David Wright???

Some talk about him possibly being traded. Is he a consideration buying low on the basis a FA OF is easier to pick up then an IF this year? Would Green and Hart be enough. Mets slash some dollars.
No definitely not enough. Maybe if the Brewers took on all of Bay's contract also and then that would be pushing it. I know a lot of people are down on Wright and believe he is overrated but when Wright was healthy he was a rather productive player putting up some very impressive numbers. It will take a lot to get Wright and the Brewers do not have the prospects to get him but it is fun to wonder what it would take to get him.

In order for your trade proposal to work (I am not even sure this would be enough) the trade would have to look more like this:

Brewers trade Green, Hart, Peralta, and Gennett
Mets trade Bay and Wright

Peralta has to be considered untouchable. He is exactly what this team needs and we cannot afford to trade him. If this season shows me anything it's that this team lives and dies with pitching. There are going to be some really serious questions about the rotation in the coming months with three possible free agents after the 2012 season. Peralta should be the guy that helps ease the burden, not yet another prospect traded away for an expensive veteran. I have no problem trading Hart and Green and any other position prospect to get Wright. But I do not include Peralta and would rather not include Thornburg.

Pretty much every team will live and die with pitching.. unless your the '95 Indians or something and even then their lack of pitching got them in the end. And I agree, you can't give up the potential of Peralta for 1-2 years of Wright. I have to think IF the Mets were to deal Wright that Nate has got close to what it would take. I like what the Brewers did last year to acquire pitching even if it was for some of our best prospects because I think they have the potential to extend at least one, but they cannot continue to gut the farm system for expensive talent.

I for one love David Wright and think a 3-4-5 of Braun, Wright, Weeks would be excellent moving forward. Additionally, I do not believe he will cost as much as Reyes to sign after 2012 and could bring a good amount of production to the lineup once he is removed from Citi National Park. I'm on board with acquiring him as long as Peralta or Thornburg are not included in the deal. This team will have to supplement it's expensive talent with cheap replacements like Lucroy at C, Gamel at 1B and Peralta & Thornburg in the rotation if Greinke and Marcum leave after 2012.

Wright hits better at home, so expecting an increase when he leaves NY seems like thinking with your heart and not your head. Add in declining production his past three seasons, that he's past his mythical peak, and he's coming off an injury, there's plenty to be wary of.

I don't think McClendon/Kintzler have value in that type of deal. Wright makes $15M this year and has an option for $16M next...I'd have trouble dealing much for him, as I feel he is overpaid by $3-5M per, given his injury risk and projected production. Signing Ramirez makes far more sense, as does Green and a platoon partner.

Maybe if I could see how his Citibank to Miller numbers might be affected...

He's also -30 runs over the past three years in both UZR and DRS. Injuries have probably hurt his range, but he's a very subpar defender at this stage.

He has the choice to void that $16M as well if he's traded, so it could be just a one year rental. I agree that if we're looking for a 3B, Ramirez makes far more sense to just try and sign than trading for Wright does.
