The infielder market continues to evolve with 2B Mark Ellis joining the dodgers.

Each of these signings will affect the Brewers as they look at a SS, plus a utility infielder type, such as Hairston.

 

The market seems to be pretty lucrative.

 

Thankfully, there are have not been any 3 years deals for these kinds of players.

Carroll gets on base way more and can play SS. He's already underpaid, after one more signing. I'd rather have Farris for $400K than Ellis for $4M, and yes, I realize Eric isn't very good.

 

Ellis is a solid defender, but his range will be tough to maintain as he gets older.

Signings like this is throwing money away. Since his one big year (7 years ago), Ellis has been no better than ordinary. He's easily past his prime and a marginal starter.
