Milwaukee Bucks 2011/2012

GB12

I know it's just a stupid internet poll, and most time I don't even pay attention to these because the average fan isn't too knowledgeable, but I thought these were quite telling.

Milwaukee just does not care about the Bucks or the NBA. It's only a matter of time before they're relocated.

I find this really sad, because when the Packers and Badgers were sucking for most of the 70's and 80's, the Bucks were really the only thing worth watching in the winter. However, my guess is that outside of a few markets (Salt Lake City, Portland, Miami, LA, etc.) you'd probably get somewhere around the same polling results to this question. I've found that people tend to be pretty vocally apathetic about the NBA.

Many people (msyself included) because disillusioned after discovering that the entire sport was rigged against small market teams like the Bucks in 2000-2001. A new commissioner and a new commitment to fairness could change things, but we all know that isn't happening in this lockout.

I think most of the results are due to the lockout and once it gets resolved people will go to the games. I don't go to nearly as much bucks game for numerous reasons, but I still follow them and watch the games when i can.

The bucks will go out of their way to come up with deals to get people to go I would guess.

This topic is currently named "Milwaukee Bucks 2011/2012?" due to the fact that it seemed to be time to close last year's thread. However, all the messages seem to be about off-the-court issues affecting the league as a whole.

Would it be appropriate to rename this to reflect that it's covering off-the-court issues and start a "Milwaukee Bucks 2011/2012" topic for posts that zero in on the team and its players?

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I think that the Milwaukee Bucks 2011/2012 season will be off the court.....and for plenty of other players as well....so much money, so much free time....

Looks like the small market owners are going to cave (for some reason) and a new CBA agreement will be reached next week. Enjoy these threads, because the Bucks aren't going to be here much longer if the details being leaked about the new CBA are true.

there really isn't much on the court to talk about. There is no free agency until the lockout ends. The team made a couple of moves which has been discussed already. There really isn't any hot stove since everyone's roster is up in the air.

The price for the product the Bucks are producing is also pretty ridiculous. Mom's boss has season tickets in the last row of the downstairs bowl at the Bradley Center and face value on those is higher than face value of a Packers ticket. I just find that so outrageous.

They are getting ripped off then. You can get season tickets in the lower bowl for as low as around $28.

People don't like to talk about it, but the league has the problem of having a "thug" image in the eyes of a big portion of the public. To be blunt, the average white person with money to afford tickets on a consistent basis isn't going to be attracted to the league. It doesn't help that a lot of arenas are in downtown areas that don't always have the best perception of being safe.

I don't know, I wish I could say I care about the NBA. I've tried and the product is just not there for me. The good news is the NBA has the best athletes of the major sports, imo. So the foundation is there if they just let the game sell itself and bring it back to what it should be I think they'd be a lot better off.

1. Stop allowing the players to run the league. Coaches and owners need to take back authority.

2. Let the players and game decide who the stars are going to be, stop trying to shove who you'd like to market as your next poster child of the NBA down everyone's throat and bending the rules for "your stars".

The NBA has lost its integrity in my mind, real or imagined it doesn't matter. The perception is still there. The hidden draft lottery, sketchy officiating, and clearly seeing the players trying harder at the end of the game and in the play-offs are not helping that image. It's just way too predictable. Within the first 3 minutes I'm guaranteed to see a clear-out to a team's "best player", a four step travel, a ticky tack foul sending a star to the line, and a complete mugging of the 10th best player on the floor resulting in an uncontested dunk as the other 9 players stand and watch. Exciting!!

It's absolutely crazy to me that the players and owners have come to this. Why in the world would they wait until the end of the 10 year contract to start negotiations? Do they not realize the damage this is going to do to the NBA's image? I'm a huge Bucks fan, and I love the NBA, but even I will have a hard time giving even a penny of my money to the NBA after this gets resolved.

The NBA was seeing a small resurgence in interest last year. Now all of that is gone especially if the lockout/strike whatever you want to call it continues on any longer. I wouldn't be surprised if this season becomes completely lost there maybe enough time to do a 50 game season but that time window is starting to close really fast. I don't see the NBA being able to bounce back after this nightmare and I am kind of worried that the Bucks are going to be gone from Milwaukee because of this. The NBA is probably going to contract some teams if they can't get the problems with the players worked out. Milwaukee would be the first team to go as the city is not going to build a new arena for the Bucks and it is one of the smallest markets the NBA has.

I agree with trwi, these guys are just dumb. The unfortunate part, is that the loudest opponents are guys that are near the end of their career, and have made their money. The offers aren't going to get better. Maybe they should be getting the 2 NBA players that actually went to college to represent them. As it is, guys with basically a high school education are trying to compete against men who, for the most part, have made billions with their business savvy. This is more lopsided than the Packers-Vikings game last night.

I don't think that the Bucks would be the first target of contraction, not with New Orleans, Sacramento, Memphis and possibly Minnesota in the mix.
Herb Kohl won't let the Bucks be contracted in the near future. The NBA isn't going to mess with a sitting US Senator...granted, one who is retiring soon, but will still have powerful connections.

I cannot get over the fact that after what was probably the most watched and most successful season since Jordan retired the second time, that the owners and players have allowed this to happen.

I think I am one of about 20 remaining Bucks fans in Milwaukee, and I don't think I'll be attending any games this season, or be purchasing season tickets again anytime in the future.
