They scored 65 points, that should be more than enough for this Wisconsin team to beat Iowa. Their defense was terrible, utterly terrible, and Jordan Taylor didn't show up at all.

As an aside, I believe that was the first time (when I wasn't working there) that the Badgers lost a home game at the Kohl Center that I attended.

They shot 32% overall and 9.7% from 3 (on 31 attempts!). How can anyone blame the defense more than the offense in this game?

Obviously, the offense was part of the blame, but so was the defense. Their inability to stop Iowa in transition really hurt them. The defense gave up 30 more points than their season average (obviously low from the horrible teams they've played thus far), and Iowa scored right at their season average, UW shouldn't be letting ANYONE score at their season average.

Why is it so hard for teams to win at the Kohl Center? I have never been there so maybe I'm wrong but it appears to me that the student section isn't that close to the floor and the crowd that is close to the floor are mostly old people that rarely get up and cheer. They are currently playing MI St and there is hardly any crowd noise at all.

I feel like all I ever wind up doing when I post in these discussions is poop on the Bo Ryan Way. But I'll keep that one-dimensional tonight & say that all I'd really like to see is for Bo to recruit great athletes. If you're going to have guys that simply can't score (like they currently do), at least let them be athletic freaks so they can maybe throw down on someone or just legitimately attack the rim.

I'd love to see guys like Wilson get more PT.

The only positive to your point is it looks like this years freshman and the next two classes have some of the best players Bo has recruited. Dekker is considered by some to be a top 20 recruit. He gets to the rim all the time. Bronson Koenig is right up there as well. They beat out UNC for Koenig. They both seem to get to the lane with ease. Not to turn this into a race thing but if their skin was a different color people would be even more excited about them. From this years freshman class, Marshall looks really quick. He is a Chicago kid. Traevon Jackson looks solid but more in the Jordan Taylor mold. Kaminsky is a typical UW big but moves well and Uthoff who is red-shirting is supposed to be the best of the class. Depending on how they round out the 2012/2013 classes it will easily be Bo's most athletic group. Dont know if it will translate into wins.

Last night was way less about getting to the rim as at was missing open shots. They missed a ton of wide open threes and free throws. They actually drove consistently and picked up a lot of fouls but they couldnt hit shots. A team without many attacking guards who cant hit threes is going to lose a lot

This team looks really ugly when they are missing shots. However they can beat anyone in the country if they are making them. They may finish in the 4-6 range in the B10 but they are more than capable of getting hot and making a run in the B10 and NCAA tourney. They could also go 1 and done fairly easily as well. I agree that they really need some more team athleticism because outside of Taylor no one can get to the rim off of the dribble. Obviously that being the main reason they rely on the 3 so much.

jason21nl[/b]]Well, I'm pretty sure that was one of the most heartbreaking losses ever.

I didn't watch the entire game. I was doing some flipping. Saw that it was close at half time. Saw the end of regulation and most of the OT. I'm not sure I would categorize it as heartbreaking. They were down by what?...7 or 8 with less than a minute to go (am I remembering that correctly?). The fact that they came within a tenth of a second from tying it and going into another overtime was somewhat of a minor miracle. If Michigan State would have lost that game, I think it would have been much more of a heart breaker for them.

They were down 6 with 20 seconds left. It was a miracle they had a shot to tie. I was at the ballgame, and not even being shown a review really sucks. They easily could've put it up on the scoreboard, after the call was made, to show people (and, protect the referees from being berated).

But considering the Rose Bowl, followed by that game, it was pretty disheartening few days for Wisconsin sports.

The student section is behind the backboard that the opposing team heads towards in the second half. It does get pretty darn loud during opposing possessions in the second half. You just can't hear it on TV.

When the lower bowl decides to make noise, it can be really, really loud. The problem is, a simple timeout stops them from making any noise (which Izzo did to perfection in the game yesterday).

As an aside: Jordan Taylor finally looked like Jordan Taylor.

Sorry I didn't wave at you, Baldkin. Our seats are between the student section and the visitors' bench, so we didn't have a great view of Ryan's shot at all. The MSU bench occupants were all standing. My first thought was mild surprise that they counted it - seemed to me the hoop light went on just before the ball left his hands. Then I used the stoppage-of-play time before the would-be second overtime to use the bathroom, and saw on the concourse TVs that they were questioning where Ryan's foot was (i.e. 2 points or 3). Then on the radio call they called the timing into question.

Oh, and in terms of disheartening, Baldkin, you forgot Saturday's basketball game with Iowa, which we also attended. Here's hoping this means more sports mojo for Wisconsin's professional teams in 2012?

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

The only thing I can see in that picture is that Bo Ryan is 'bout to keel somebody.

And Hawing, you must've been really close to where I was. We were 3rd row of the student section, right by MSU.

I don't think the guys they have are good shooters, so to me, it is about getting to the rim, or at least attacking the basket. Not that they have the personnel to do either, but it's gotten so old to see everyone aside from Taylor standing around & waiting to jack a 3.

Anyone know if they might reschedule the game on the 15th? With the Packers game at 3:30, that place is gonna be empty at 5pm.

Oddly enough Gasser and Brust are supposed to be very good shooters. Bruiser was much better from 3 last year. Kaminsky can shoot well. Taylor can only shoot threes off the dribble which is really weird. I can see your point about needed to get to the rim, but outside of Tayler I dont see it happening.

A month ago Marquette and Wisconsin both looked like they were heading for solid seasons. My how things have changed. Two home losses in a row for Wisconsin. Marquette lost to LSU, got blown out at home by Vandy and now just blew a 17 point lead to lose to Georgetown. Rough month for bball in the state of Wisconsin

Yeah, it's not going to be happening, and neither is those guys filling up the basket with 3's. My point was that Ryan has recruited a roster of unathletic guys who can't really shoot that well, and I hate it. Jordan Taylor is the only Badger who can do anything close to creating his own shot, and even Taylor isn't all that gifted in that regard. This is going to be a looooong, disappointing season.

Evans has really stepped up in this regard this season, and Bergerren is a beast on the post. What irked me the most about the MSU game was they just stopped throwing the ball into the post in the second half. UW will never have 5 guys who can go isolation and play one on one basketball. The problem is, Gasser and Brust have both completely stopped being aggressive (I don't think Brust pump faked once against MSU even though every time he caught the ball to shoot, guys were charging and jumping at him).
