Wolf has been on. Time to add the insurance runs left on the bases last inning and put the lead into a 4-6 run margin.
I have pointed this out a million times and I will do it again today. There is NO evidence that a starting pitcher who performs well for the first 5-6 innings do better than expected going forward. It's not true. They don't. It's a complete myth.

Wolf is something like a true 3.8 pitcher on average (just guestimating there) and probably a 4.25+ ERA pitcher at this point in a game. Even an average reliever is will perform better on average.

Those are the facts.

a ton of strikes down the middle taken in this game. Lohse was throwing an easy fastball down the middle for the first few innings before anyone thought to start swinging early. i admire their effort to be patient for a change, but once the pitcher knows he has an easy way of getting ahead, some of the guys should be switching things up and swinging on that first pitch.

I've been thinking this all game. The production came when Hariston and Yuni swung early in the count. Braun had a hit deep in the count, but his first two at-bats he took the first two balls right down the chute.

I'll go out on a limb and say I think Wolf should go back out there for the 7th. He's on his game, and the fewer looks the Cardinals get of our bullpen the better. Much the way I think the Brewers will eventually start pounding the St. Louis bullpen if given the chance.
The fewer looks they get at Wolf the better.. when you are up $1000 in Vegas you don't push it all in on one last hand.. take the house money and run.. it still may work out but I prefer to play the odds...

It's like russian roulette. Why keep pulling the trigger when you can rest on the one who got you safely to this point. The more pitchers you use the more likely you are to find the guy who's off his game. And Randy Wolf is definitely on his game tonight. It's exactly why I'm convinced LaRussa's bullpen micro management is gonna bite him in the ass at some point this series.

Gomez, OK. But do we need to take out Weeks for Counsell. If you want to bring in Counsell, why not for Yuni?

Because Yuni has been better with the bat and glove than Rickie as sad as that is

Yuni's glove is as bad as ever. And why not wait until after Furcal to do a DS?

Oh Yuni is still bad but Weeks has looked really bad to me. Slow, lazy actually sounds like Yuni

I am hoping beyond hope this works out and we win.. but I would take 1 or 2 extra runs Hawkins last inning and Saito this inning... LaRussa isn't going to get bit if Roenicke keeps letting pitchers hit with runners on in a close game..
