Brewers have serious interest in Jose Reyes?

you're missing the point....the Braves need money to cover salary increases for various players...for example, they want to extend Michael Bourne before he enters free agency after '12 not to mention his '11 salary increase....and they need to find a SS....and find an impact bat for LF if they don't move Prado

No, I'm not. The impact bat would be covered in Hart and they have the corner OF spots taken care of with Hart and Heyward.

If it's a 3 team trade and they move Jurrens and Prado (and prospect(s)) - and just take Hart in return, they'd be shedding salary...... again, I said that Hart/Prado be the base of a trade and with the Braves wanting to move Jurrens as well..... there is a ton of flexibility there. Braves can posture all they want and say they want a Greinke package for him, but if they don't budge off that then they won't be moving Jurrens.

The Braves also already picked up some salary relief in the Lowe trade - not saying they still don't want to shed some additional salary, but if they were acquiring an impact player (like Hart).............. probably a bit more flexible in what they would do.

I'd agree with you on Jurrjens but Prado had a pretty bad year last year (as I pointed out previously, in part due to staph infection) yet he was still a pretty valuable player and is only set to make $4.4 million (per MLBTR) - I'm actually a bit surprised they are shopping him. He lacks power, but outside of that it's pretty tough to find holes in his game.

I'm also surprised.....I'm a big Prado fan & IMHO his 2010 season was more represenatative of what he can do than 2011....I was never for the Uggla signing because that just didn't make sense with Prado coming off an all-star season at 2B

Braves wouldn't do Hart for Minor so why would they do Hart for Prado?????? Makes no sense

...besides, the Brewers desparatly need Hart's bat in a Fielder-less lineup...

Greinke has also said in the media that he would be interested in playing with the Nationals and would entertain going there when he hits free agency. He said something like that at the beginning of the year it was about a month or two after being traded to the Brewers. So Greinke does have some interest in going to the Nationals and the Nationals are going to have the money to pay Greinke a lot more than what the Brewers are going to be able to afford....
I'd like to see a link on that b/c I don't recall that at all, and comments like that would've resulted in quite the outrage on this site when he has 2 years left on his contract. I'm highly doubtful that this occurred because...

1. Saying that in the media would've been terrible form, and pretty much everyone around here would've remembered it.

2. He refused to alter his NTC to go to the Nationals in the first place.

In any case, you're making a lot of assumptions and most of it's all your conjecture. You're against signing Greinke. That's fine b/c we can all have our opinions. I, for one, sincerely hope they do extend him because you need top-caliber pitching -- and quite good depth of it, to boot -- to have a serious chance to win in the playoffs, not just just a single stud pitcher and some potentially-top-caliber pitching. We've seen for long enough how far a hugely strong but still somewhat imbalanced will get you -- to the edge of hope, essentially -- but it becomes a whole different game with a stable of aces.

And I'd take Jose Reyes as my SS in a heartbeat. Reyes, Greinke, Marcum, Fielder, . . . we've become so conditioned to the small-market, we're-gonna-go-broke mentality even as hard-core fans that it's funny how now not the front office but we, the fans, are more the ones parroting the front office's "company line" from the mid-'90s ("We can't afford the stud players the big markets can," essentially paraphrasing) 'til Mark A. came in & bought the team. This is different ownership which still knows it has to be sensible but has been far more willing to be aggressive for the right kinds of players (Greinke, Marcum, Sabathia, Rodriguez, etc.) than the last 10 years of Selig ownership was willing to (Hammonds, etc.).

“The Nationals are trying to build a winner,” Greinke said, “and if I’m going to go there, I didn’t really want them to trade away the players they were going to build around. That hurts their team.” “Maybe it works out better that the deal [with Washington] didn’t go through,” Greinke said. “In two years I might be a free agent, and then they get to keep the players [who would have been] in the trade. And some of those guys could end up being key players for them.”

Not really saying he will go there but there is interest on Greinke's side to go to the Nationals.

Instead I'd look at that as 1) Greinke being diplomatic since the interview is w/ a Nationals beat writer type, as a result of & evidenced by 2) Greinke being a very thorough thinker about where he's going, and realizing the Nats likely didn't have the talent to be a strong team if some of their best young talent went back to KC in exchange for him.

I really believe Greinke will be staying in MKE. Its a city that fits his personality and his personality fits the city.

Eventhough when it is all said and done that we may have given up more in quality for Marcum, I would have no trouble trading Marcum. I am a big Narveson fan and think Filer or Estrada could be a #5.

I think Greinke's goal was to pitch for a potential playoff team for a couple years and become a FA. Pitching for the Nationals last season likely wasn't going to help him increase his value or win a title. Going to Milwaukee made sense for him. I don't think we'll sign Greinke to a long term deal unless we over pay him. He's got a huge opportunity to increase his value for his next contract. I see Marcum as being the more likely guy we sign this offseason.

I've been pretty quiet here anticipating something happening this offseason . Anyway, putting my two cents worth in , I think the Brewers NEED the Reyes/Fielder signing. Anyone realize that our biggest free agent signings so far have been Randy Wolf/JEff Suppan. When is this going to change? I get the Crew won't be signing Pujols/Sabathia/Texiera/Fielder every single season......but it hasn't happened yet. I also get the finances aspect. I just think this is the offseason to do this . Reyes needs to be a Brewer.

How can you forget Jeffrey Hammonds?

First off, the Greinke quote is just him being PC. It was right after he vetoed a trade, and it was for the Washington Post. He's a smart guy and he just didn't want the Nationals to think he didn't like them as they are a potential suitor for FA because of their payroll. I just think Zack would say that to any team that asked him. He said basically the same thing to the KC reporters during the season this year. Not saying he wouldn't go to either of those teams, I'm just saying he more than likely won't, he just doesn't want to come off badly to them.

As far as the topic goes, I'm getting sick of these dumb *** Miami reporters saying it's done. Even if he does sign with Miami, he won't sign at least until after Thanksgiving, most likely around the Winter Meetings. There's absolutely no incentive for any bigtime FA to sign before then anyways. And it's been reported (by people who are actually credible) that it's nowhere near a done deal.

I was going to respond to a comment that said Greinke was saying something PR based and not speaking his true mind.............but i'll stick to the topic because those who know of the true Zack Greinke would never suggest something like that.

Anyways, I heard a rumor from someone I know that Reyes was at least going to visit Milwaukee. Someone get the man a bratwurst and pronto.

I read somewhere that the Marlin's offer to Reyes was 6 years for $90 million. If that's the case I think the Brewers could have topped that. They offered Fielder $100 for 5 years so I think they could have gone 6 years for $100 million for Reyes I think. But, I'm thinking Furcal is Melvin's #1 target.

Come on Brewers! 5 years 100 million if it comes to that for Reyes you gotta pull the trigger. Anyone know if Reyes camp is looking more at the years or the $/ year. Obviously its always a little bit of both but I originally heard they offered him 3 years which would be absurd for him to take that.

As much as I would like Reyes, I don't think the Brewers can afford to tie up that much money for that long in someone who hasn't been able to stay healthy. I think 5/85 would be my limit and I think they'd have to seriously consider trading Hart/Wolf. And this isn't even taking into account the fact that I think Greinke should be locked up.
This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.
