Chase Headley - My number 1 target in offseason

Headleys Career splits:

Away: .303/.364/.441 with a BAbip of .374

Home:.229/.319/.336 witha a BAbip of .297

For comparison

McGehee career splits:

Away: .258 .305 .400 BAbip of .279

Home: .273 .335 .453 BAbip of .303

More specifically @ Miller Park:

Headley - .278/.361/.463 BAbip of .293

(Also the stadium he has the most HR in outside of PETCO)

I just think if you take him out of PETCO and you have at very least the player that Casey has been before this year with much improved defense. Add in the fact that he is a switch hitter to better balance out our lineup as well.

Lineup

RF - Hart R $9M

CF - Morgan L $1.6M

LF - Braun R $6M

2B - Weeks R $10M

3B - Headley S $3M

1B - Gamel L $.4M

C - Lucroy R $.4M

SS - Barmes? R $3.5M

Pitcher

Bench

Green - 2B/3B $.4M

McGehee 3B/1B $3M

JHJ - Utility $2.5M

Gomez - OF $2M

Malnado - C $.4M

Total = $42.2M

Pitchers

Gallardo $5.5M

Greinke $13.5M

Marcum $6M

Wolf $9.5M

Narveson $.4M

Axford $.4M

Saito $2.5M (resign)

Kinztler $.4M

Loe $1.25M

Estrada $.4M

Parra/Stetter $1M

Rodgers? Braddock? $.4M

Total = $41.25M

Total Payroll = $83.45M

I think that is a 90 win team and could contend next year.

If you can do if for just Thorburg who is 22 and barely made it out of A+ ball then I would. Peralta and Gennet are the on "Untouchables" to me.

I disagree. Pitching is much harder to find than hitting. GM's don't like to trade top pitching prospects for a middle of the pack 3rd baseman. (He fits in as the 12-16 best 3rd baseman in baseball) Why trade your top pitching prospect(s) for a pretty good hitting, solid defensive player (nothing great just solid). If your going to dip into the water, man up add a few more prospects and get a top guy. We can find another Headley, we can't just grab another legit pitching prospect off a tree.

That is exactly what I was saying. Any GM in baseball would love to trade away a Headley type and get back top pitching prospects. I'm not advocating the Brewers trading away pitching

...Rodgers? Braddock? $.4M...
I don't think the Packers' QB is a bullpen option.

I do think it's kinda funny how Mark Rogers' name seemingly has been misspelled more frequently since the Packers won the Super Bowl last winter with Aaron Rodgers at QB.

After watching tonight's dismantling by the Packers (granted, MN's having a lousy, lousy year and few teams could've made it this easy for them to look so good) . . . I think Rodgers would do pretty well out of the bullpen for Milwaukee. The guy sure doesn't miss often and especially tonight sure made the other team look highly inferior. Those would be good things to be able to say about any possible new addition to our bullpen.

I've brought up Chase Headley in a couple of other threads, but I agree if he is available and wouldn't cost a ton, I would absolutely love to have him on the Brewers. He may not have a lot of power, but he is good defensively and can get on base. I think his numbers would improve dramatically w/ a move to Miller Park from Petco.

You don't trade young pitching unless you get pitching back. Peralta and Thornburg are very valuable guys for the Brewers to keep, not to trade. Having both of them take up 2 rotation spots at pre-arby prices from 2013-2105 allows money to be spent elsewhere. The Brewers can't afford to have 4 of their starters making $7 million or more every year. That doesn't leave enough for holes elsewhere in the lineup and the bullpen.

No way that Thornburg is in our rotation by 2013. He barely pitched above A+ ball this year. With the Brewers track record he will probably not get a shot til 2014. Other than Gallardo there haven't been that many pitchers who flew through the system.

2012 - AA

2013 - AAA

2014 - AAA/MLB

Fiers and Peralta are definitely ahead of him and I doubt that they don't sign a pitcher next offseason (or resign Greinke/Marcum).
