Ramirez. So who else other than the Brewers would have interest in Ramirez?

I'm thinking Ramirez is going to get a 3-year $36m deal from the Brewers and it is basically going to be the best offer he will get and maybe even the only offer he will get. If it is the only offer he gets I am wondering if the Brewers could actually get Ramirez on a discount at $10m a year for 2-years with a mutual option for a 3rd year.

I'm guessing we can get Aram cheaper now. Either two years only or three years and no more than 10k per year. Now that the winter meetings are done, his price should come down. I'm hoping anyway.

That would be awesome if we could get him for only 10k per year, but I think there is a veterans' minimum. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

i can't stand deferring money. I would also not do the stupid baseball strategy of backloading the contract. I'd just offer him 3 years at $36 million ($11 million per year) with a $3 million buyout of an $11 million option

I believe ARam is our final big addition this offseason... I honestly think Mark & Doug have something up their sleeves and will make it work to get Ramirez playing 3B and hitting 4th next season in Milwaukee... I mean what is not to like about this lineup...

Hart - RF

Morgan - CF

Braun - LF

Ramirez - 3B

Weeks - 2B

Gamel - 1B

Gonzalez - SS

Lucroy - C

I really like that lineup!!

The following would my off season moves going forward:

1. Sign ARam (3yr/$33MM) - Provides Crew with a solid middle of the order bat.

2. Sign Punto (2yr/$2.5MM) - Gives them a super utility player to replace Counsell/Hairston Jr

3. Resign Siato (1yr/$2MM) - A solid 7th inning option who can share the role with a younger reliever (Braddock or Kintzler)

4. Non-tender McGehee and Loe - Provides the Brewers with roughly $4MM in payroll relief.

These moves allow the Brewers to fill all of their current needs and help them stay closer to their budget (roughly $95.5MM depending on arbitration raises).

Rotation: - $35.45MM

Gallardo ($5.5MM)

Greinke ($13.5MM)

Marcum ($6.5MM)

Wolf ($9.5MM)

Narveson ($450K)

Bullpen: $14.3MM

Axford - CL ($450K)

KRod - SU ($9MM)

Siato - MR ($2MM)

Braddock - MR ($450K)

Kintzler - MR ($450K)

Parra - MR ($1.5MM)

Estrada - LR ($450K)

Lineup: $40.4MM

Hart - RF ($9MM)

Morgan - CF ($1.5MM)

Braun - LF ($6MM)

ARam - 3B ($11MM)

Weeks - 2B ($10MM)

Gamel - 1B ($450K)

Gonzalez - SS ($2MM)

Lucroy - C ($450K)

Bench: $5.35MM

Maldanado - C ($450K)

Green - IF ($450K)

Punto - IF ($2MM)

Gomez - OF ($2MM)

Schafer/Gindl - OF ($450K)

I definitely think this team could compete for another division title.

The Brewers are a favorite for Ramirez for a couple reasons according to his agent,

1.) Milwaukee is located a couple hours from Chicago where his family wants to stay. That's a big deal to Ramirez.

2.) The Brewers are a contending team, and he wants a ring.

I'd bet the Brewers could get Ramirez at a discount. The Brewers could probably get an even bigger discount if Ramirez doesn't have any other teams interested in him.

I'm hoping that it's just a matter of time until we see ARam. He would make our line-up so much flexible. We could use Lucroy in the 2 hole finally! Make it happen MA and DM!

I think Lucroy is the perfect #8 hitter...

But I'm definately ok with this as well tho...

1. Hart

2. Lucroy

3. Braun

4. Ramirez

5. Weeks

6. Gamel

7. Gonzalez

8. Morgan

I wouldn't mind ARam if the cost/years aren't too much. I would probably top out at 3/33 but I would rather do 2/24 with a team/vesting option to make it 3/36. I've also mentioned a few times that I think ARam should play 1B at least once a week so Green can get some starts at 3rd. I hope they find a way to get Green at least 250-300 AB this year.

Does anyone else feel "icky" for advocating or getting excited about signing ARam? Behind Pujols and Yadi, ARam is/was my least favorite player in MLB. Still hard to wrap my head around the idea of cheering FOR him. I do think his bat would go a long ways in improving the offense once Prince signs elsewhere, but it just feels so wrong to want him.

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

For some reason I never had a big problem with him. Definitely dislike Yadi the most and Pujols too. I think my most "hated" Cub would probably be Soriano.

Yeah I agree, never hated on Ramirez all that much. I actually felt a teensy bit bad when he broke his arm against us a couple years ago.

I'm pretty much all in on him though, bring him on. There's risk (like with any FA) but if healthy he's an impact bat, even if he's on the decline. He can still get you quality out of the 4 or 5 hole (depending if they want to bump up Weeks) and he can play 3b at least slightly better then Fatty McGehee.

I'd love a lineup of:

Morgan

Hart

Braun

Ramirez

Weeks

Gamel

Gonzalez

Lucroy

I love Ramirez, he hits like crazy at Miller Park and if he's on a winner I think "he will try that much harder". 3 for $36 million is would be absolutely as high as I would go though.

Greinke is going to cost minimum 5 for $90 in FA next year, maybe more. This guy will be a contract drive this year for sure.
