The Braves are eating $10 million of the $15 million they owe Lowe.

Nice move for the Braves to actually get a player and $5 million back out of that horrible contract. Addition by subtraction.

Lowe had good peripherals last year (his FIP and x-FIP falling in line with his career numbers) and has been a valuable back-end rotation starter. To pay $10 million for a guy just to go away and only get back someone who is at best a LOOGY isn't that impressive to me. The Braves have younger, better options though and the extra $5 million will obviously help them elsewhere, but I think Cleveland did pretty well here.

Braves make room in their rotation for 22 year old Randall Delgado....he was impressive in September with an era of 2.83 after moving into the starting rotation for the injured Hanson.....

 

The Braves media thinks the team will try to move Jair Jurrgens for an OF ....that would make room in the rotation for 21 year old Julio Teheran, their top prospect.....

 

The Braves are really strapped financially since being bought by Comcast.....they have struggled to stay withing a $90 million budget after it peaked at $110 million just a few years ago....they only have about $10 million available to fill the starting shortstop, two bullpen & a reserve infielder positions

 

The Braves also picked up Eric Hinske's $1.5 million option & cut ties with Nate McLouth by executing a $1.25 million buyout option.....

Why do they need two bullpen spots? They only use O'Flaherty, Venters and Kimbrel anyways.

and that's the rub, I think they want to use those three cats less so they don't run out of gas in September like they did this year..... part of the problem was their horrible offense because it seemed to this Braves fan that every game was very close in the late innings which puts pressure on your closer & top setup men....and after Moylan, Linebrink & Sherrill got hurt they were screwed....

 

The Braves have a couple of highly rated prospects who might be ready ....plus Kris Medlen is back from Tommy John & actually pitched well in his Sept comeback; they might move him to the pen since there probably isn't room for him in the rotation
