Chone Figgins

Hotdog
Have read that the Mariners may be willing to pick up part of his salary if they find a taker. Is it worth a couple of minor leaguers to see if he could regain the form of his Angel days. Can play 2B, 3B, and CF.

I've brought his name up before. I like the idea, but I think you'll find you won't get many takers on this one. Maybe they could work something out where we take on all Figgins salary and they include Ryan.

McGehee, Morgan, and Narveson for Figgins and Ryan?

Maybe Figgins is one of those guys that's just gonna sit on his payday and not care, but I'd be willing to give him a fresh start and hope he can turn it around. I'd love the Figgins of a few years back in the two hole playing good D at 3rd.

Whoa I think you would be really overpaying with that package. I doubt it would take more than just McGehee and a middling prospect. They are practically going to be giving him away. That being said I will would rather have McGehee and hope for a bounceback year.

A poster in another thread linked to a Melvin quote which said we aren't going to spend $3MM on a utility guy (referencing Hairston) who is not going to play everyday. Unless Figgins is going to be the everyday SS, I don't think he's an option.

"The most successful (people) know that performance over the long haul is what counts. If you can seize the day, great. But never forget that there are days yet to come."

Yeah, I'm not really all that high on Figgins bouncing back, I thought it might be worth it IF they'd included Brendan Ryan to solve our SS issue. I suppose they could just pay Furcal the same amount of money it would cost to have Figgins on the team.

Figgins was absolutely, brutally terrible in 2011. He should not cost anything. To even consider giving back decent, cheap players is a non starter.

The only way you take Figgins is if you get most of his contract paid by Seattle. I believe he'll make around $10 million per year in 2012 and 2013 (and there's an option of some kind, if I recall). I could see taking on $2-3 million on the chance he can rebound, but at 34 that's not a likely scenario. Perhaps you take a little more on if they sweeten the offer - give us Ryan to play SS. But otherwise, the Mariners are lucky to get a live body sent to them, even if they pay 70% of Chone's salary.

I loved Figgins back in 2009. Thought he would be perfect at 3B for the Crew. He got on base. Good leadoff guy. He played great defense at 3B.

I guess the only thing I can say is that if he could rebound to his 2010 performance, he'd be better than McGehee was last year. But that's not much. I would think you could do that with Green (or McGehee himself, if he could rebound a bit).
