Gio Gonzalez

I see the A's made him available and the Marlins are after him. Wonder what it would take to get him? He's had 2 All star years and is a Super 2. If you could sign him to a YO like 4 year deal we'd have a real nice rotation and would only have to sign either Greike or Marcum .

I have been thinking about whether Gamel and Green would get him. Under the idea that Doug (unfortunatel in many of our books) would prefer signing guys like Aramis Ramirez and Derreck Lee after Prince leaves, both of those two may be expendable. It's been said that the A's want bats, so those two could work.

I would love to get him, but I think it will take way more than that to get him. He's had two almost ace like seasons and is only 25 and is locked up until 2016.

I've read where the A's are looking for a haul similar to what they got from the Diamondbacks in 2007 for Dan Haren. That deal involved 5 prospects going to the A's, including two in Baseball America's top 40 at the time, Carlos Gonzalez and Brett Anderson.

Not sure the Brewers have the quantity or the quality the A's are looking for.

Brewers have guys that could get perhaps a Brandon McCarthy from the A's, but not Gio Gonzalez.

Gamel and Green is not close.

They asked for Morrison or Stanton according to MLBTR. Which is about right IMO. In fact, if I were the Marlins I would've given them Morrison and hung up before they changed their minds.

The Brewers are a bad match in this case. I don't think there's anything we'd give up to be able to get him.

I too think they could to better than Gamel and Green. The fact that they're willing to deal him I think speaks volumes about their stadium/financial situation though. At this point if nothing gets resolved they really need guys that can even just fill out their roster who are MLB quality. The Reds and Royals would be much better matches in my opinion.

Here's my video game type trade:

Gamel, Green, Axford, Schafer, Narveson for Gio and Balfour

Gio's control is quite concerning. He might end up being Jonathan Sanchez 2.0, not that that's horrible just not all that great.

Then who plays 1st, 3rd, closer, 5th starter, possible 5th OF? The last two might be easy to fill and possibly even closer, but it would be hard to match Axford's production. The Brewers don't really have anyone else in the system ready to step in at 3rd/1st and they can't really afford to add anyone via free agency, at least not at both positions plus SS.

Maybe if the Brewers were to include Hart with Gamel and either Thornburg or Peralta it might get done. I'd much rather have Gio than Corey Hart

If they could do this without giving up Peralta, I'd be all over it. I would then look to lock up Greinke and trade Wolf or Marcum (preferably Wolf) for a RF/1B (or play Gindl/Schaefer in RF and sign a 1B). Having a top 3 of Yo, Greinke, and Gio would be amazing. Unfortunately, it won't happen.

I think it would take Gamel, Green & Peralta to get Gio, and maybe not even that... and no, I'm not advocating such a trade
More like Gamel, Peralta, Thornburg, and Fiers.

Doubt that gets it done.

According to Olney, discussions with the Yankees START with Jesus Montero. And that won't do it. He's extremely valuable.

If the A's are asking for Montero plus, I have a hard time believing they would have taken just Morrison.

Olney later reported that Morrison wasn't part of the discussion. As I said in an earlier post, Miami would've been crazy not to say yes and hang up before Beane changed his mind.

Kelbysdaddy[/b]]A's are also shopping trevor cahill. i think he's due for a breakout.

I'd love me some Cahill. Definately one of my bigget man crushes. Maybe it's time to get at little creative now that K-Rod's in the fold.

Gamel, Peralta, Schafer, Axford for Cahill and Pennington

Trade Wolf for cheap mlb ready relief pitcher. Trade for Morales.

Too much IMO. I know Cahill is still young but his 09 and 11 seasons were just about average, especially when you consider he pitches half his games in a pitcher's park. I think Peralta could be just as good as Cahill. I think Gamel deserves his shot and Morales hasn't played in a year and a half. Schafer should be a solid 4th OF and Axford is obviously incredibly valuable with his contract.

I don't disagree with any of what you said. Now with Gonzalez we don't need a shortstop, at least short term. It was really a very spur of the moment post. I do really like Cahill though. His stuff seems like it should get better results. I watch him pitch and I think Brandon Webb, but his results clearly aren't there (yet). I'm looking forward to seeing Peralta in our rotation sooner than later and he very could well end up as good as Cahill.

It'll be interesting to see if anyone ponies up enough to get Gio or Cahill. They both should require a substantial return.
