I give up. The choice was Axford or Rodriguez. You go with the guy you had warming up 1st inning....

With games scheduled the next two days, I can understand why you'd save those guys for a) a key moment in tonight's game or b) in the hopes you have leads in the next two games, you have two fresh relievers.

If we lose 4-3 its on Ron for starting Kotsay plain and simple.

And the terrible first inning pitching by Yo and the quiet offense down the stretch has nothing to do with it.
Kotsay never should have been starting and had he not been Yo gives up 1 run not 4. So that terrible first inning pitching turns in to probably 6 innings of 1 run ball and its 2-1. The offense disappearing means nothing at that point.

There was absolutely no reason to start Kotsay in CF and it cost in a big way.

This is a game we really need to win.
Not really, though it would be nice.
It pretty much is. They put all their eggs in this basket by throwing Yo this game. If they had thrown Wolf this game, they'd at least have Yo vs. Lohse tomorrow and a big advantage there. Instead, they're three outs away from Randy Wolf being the only person standing in the way of the Cards taking a 3-1 lead.
No way Yo doesn't pitch this game.

And the Cards are looking at Kyle Lohse being the only person standing in the way of the Brewers knotting it up (or taking a 3-1 lead). I guess I don't follow what you're saying. You basically wanted to forfeit this game? I mean, it sounds like you're saying Wolf has little chance to do well, which would imply you just wanted a loss today to lineup a better chance at a win tomorrow.

Not to get ahead of ourselves or talk about games other than this one in the IGT, but I don't get the announcers' assertion that Narveson's appearance here means he couldn't pitch in place of Marcum in Game 6. I think his arm should recover just fine from a few pitches.

EDIT: I'm not necessarily advocating for a Marcum benching, I was just confused.

They need to at least split the next two. The way it stands, the Cards were favored to win in both 3 and 4. If they went Wolf then Yo, the Cards would be big favorites in Game 3, but the Brewers would be favored in Game 4. It was the best way to get a win in STL.

Hairston or Yuni are going to have to do it unless Kottaras pinch hits for Lucroy. Lucroy seems like Jason Kendall 2.0 right now; just no punch in the bat at all
Lucroy has been taking a beating behind the plate lately. I'm amazed he can even lift his arms up.

Can you go through the progression of 1 run instead of 4? They batted around that inning, I don't think Yo was pitching nearly well enough to escape with 1 run even if that's an out on the second batter.
