Milwaukee Bucks 2011/2012

GB12

it's always so interesting to read this thread and see just how quickly things can go from "the Bucks are miserable and will always be miserable" to "hey, the Bucks are sure fun to watch" and then back again.

wait. that's every team everywhere. carry on.

I would still prefer the Bucks to tank rather than getting into the playoffs and being one and done. I would prefer a 10-15 pick which may even still happen if the Bucks make the playoffs (something is definitely wrong with the NBA).

I wouldn't have opposed them tanking either for a high draft pick but that ship has sailed as they won't be tanking and they won't end up with a high draft pick so I might as well root for them to keep on winning, even if it results in one and done.

I was pro tanking, but no way they get a top 5 pick. So I'd rather see a playoff series than get the 9th pick or something.

What's nice is that the bulls and heat both don't have good centers, so I could see the bucks winning a few games in each of those series

Good point on Miami. Might be a tall order to run down Boston for the #7. That said, with Ellis, it does put much more pressure on Chicago's backcourt to defend. Some teams have had luck getting the Bulls to play up-tempo...

The Bucks fortune against the heat is as much tied to the schedule as it is to how they played.

Each time they played, it was the Heat's 3rd game in 4 days. That won't be happening in the playoffs.

The Bucks don't have a road game against a team with a winning record until April 19th. In fact, the Bucks only have two road games left this year against teams that currently have a winning record - April 19th @ Indiana and the last game of the year April 26th @ Boston. They have OKC at home, but no Miami, Chicago, Orlando, San Antonio, Lakers, Clippers, Dallas, or Denver the rest of the way.

Can't it be both? They're fun to watch at this moment, but their future is pretty miserable.

They really are a good passing team. Like 4th in the league in assists I think.

Is there any good reason that Jon Brockman is on the active roster and Jon Leuer isn't? Is Leuer hurt? If not there is no reason to give a guy like Brockman minutes instead of Leuer who I hope is in the long term plans. Leuer must be in the dog house for something

This team isn't good. Sure they may sneak into the playoffs with an under .500 record because the East sucks but their ceiling is a 7th seed and first round drubbing by either the Bulls or Heat. The incompetence under Kohl has been amazing, yet no one seems to call him on it. It's always thanks for saving the team and keeping it here.

The team is basically going to be in limbo because everyone knows Kohl is going to likely sell the team in the next few years (hopefully sooner than later). Also, in the past he was criticized for being too involved with the team, now seems to have backed off. I guess he can't find a proper middle ground for being involved with the franchise.

They're now 2-14 in their last 16 games against teams currently in the playoffs. They aren't going anywhere, and honestly, I'd rather have pick 10 or 11 than pick 16 with a first round exit in 4 or 5 games. They should have blown it up earlier in effort to get an even higher pick.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Bucks would have moved to Minneapolis had Kohl not bought the team. Things were looking very dire for a while there. This does not absolve him from blame for the past ten years of ineptitude (I blame George Karl for a lot of that as well), but it does need to be considered in the bigger picture. It is easy for the proponents of a tank to call Kohl out, but I can imagine that it would be tough for someone who owns a business with a payroll of several million to completely sacrifice the now for a potentially better future. Tanking seems to have worked in OKC, but it took a ton of luck, (and a franchise move by the way) for this to happen. If you tank, you could also end up like Portland (tank ruined by injuries), or Memphis (tank to get a bunch of meh players).... heck, that Vancover/Memphis franchise tanked for the better part of 15 years, for what, two playoff appearances?

The bottom line is that the NBA 'system' plus the culture of the NBA players do not favor Milwaukee. This puts them behind the eight ball from the beginning (along with at least a dozen other teams).

You mean you blame him for leaving? Cause his tenure here represents the best BB Milwaukee saw since the '80s.

He had nothing to do with building that team, and everything to do with completely dismantling it and leaving as a pile of smoldering ash when he left.

Oh, and, 2.5 games back with 17 to play. Not looking good. Ellis looks absolutely horrible as well.
