Milwaukee Bucks 2011/2012

GB12
5 years just under $40 million the Bucks have offered Ersan. If he signs for that and it causes the Bucks to trade or amnesty Gooden the contract will be the steal of the century.

I just forsee that Gooden will still start at PF, and get backup C minutes on top of that.....

i think Gooden did an OK job last season will forced to fill in at center. the problem is that the bucks overpaid for him and he could have never lived up to his contract. i don't see Kohl eating it. I don't think Ersan is resigning with the bucks and would guess now he is going back to Europe where there are no limits on what he can be paid and for how many years.

I would like to see Gooden gone only so the young 4's we have would actually get consistent PT, i just don't see it happening.

the basics of the amnesty clause, since the bucks are under the cap, i don't see it helping them much at all to do this with gooden.

Each team is permitted to waive 1 player and have 100% of the player’s salary removed for Cap and Tax purposes

- Once a player is waived under the Amnesty Clause, they are placed in a modified waiver process available only to teams under the Salary Cap.

- Teams with room under the cap can then submit a claim on players by bidding to pay a portion of the player’s previous salary

- Once part of a player’s salary is claimed by a new team, the old team will continue to pay the remaining amount (though it won’t count against the Cap or Tax).

I always understood it that you could take a player of the salary cap but you still had to pay him. It appears that is mostly correct.

Keep waiting for the Ersan decision; I imagine Hammond is waiting as well so he can move on one way or the other.

I would be interested to see the impact of the political and financial turmoil on Ersan's choice about going back to Europe. I remember a few years ago when articles were written about international sports figures wanting to be paid in Euros for some of the tennis, golf, and racing events. Now with the Euro in the tank vs. dollar and very real threats of massive tax increases on wealthy individuals I can imagine where being offered more money to play in Europe may not seem so attractive, especially in countries like Greece, Spain, Italy, Russia and a deteriorating France.

I never knew about the amnesty waiver process until now. I wonder if a team like the Bucks could put in a waiver claim for a guy like Elton Brand at league minimum or close to minimum and then trade to a contender that is over the cap.

5/45 for Ersan, and I'd wager he doesn't even start this year. Skiles will start Gooden at PF, play him 15 minutes there, and 15 minutes as the backup C.

Gooden, Ersan, Sanders, Udoh, Henson, Moute.

There's already rumors that trades are in the works to clear up the logjam. There's a very good chance Gooden won't even be here, and wouldn't surprise me if one of Sanders and Udoh is gone too. Ilyasova will start at the 4, and Mbah a Moute and Henson will get backup minutes there, and Sanders or Udoh will backup at the 5. Likely some combo of Gooden, Udrih, and Sanders/Udoh will be traded for a wing.

I'm not sure that deal is going to look so hot in a few years.

Considering 5/35 was the best offer he got, and they decided to pay him an extra 2 mil a year as the Milwaukee tax.... yeah. Horrible deal.

I will believe it when I see it. There were rumors of plenty of trades last year at the deadline, none of which came to fruition. The idea that any other team would actually want Gooden would come as a shocker to me.

Don't worry, though, Ersan is our young guy, so it's okay to overpay him.... just like Redd, Gadz, Mo Williams, Tim Thomas....

I don't think it's really a bad deal money wise (I think Ersan can be a very good third option, and those guys make ~9 million), but I just don't like it for the bucks. I don't like the idea of sacrificing any long term flexibility for a good but not great player. I'll withhold judgement until I see if any more moves are made to clear up the PF position, as well as to see the final contract details (maybe there are some option years).

I wouldn't have made the move, but I don't think it's bad. Ersan is 25 so it's for his prime years. Even if he regresses a little from the end of last season (and his 3 pt shooting pretty much has to), he still does a lot of things very well. At 25 I don't think he's going to fall off a cliff any time soon, so his contract is going to stay reasonable (and therefore tradeable).

There are plenty of teams that would take Gooden. The problem is that they'd be taking back a similar bad contract, just a player they actually could use instead of Gooden. Either that or Udrih's expiring or Udoh/Sanders will need to be shipped with him. It wouldn't shock me at all to see Gooden dealt. I think there's a very good chance that it happens.

Yeah, we need a 3, and I hear Corey Magette might be available.

I think they may play Ersan a bit at the 3.

I dont mind the deal. They had to go the extra year to keep him. If (big if) he continues to add to his game, he could become a fairly priced asset if the need comes to flip him

I like the idea of moving Drew and an expiring contract for a swing-man. As pointed out, a "bad" contract at a place of need is easier to tolerate.

Dallas or the Suns makes some sense.

They are signing assets like they have a championship caliber team, or a franchise type player to build around. Instead of compiling assets to get that franchise player (like, y'know, cap space and draft picks), they are giving them away for guys like Stephen Jackson and signing 5 year deals to average PF's like Ersan.

Methinks they are following the Detroit model. They didn't have any superstars and won a title. Granted, that is certainly not the norm but to get a superstar you have to be incredibly lucky in the draft (as in, get the #1, 2, or 3 pick in the right year) or be incredibly attractive to a free agent (i.e. Boston, Miami, LA, etc)
