Pujols meeting with Marlins

Brewer Fanatic Contributor

I know it's just a preliminary meeting, but the Marlins signing Pujols would be fantastic.

What would make it even better would be a one hour ESPN special in which Albert spills "The Decision" by saying "I'm taking my talent to Miami!"

Lebron would probably immediately jump on the Marlins bandwagon and be seen sitting behind home plate in a Pujols jersey. The Cardinals fans would hate Pujols as much as Cleveland hates Lebron. Lebron would rejoice for not being the only superstar to bolt to another city, and it would actually be the same city, lol.

..and the Cardinals would get a 2nd round pick for losing the best player in baseball.

Which is why the compensation system in MLB is a joke.

Agreed. The MLB shouldn't be considering eliminating draft pick compensation, they should just overhaul the system. It should be more like the NFL. I hate the ranking system they use.

Cardinals got 11 seasons including most of his prime from the best player in baseball and never paid over $15 million to him in any one season and won two World Championships. I wouldn't feel too sorry for them. They do get back a lot more salary flexibility too. They've still got a pretty decent club and money to spend to improve it.

I don't feel sorry for them either, but the joke of the system doesn't discriminate. I wasn't laughing when Milwaukee got stuck with a 2nd rounder when they lost C.C. Sabathia, who at the time could have been considered one of the best pitchers in the game. Nor will I be laughing when Milwaukee gets a 2nd rounder when Fielder signs with a team in lower half of the standings. I like the idea of the compensation system, but it needs to be overhauled.

9 years, 225 M is what I read. Pujols just might go for something like that if it's true. I don't think the Cards can offer that much with the other obligations they have, and I'm not sure even Albert Pujols is worth that kind of money at his age.

The thought of paying a 40+ year old Albert Pujols $25MM+ per year is pretty frightening. Whoever signs that deal had better hope they win the World Series in the next few years to justify the deal, or hope that they have the same "magic water" Tony La Russa serves which allows Pujols to heal from a broken arm in two weeks, and allows every has-been to suddenly find All Star form.

Doubtful; he's brought them two World Series titles and another NL pennant, not to mention his multiple MVPs.

If anything, Prince=LeBron is the better analogy. Our guy's going to go get paid in a bigger market after not winning much of anything here (relative to our history two playoff appearances are something, of course, but still).

IF that figure is true, let's hope Pujols signs ASAP not only to get him out of the division but also to hopefully prevent Florida from being in on the Reyes sweepstakes. This would be a huge huge win for the Crew. Now, if the Marlins go and blow their wad on both Pujols and Reyes....we've seen that song and dance and we can expect plenty of Marlins coverage this season.
